A distressing question indeed!
Are we nerds?? There are many interesting possibilities to this hurtful question:

by saying it's hurtful, i imply that i might be a nerd. then as a nerd i ask you a question which insults myself and likely some to most of this forum. which is like a nerd asking a lot of other nerds whether we think we are nerds.

Anyway.. look at the poll

Yes! We shall rule with our graphics cards and programming books! :D

No seriously...
Nerd is a bland term for people that probably interact with real life people a great deal less, spend an obcene amount of time with their computers...etc.
I think it's what you do with your time that matters. If it's productive, so what if it's by urself?
It may not be the perfect situation but in my opinion if you are a "good" nerd then you are leagues ahead of 97% (arbitary high value) of the world's population. However if you are a bad nerd you are probably leagues behind only 20% of the world's population.

I think it's 'safe' to be a nerd in certain situations. For example, if I'm at home, on my own, with nothing to do for a day, I might look through a D&D Creature Catalogue, or get out Baldur's Gate and start a game on that. But I draw the line when it starts interfering with other things; social events, school work, or any other important duties. I wouldn't cancel a night out with my friends to go and finish the Nashkel mines, for example.

Well I sure am. Don't know about you all. I may be a geek too, but I may be overestimating there.
