I'm thinking about a solo career but I can't decide the class. I should have both thief and mage skills, right? There's lots of traps and locked chests, I'll need fighter skills but what about cleric? Too bad there is not a cleric/thief/mage multi-class, or maybe I can try to go solo with a sorceror? (or is it a madness) would you like to share your experiences with me? as I heard F/T/M is a little bit boring but C/M is very funny..

Well I know for a fact never to be a wizard slayer because they are just brutal. I am currently doing a solo game where I am a fighter and it is going just jolly. I toughed out the traps and locked chests/doors and I made it through just fine. You don't need to worry about thieves or mages unless you are fighting trolls because otherwise you need acid or fire to PERMANENTLY kill them. Or you could use fire or acid arrows but you need to be good with the bow. In my opinion, use the good old FIGHTER class because he is hardy and tough. Also be a Dwarf. They rock!

im an elven fighter/mage/thief, and soloing him is EXTREMELY fun!!! im gaining levels fast because A) im soloing, and B) im able to pick locks, remove traps, AND scribe scrolls. so im just getting experience every which way i turn. i cast invisibility, then i backstab, run away, repeat. i also have over 1000000 gold, and i did it without cheating. (yes i cheesed, but didnt cheap)i got it at the start of chapter two, so i was running around with awesome items right of the get go. it takes a bit to level them up, but it is worth it. with no experience cap, i will be a beast in TOB!!!

i also like to play a sorceror, barbarian, berserker, human fighter dualed to a cleric at level nine, and a human berserker dualed to a druid at level 12.

I would suggest to play as cleric or mage, as I can't imagine to walk through the game without using magic. This must be so boring.
Start out as a fighter (Kensai maybe) and dual to mage or cleric immediately. This makes you able to use more weapons and armor and to spend more weapon slots (e.g. ++++++ on the Qstaff)

"Would you take a look at these beauties? You can't just get Full Plate Mail armour like these babies anywhere, so how much are you willing to buy each for? 5100 gold pieces? Very well, we have a deal. HEY! CHECK IT OUT! IT'S WAUKEEN OVER THERE! Oops, my mistake, it was just Rose with some glowing makeup, now where was I? Ah yes, I just sold you some stuff, and bless me for being an idiot, I forgot about these extra Full Plate Mail armour at the bottom of my bag. Would you take a look at these beauties? You- ... ..."

F/T/M sounds cool but I'll miss those clerical spells. If I did so can I have both 3 strongholds?? If I play a C/M, and a ranged attack based game is it possible?

After playing through all of the BG series, IWD, and Torment several times each, I decided to finally try playing SOA solo for the first time last week. All I can say is that the 'fever' is back in a big way!!! Even though I've done every quest in the game several times with a party of 5 or 6, there is nothing like doing it solo!

For my first solo char, i created a Kensai, and dualled over to Mage at level 12. Now, I'm in Chap 3, currently working for Bodhi. My char is 12/12, so I'm basically a Mage with tons of HPs. This makes some of the battles fairly challenging, but what soloing does is make you think more about all of the abilities that you have, and how you will face each encounter. I had never used the Cloak of the Sewers before, but boy is it useful now to be able to fight like a troll. I had never used 'Protection from Normal Weapons' either-why would a mage ever need that in a party as the fighters are the ones up front copping all the damage? Well, now that I'm the ONLY one doing the fighting, Prot from Normal Weapons is a HUGE help!! And these are just the first few things I've learned....

As far as thief skills, I don't miss them at all. I can either bash open (Belt of Hill Giant STR) or 'Knock' open locks. Remove Traps-who cares about the damage when youve got 157 HPs?? Pickpocket-well that might be nice for a couple of items, but is really quite useless in BGII. Set Traps-definitely a plus for a solo char, but I'd rather have a char that can kick their butts or use high-level magic to win battles, it's more fun anyway than simply setting lots of traps and letting them do the damage.

If you use a multi-classed char (like an F/M/T), you will be severely limiting the max level that you can achieve under the exp cap (3mill or 8mill if you have TOB), and thus you will not get the most out of your mage spells or TOB abilities (GWW, Summon Deva, etc)

On my next solo, I will use a Sorceror, as they can get incredbily powerful with high level spells such as Project Image, Simulacrum, Wish, Time Stop, and Improved Alacrity-most battles are over before they can even start!!

Currently playing through as a solo Monk, up to level 24 and I still haven't finished all the quests in chapter 1. Highlight so far was killing Firkraag with one punch, the low-point was having to sell Carsomyr, cos my Monk can't use two-handed weapons.

My only stumbling block is the Chromatic Demon in Watcher's Keep, I cannot kill that damn' thing for love nor money....I'll try again later. Any tips would be gratefully recieved.
