20/20... England... Crushed... Oops

What a game. Highest score ever. 11.05 an over! Wow. Read and Weep... or Cheer!

Long, long hot summer! C'mon Aussie, C'mon, C'mon!

Other cricket....Like the African Field Cricket perhaps ?

Bungleau 01-09-2007 10:49 AM

Okay... I just read that article, and I *know* I'm completely clueless.

This sentence:

Quote:

Victorian paceman Harwood claimed the prize scalp of Andrew Flintoff caught at square leg then ran out Kevin Pietersen for six.

means.... what? Claimed the scalp... the redskins did that years ago. Caught at square leg? Is it pirate day again?

*shakes head*

If ever I'm in a place where they play cricket, I'm going to have to head there with someone who can explain it to me...

Szass-Tam 01-09-2007 11:18 AM

It's the obscure technical vocabulary that alienates cricket's audience.

Scalp is just another way of saying dismissed, as it shows the victory over an opponent.

The square leg is the place on the field where the ball bowled to Flintoff was caught

Callum 01-09-2007 07:46 PM

And "run out Kevin Pieterson" means that KP was running between the two wickets, and the fielding team managed to get the ball to Harwood, who knocked the bails off the stumps before KP could get close enough. That it was "for six" means that KP had only scored 6 runs previously in the match.

Memnoch 01-10-2007 02:45 AM

Hit and giggle stuff, but good to know that our 2nd string attack can also do the business eh. :D

Target 01-10-2007 11:00 AM

Just wait until 'Silly Point' comes up!!

Yet another great preformace by England
The tri-series will be a disaster and the world cup even worse!! I bet Scotland will put up a better preformance in the opening match of the WC against the Aussie than England will.

Leonis 01-11-2007 12:08 AM

How about "silly mid-off"? or "backward square leg"? :D

I want to see Canada play England now. That would be a fair match up!

I was thinking French Cricket, or Jiminy Cricket!

Oh dear, looks like England are going to loose the first 1 day match...not really a surprise. But loosing KP to that rib injury is going to cost us any chance of winning any match :(

This quote seems to sum it up quite well...
"Clearly the loss of Kevin Pietersen for the rest of the one-day series with a broken rib makes a difficult task close to impossible. Essentially England are a one tactic team – hope Pietersen fires or else."

Actually, twenty20 cricket is where the middle order batsmen really shine. They're accustomed to having less time to do the job.

Target 01-14-2007 10:22 AM

I'm glad it's not just England who get thrashed by Oz :D Mind you I think NZ will still beat us. :(

Felix The Assassin 01-14-2007 11:17 AM

Cricket!! Damn good!
I just love some fried cricket, covered with semi-tart baked apples, lightly frosted, and baked into a funnel cake! Yum, Yum!

Well, we're about to find out. It will be interesting actually. England chasing 206...
If they bat along well...

Target 01-16-2007 05:51 AM

I bet it was a good finish!!! England winning with 1 ball left!! At last England has won a match on this tour!!!

Leonis 01-16-2007 07:28 AM

It was an odd match! I saw the second innings and somehow, despite the circumstances, it seemed a little sluggish and drowsy. It did get more interesting as the runs required and balls left fell into sync...
Flintoff was good to watch though. If he'd got out I reckon they would've lost. Nice game. NZ seriously on the back foot now...

wellard 01-16-2007 08:19 AM

Is Vaughn OK? It would be terrible for him to have to retire.

Target 01-16-2007 11:39 AM

I know, I hope he's OK as well. He's not had the best of luck has he.

Target 01-19-2007 05:00 AM

Todays one day match looks like it's going to be closer than I thought it would be, espically after Englands inngings.

Memnoch 01-19-2007 05:30 AM

The OZ need 25 off 90 to win.

Target 01-19-2007 07:52 AM

And they got it!! Nice to get 6 wickets
I think we can call that a win for England!!

Memnoch 01-19-2007 09:28 AM

Amazing that after that we still won with a bonus point.

Leonis 01-20-2007 12:50 AM

BEACH CRICKET!!!

This is great! I've just been watching the first round of the Tri-Nations beach cricket comp - Australia/England/West Indies.

Legend players playing around Aussie beaches during the summer. It's completely tongue in cheek... The players and Umpire (Dickie Bird!) are mic'd up and can talk with the commentators. Dickie was asking them their opinion before making a few descisions...
Predictably ;) England got knocked out, and the Australia have just won the final against the Windies.

:D

(Aside: I have 1234 posts. Cool)

Wow, New Zealand are attempting a cracker in the latest ODI... After making 218, they've got the Aussies @ 3/17 after 7 overs.

Well, finally we may have a game on our hands. However, the last game showed, there's no need to be worried yet... :D

Target 01-21-2007 05:41 AM

176 for 6, come on NZ!!!!

Ah well... :D Can't win, er, any of 'em... ;) It was a good one!

However, the last two matches against Australia have been close. They could be beaten. Maybe. I find it more exciting watching when it's not a given that we'll win. I enjoyed this.

Target 01-22-2007 05:38 AM

It's that Hussey who seems to turn up and do the damage, esp in the last 2 matches!!

CerebroDragon 01-22-2007 07:52 AM

Woooomaaaaan, I need ya womaaan. I got that feeeling of looove. :D

Sorry, that's just the song by a meteorically rising band called Wolfmother that I sing whenever I see Hussey getting it on! ;) (They are a bit slow with getting together new material but...)

It seems as if Australia is well and truly going to clean up in this series, which is a shame for me, because being rather un-patriotic, I really like to see them pushed to the limits. Whilst there has been moments where its been close, I haven't exactly started biting my nails yet. ;)

New Zealand pride themselves upon their performances in one day games against Australia and usually do that little bit better.
Man, I miss the days of Mark Greatbatch opening their batting and smashing stuff around!

Still, here's to hoping the finals will produce three games and not just two!

Cheers,
CD

Target 01-22-2007 08:58 AM

Well I think Australia should be tested more at the world cup, well at least I hope they will or that will be rather dull!!

Memnoch 01-23-2007 04:24 AM

England making hard work of a small chase against NZ, 4-77 chasing 211, 134 needed from 149. Superman is at the crease - streaky single through the slips cordon gets him off the mark.

Memnoch 01-23-2007 04:45 AM

Joyce, Nixon and Dalrymple will have to somehow come up with 100-odd additional runs between the three of them.

Memnoch 01-23-2007 04:46 AM

Joyce on 41, nearly caught at deep midwicket but the ball bounces short of the fielder.

Leonis 01-23-2007 04:50 AM

Well they did lose another, but are still up on the comparative run race... Flintoff took a big chunk out of the outfield in a fall earlier. Hope it doesn't cause him problems...

At least with these two teams we get a real 'will they won't they' match going on. It's a run a ball required now. Cool.

Leonis 01-23-2007 04:52 AM

Mems you somehow posted thrice while I was writing one...

Leonis 01-23-2007 04:55 AM

Nixon's gone.

Mems, I forget, are you still in Boston June 1-3?

I do have a 12Mbps connection, you know. And another gone, Oram induces an inside edge from Nixon well caught by McCullum. Poms 6-107 and on their knees (again).

Most likely - I graduate in mid-May, and then it depends of where I end up working (if in Boston or elsewhere). I'm hoping to take a month off before I start work. Why, are you going to be around?

You mean it's actually a competitive match? :D
