Re: the illithid layer in temple district
Has this been expanded upon in unfinished busiess, is it meant to lead on to a quest? Some other questions: Does having all of balduran's equipment lead to anything special happening? Is there a katana in the game other than CF that has special abilities, i want one or my dual weilding fighter/theif, as at the moment all i have is a +2 katana. If not, what should i use, bearing in mind that hammers, axes, flails and clubs are in use by my other two melée characters? I was thinking equalizer when i get out of the underdark. Im at the start of chapter 3 now, so im looking for a short and long term solution. [ 12-12-2004, 11:54 AM: Message edited by: Aragorn1 ] |
Dak'kon's Zerth blade is a katana as well. Check Gamebanshee's Baldur's Gate 2 section for more information on weapons!

Thanks, i'll check the site, i forgot about DZ, i had considered it but i didn't think it was worth it as im not a mage.

Indeed, it's a weapon more suitable for a Kensai/Mage character than anything else ;)

I considered that combo, but couldn't fit it in with the rest of my party.

Unfinished Business tries to stick to things that are truly unfinished, i.e. started, or planned, but never fully implemented in the game. Minsc was supposed to have a quest where Boo got kidnapped, but they didn't have time to put this into the final version before it was shipped out. There never was any plan to integrate the Athkatla Illithid lair into any larger plot (or, if there was, icelus and the others have been unable to find it), so messing with it would fall under the aegis of some other mod, not Unfinished Business. (True, the Kalah Wish quest is almost entirely made up, but Kalah does at least make a definite reference to it in the original game.)
Good Katanas are few and far between, and sadly CF is the only really useful one, so if you want a Katana that's capable of hitting the enemies in the game that really need hitting, you're forced to use one of the cheesiest weapons in the game, and that's saying something. The hierarchy of the Katanas in SoA goes: Celestial Fury > Dak'kon's > Corthala Family Blade > Malakar > everything else. ToB adds Hindo's Doom, which is between CF and Dak'kon's in terms of usefulness. [ 12-13-2004, 12:47 AM: Message edited by: SixOfSpades ] |
SixOfSpades, the Illithid lair in the Temple district *seems* to be a part of some sort of unfinished plot. The reason that I say this is that IIRC you find a note in that lair that refers to "The Hidden One". And IIRC, The Hidden One is the mindflayer who's disguised as a human that you talk to underneath the Copper Coronet during the Jan Jansen sub-quest.
Maybe there really wasn't any further story intended here, but that "Hidden One" connection really *screams* "unfinished story". |
There is to our knowledge nothing further to do with the Illithid plot. It's true a quest could be made out of it but there is nothing in the game to suggest anything more was actually planned; so I don't think we'll be adding anything.
And yeh, Kalah is sort of an exception. ;) As for Balduran, no, nothing happens if you have all of his stuff. |
So far, I've run into a couple of bugs myself from Unfinished Business.
The first being the Illithium quest. If you choose to speak to the ore merchants source, he now tells you that his brother is at the mine but hasn't been heard from in quite some time and asks the PC to investigate. I did this and got ZILCH as far as the pure illithium goes. NEITHER brother will speak to me and neither of them mentions the house in the Bridge District I am supposed to go to next. Don't know if I chose the wrong dialogue options or if it is a true bug. If anybody knows the proper dialogue needed, it would be helpful to know for future reference. The Pai'Nai Quest. I have completed TWO major quests (Umar Hills/Temple Ruins and Unseeing Eye Cult)since first speaking to Pai'Nai and offering to find this "horrible weapon" she mentioned - and there STILL aren't any workers ANYWHERE in the sewers. And I am also STILL waiting for Kuriosan to show up and ask for Celestial Fury. I know this isn't an "Unfinished Business" quest, but it has been at least one or two weeks since I got CF - and Kurio usually shows up much sooner than that. Those are the only problems I've encountered so far. The Kalah quest worked perfectly. Since I'm playing solo, I won't be getting the Minsc/Boo quest. |
