Does it worth it joining the bandits? I finished it twich killing them and now I decided to join them just to see what happens (Drizz says that this is the most profitable way...... by the way both times I managed to steal his +3 sword, anybody stole the defender?)

Lord Brass 09-11-2002 02:37 PM

AFAIK its a plot device really. You do find out where they are if you join, and can have some laughs around the camp. Either way you need to complete this section before you can move on.

As for Drizzt, there's quite a few posts on how to thrash him without triggering his response. Have a look around, that way you can get both swords and his armour.

I have to again apologize for my ignorance but I have always assumed that all of this talk about killing Drizzt was for something in BG2 am I to understand that you can kill him in BG1/TOSC when he talks to you about the gnolls or the gibberings or whatever that he wants your help killing?

Lord Brass 09-11-2002 06:56 PM

The trick is to find him without triggering his response i.e. running up to you and asking for your help with killing Gnolls that he has absolutely no problem with hanlding himself. If you read any of the previous posts on the topic, you'll see some of the tactics that can be successfully utilised to finish 'im off and leg it with the loot!

You can still provoke him to fight you after triggering his response. Just say yes you will help him than move away and pepper him with arrows. A wand of summoning is nice to have to. He still gets ticked off at you.

Unlike previous tactics this places you very close to him and you will use your entire wand of summoning just to keep him off you(at level 4). If he does go for one of your guys run. Has anyone ever not been shattered into a million pieces by one of his hits?

Lord Brass 09-11-2002 07:44 PM

That is true, but no, I've never had a ruck with him which didn't end up in requiring a Wish spell or Resurrection at least to get my character back! That guy is tough, and at the mid levels it can be too easy to throw away a wand as useful as that on some items you may or may not use. You can't even buy another Wand of Summoning until you get into Baldur's I think.

Don't need to. Just move up onto the island north of him with all but one of your characters, talk to him and have that character run away as all the others spray him with arrows. He'll try to run up to you and stop at the water...

U should have put spoiler!! what the hell do u mean join the bandits, and whoes this Drizzt dude!1

For the bandits portion of the game you have the option to either join the bandits (to the NE of the Friendly Arm) and infiltrate them from the inside. Or you can just walk up to their camp and start beating people like they stole something. After all they probably did cause they ARE bandits. I'm not sure if you get more XP for joining them because to be honest I never have being the Anti-Bandit guy that I am.

As far as Drizzt goes he is a dark elf master swordsman who takes the term tank to a new level. He is literally a one elf wrecking crew. As to how to kill him I can not say because I have never tried being a big fan of his since I read R.A.Salvatore's books on him. However, being the XP hound that I am I may just give it a try one of these days.

OK. Let's see. I will post some straight questions as I didn't find the answers looking for:
If I join the bandits:
1) Does anything different happen except that you take the documents without killing the whole camp?
2) Do you kill them anyway before you are able to go to Baldur's Gate?
3) Is anything different in Baldur's Gate?

As for Drizzt, I didn't want to kill him (as I'm an RPG fun and a very experienced DM, DMing over 15 years) I just decided to pickpocket him as it does not feel right to me to kill him. The only valid item could pickpocket was the +3 sword. then I got the message, target has no valid items!
