I've never made it through a solo game, and I'd really like to. Anybody have any ideas on what class would be good for me?

Just a bit on my playing style:

I like warrior-types. If a character doesn't have a chance in melee, I'm really not into him. I've been getting into stealth also. I was soloing a Ranger for a while there, and the stealth really helped, but this isn't a requirement for me.

Oh yeah: I have ToB installed, and I don't have any cheats or mods. I want to start the character in SoA.

You may want to try a fighter/cleric. You will have good fighting skills and access to healing, as well as some offensive spells and disabling spells.

I was thinking about that, L. I was also thinking of maybe going with a Berserker/Cleric dual, for the immunities from the Rage.

Sorcerer is the easiest class to solo - try one and you might surprise yourself and give up on the melee/warrior types.

However, I'll admit that I didn't take my solo sorcerer all the way through. I gave up in boredom when it became too easy for too long. Prehaps I should try soloing a jester.

Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger

It stealths, it has Sanctuary, it can heal, you get two free Two Weapon Style proficiencies, it definitely can melee, etc...

Would you... like to know more? ;)

One of the most enjoyable solo's i ever did was a Elven Swashbuckler. It basically describes what you said in your first post about likeing melee and stealth. Two weapon fighting with katana's or maybe longswords would probably work out well. In my solo I used hammers.

I really was leaning towards a berserker/cleric or cleric/ranger multiclass.

I was also thinking about the classic power solo: the kensai/mage. I was wondering, though, what makes a kensai/mage better than a berserker/mage?

</font>[/QUOTE]I'd like to second this. I've never taken this baby through the whole game, but I've beaten IWD with it and solo'd BG1. Truly a powerful class.

Something that majorly takes away from the Kensai's benefits is the armor restriction. Yes, you get slashy power, but you can't wear plate mail. But, hey! The mage can't wear plate mail, either! So you throw on the Robe of Vecna and go to town. The berserker, however, can wear armor... so that's an aspect of the class that's just going to waste, as it were.

Exactly as Illumina said. With the Kensai, you actually end up with better armor class (due to random bonuses), plus better THAC0 and such (again, due to Kensai bonuses). With the Berserker, you get the rage, but wearing armor is kind of silly, since it means your character can no longer cast spells.
