Due to the debate some members (including myself) are having about Diablo 1 & 2 in the Gen Con. Forum, I've decided to create a related poll.

It is quite clearly NOT an RPG.

Yep. Hack'n'slash. There's no plot except kill everything, get a few special items, and kill some more.

Thank God life isn't like a game of Diablo or I wouldn't be able to see where the f***** I'm goin'!! I'd be tripping over things, getting lost behind buildings, etc! I think that if they're going to do a bird's eye view in these Diablo games, they should have something that can allow you to see where the f*** you're going: Like a Camera angle button!

Ha! no one has put it as rpg. thats because IT ISN'T!!!!!!!!!

Hack'n'slash. C'mon, anybody calling it an RPG, you're just kidding yourselves. It's basically an RTS.

I'm not slamming the game, but it's not an RPG.

No it is not and RPG/FRP. It is a FPS! :D

Really. jsut kill,rest,buy,kill,rest,buy,kill,res,buy,kill,rest ,buy.

OK there is a LOT of havk`n`slash in IWD series too but it is FRP.

Diablo....Maybe in another life...dream on Blizzard. :D

In simple terms, yes. You have to remember that an RPG is one where a person is allowed to take on the role of a character. Besides that and killing nasties, these two games lack practically everything else that makes a good RPG.

According to that definition, doesn't that usually apply to story-driven action games too?
