They get near me. I die instantly. No problem.

Ive looked through this forum in the search function and had no luck... well some.

Merlins shield - does absolutely nothing. I die in the exact same amount of time. The merlins shielded character seems to gain no benefit.

For a while the four of them were lurking outside the town area with some swamp mucks in front of them. So, I tried the cast firestrike then enter the town the exit the town and cast it again cheapness.

But the mantraps somehow caught on!!! I dont see this written anywhere, but they actually turned around after taking some damage and went back to their orignal place near the burned out building. It is perhaps that it became dark.

Anyhow I guess my next thing is to try and run to the moat and try that method. All my guys are around level 10. The only other way I can think is that my guys are just to low level and I should try to break into the dungeons beyond them and come back to kill them after Ive leveled up.

u can do that, but how many of ur characters can cast any fire spells? if u have at least 2 or 3 characters who can, then i advice u to run towards the moat and try and avoid the mantraps along the way (as in, take 2nd paths if the mantraps are blocking the 1st path, and dun run into unknown areas yet, u do not know wat lurks in the darkness... ). once u reach the moat, run towards the side of the castle and now, juz cast ur fire spells to ur hearts content, juz remember to replenish ur mana when it runs out! good luck!!!

HA kilt 3 of them.

The fourth one is almost psychic, I cant seem to hunt him down. Ive been trying to hunt him down from a distance but hes nowhere to be found... until Im fighting something and he sneaks up and kills me.

Hi stamar!

You're very lucky that the Mantraps went back to their original position. Usually when they follow you to the gate (THEY WILL HUNT YOU DOWN) you're really in a bad position. Glad to hear that you managed to take out 3.

As for the last one - is he killing you in "roughly" the same area each time or a variety of areas? I'm not really sure what the best way to handle this would be but if I were in such a situation this is what I would try:

When a random encounter with other monsters happens, I would not fight where I run into the new/other monsters. Instead I would try to either avoid them or draw them to another area where I will have some protection from sneak attacks from the Mantrap. You are far more likely to handle the damage from the other monsters than you are from the Mantrap so always make the Mantrap your first priority. Mantraps seem to like the areas from the town to the castle and it is much easier to kill them if you're at the castle or in some of the tricky bits of the wood where you can get through but the Mantrap cannot.

Hope that will help!!

[edit] Forgot to add... your comments about no problems with mantraps made me laugh out loud. A variation on the old "I have no drinking problem" joke, and just as valid :D

Flamedrop has always been my favorite spell against mantraps. It's cheap, effective, and lasts for a while. While they're in it, they can't attack you, so everyone else can fire arrows and cast spells against 'em, and the sun magic users can just replenish the flamedrops. Heck, you can even just flamedrop 'em, sit back, and watch the barbecue.

'Course, this is also one of the times when I find a use for all those firebomb potions, too...

Ditto what Wyvern said, too. Take salads out first, because other things will just distract you.

And don't worry about trying to find the salad. If you stay in one place, preferably with your back to a jungle wall, it will hunt you down... guaranteed...

Oh ya, the difference was the spell burning haze, and then catching them at maximum distance. They just stand there and die.

Only seems fair cause they cast a cant miss do 800 damage spell on you if they catch you.

PS the fourth one I finally found at the dragon spire. Right next to torin. He ran all the way up there. Sure feels good exterminating those bastards.

Oh but they can miss with their spells. ;) They´re not as accurate as those dang serpent priests who manage to poison you throught solid stone walls.

Oh yeah... around the corner... down the hallway... through the locked door... past the flight of stairs... nothing but poison.

Life in the Gael Serran, for sure.

I seem just to get poisoned, diseased and massacred even if I run about 20 feet away from their poison-clouds, which seem to still hurt you when they haven't even reached you :S. I managed to kill all four of them by using my wizard's Flamedrop and Firestrike spells - the flamedrop only paralyzes the Amazoni Mantraps for around 3-4 seconds...enough time to open the spellbook and get to the Firestrike spell . It's a pity there isn't a quick slot feature like in Neverwinter Nights, where you can even quickly equip different weapons or items :( .
