Re: Art Requests
Hey Manikus I noticed you referred to yourself as Project Administrator. Do you mean of the City Proj or of DC development? I just read somewhere else that the only active developer, Paul, does not even use DC and is not even into AD&D. So that pretty much leaves you as DC Community leader by default doesn't it? If you had to pick a title for yourself what would it be?
Just curious because 1. I've just been messing around with ranks, groups, and special badge like images for ranks and groups for use on my Retro Games proj forums. 2. Because while doing so I accidentally deleted a few of my member's avatars when I applied some new special group graphics, yep sorry dude - your cool transformer's avatar is no more...:(. I thought maybe I could replace the lost avatars with backups using special single member "groups" for each member [since I only have a handful of members anyway - lol] and assigning your old avatar to the new group created just for your account. See I can't give you your old avatar back the normal way as you can. I can only assign one to you by putting you in a special user group. Had I known of this before I wouldn't have used the group avatar feature! Now I know that what I should have used was the rank avatar feature to add a special graphics beneath already existing avatars. I made one for moderators and one for official members. |
Re: Art Requests
The title I prefer is 'Greater Power' (at least related to DC). Seiously though, I am the Project Administrator/Chief Cheerleader for Dungeon Craft and have been since sometime between version .912 and .913 (closer to .913 I think).
Nine or ten years ago, I could have had literally dozens of AD&D enthusiasts who could code MFCs lined up just to get a chance at working on DC. :) But, now there are many "cooler" games than the old Gold Box style and maybe two coders in the whole world who would willingly touch MFCs :D (I don't mean this as a dig at CocoaSpud - he didn't need to recruit coders b/c he himself was the head coder and very prodigious; I just mean it as a statement of where the development community lies.) Anyways, I digress. |
Re: Art Requests
It does seem a shame that there seems to be a shortage of AD&D enthusiasts who also happen to be great coders these days :D (The new generation has only heard of "D&D" anyway...)
|
Re: Art Requests
There are actually a lot of AD&D enthusiasts that are coders, they just don't use MFCs. :( I've had communications with over a dozen coders over the last couple of years who are interested in DC until they hear about the MFCs. Then, almost to a one, they slip quietly into the night.
Gold Box games are hip right now. There are individuals and small groups all over the internet that are remaking the various games (this has even come up on the FRUA and DC Yahoo lists)... :ninjas: |
Re: Art Requests
Really? Very interesting. While you may rest assured that I'm sticking around for DC, I'd love it if someone made a version of Pool of Radiance I could actually finish.
No fear of walking away from DC. The more gold box style games, the better! |
Re: Art Requests
Someone on the FRUA list has mentioned doing a remake of Pool of Radiance for FRUA.
It seems really hard for one person to do, though. That's why I decided to do a sequel to Secret of the Silver Blades. :) |
Re: Art Requests
How's that coming along, anyway? :D
I do like arctic landscapes and such... Also, Arcalian, why can't you finish Pool of Radiance? |
Re: Art Requests
At the moment, nothing of my own is coming along. :( But, I have been able to re-establish a CVS link and fixed some bugs for DC. :) I've been spell testing with the help of Peter Deal, as well. :D:D:D

Re: Art Requests
Manikus, ahhh, so they're not really revamping PoR then. Because to use FRUA you still need DOS box or whatever it is.
Uatu, I never got past the textile mill, Sokol keep, or the wilderness areas. Never even got to Yarash the Sorcerer. Azure Bonds, Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness, on the other hand, were fun times. The Krynn trilogy was likewise a blast. |
Re: Art Requests
Well they are revamping it, just not to much newer tech. :)
I run FRUA on my XP Pro box, and I've never needed DosBox. I use the UAShell program, which is needed to apply the hacks, and nothing more. If you're running Vista though, I suppose it's quite different. :) |
Re: Art Requests
Mebbe someday I would re-do PoR. It is hard to pick a favorite goldbox game, but it is definately in the top 9 ;), mebbe even top 3. There were things they did in PoR that they cut out of future GB games, like the training hall had a single character "mirror match" combat for 1 PC to engage an NPC named Rolf who had the same exact abilities, the ability to pick your own portrait (thankfully DC does this, now we need a huge selection of portraits), they had a person on a horse for a map icon (that turned to face direction you moved), PoR had the only Animate Dead spell (and I've heard but don't know if you could use it on the final boss after he dies), Random lairs on overland map (enter a dungeon once and clean it out or forever forget about it), and IIRC you can find a sword with an alignment (PCs can be ANY alignment, cannot remember if future GB games allowed this) and if you try to equip it with someone not matching it would hurt them.

Re: Art Requests
To pull up an old thread and get it back on it's original topic; I would like to make a request, Uatu. :)
I would like several icons. Some of them would be recolors of others. unicorn horse- dun, black and brown charger- brown, zebra colored but red instead of white, red with black tail and mane people- warrior in black with silver trim wearing a black cloak and holding a scimitar, ranger all in green, warrior missing right hand and half of fore-arm, stocky warrior with no weapons and black hair, red-haired man without weapons (can look mage-like but should be wearing pants), red-haired female mage, red-haired warrior in full plate (no helmet), regal king with long black hair, hunchbacked man just a tad taller than a dwarf, red-haired thief, grizzled veteran warrior balding with grey beard people on horseback- black and silver figure on dun, green ranger on red/black zebra charger, one armed man on red with black hair, red-haired thief on black, grizzled warrior on brown |
Re: Art Requests
Hmm - a bunch of equids! :D But what is a charger? Sort of a brown-red zebra (instead of black-white)?
But that is a lot of specific people requests (a new mod in development perhaps? :D ) - perhaps I can do a few, but I don't think all of them... |
Re: Art Requests
A charger is a large male horse, typically used as a warhorse. :)
When I started that post, I was only going to ask for a unicorn. :D I would really like the unicorn, and all the rest are not so big of a deal. I would also like an icon of a manticore. :D |
Re: Art Requests
I like unicorns, so that one is a good possibility :) (Plus, I can erase the horn and do a palette swap for a nearly-free horse!)
A manticore would be fun to do, too... |
Re: Art Requests
Fun is good. :D:D:D
|
Re: Art Requests
Maybe I can even get a nightmare for free... (Am I asking for too much?) :D
|
Re: Art Requests
I can do some icons too. I remember that I said the same concerning some other requests before ( :( ), BUT the people icons you asked for sound interesting, and I could relatively easily change some of my own icons into those (removing the marten/tiger noses and tails, adding some humanoid faces, et voila!). Since I am not going to use the "normal" combat anyway in the respective design, it would be a good oportunity to use stuff that otherwise would be rejected... :)
Concerning icons, the styles of Uatu and me are quite well fitting, so it should not be a aesthetical problem here. (Although Uatu's icons are somewhat more detailled, I admit... :( ) |
Re: Art Requests
Quote:
"trim": something like "decorative border"? "warrior missing right hand and half of fore-arm" and "one armed man on red with black hair": same person here? Or in general: people on horsebacks are all the same as described above? "stocky": means something like "stout", "sturdy"? "red-haired female mage": chubby? slender? "regal": "majestic", I assume? |
Re: Art Requests
Quote:
You are correct on all accounts, the one armed man is the same person in both cases and the red-haired female mage should be thin. Hmm, I guess I'll start planning the portraits for these folks. :D |
Re: Art Requests
Yep, I would have asked next if you also need portraits.
|
Re: Art Requests
I would love portraits of all of the above mentioned requests. :)
All of the human/humanoid characters mentioned above need two portraits for the game- one needs to look like they are on a playing card/tarot card and the other would be a normal portrait. For the card portrait, the card could be by itself, or in someone's hand, or on a table, etc. :D |
Re: Art Requests
Well, I made a dun horse variant (grullo), because I rather like the color :) Are you using horses singly in your mod or only as mounts? (If the latter, I suppose you won't be able to use this in the mod...)
I did manage to fit it in a smaller 2 x 1 box... the horse is about 13 hands tall, which is somewhat smaller than a riding or war horse might be, though... |
Re: Art Requests
All of the horses are mounts, but have enough charter that there may be times when they appear without their rider. :D
|
Re: Art Requests
Sorry, not a horse, but I did an icon of Ogremoch, everyone's favorite doughboy, er, Elemental Prince of Evil...
|
Re: Art Requests
I drew a brown bear small pic today :D I think someone asked for a brown bear...
Besides, there are also a whole bunch of other updates: Icons: Ssendam (Slaad Lord) - prime material plane form Smoke Para-elemental Planetar Human girl Brown Bear recolor (to match the small pic) Small Pics: Human girl (to go with above icon) Combat Walls: Medieval Walls (to go with my only usable wall :D ) Also, a bonus (not sure where to link it): http://two.xthost.info/uatu/dungeoncraft/Edcdi.png |
Re: Art Requests
Is it my birthday already? :D:D:D
I'm so excited about the brown bear pic as now that means I have almost all the art for the long talked about Prohovost project. :) As always, Uatu, everything looks great. I'm especially happy with the outer planes icons. :ninjas: Also, I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I really appreciate that you do small pics to go with your icons and vice versa. That's super cool. :) |
Re: Art Requests
Well, in the end, the art is several times more useful if they come in sets :) So, I do try to make these, but the main problem is that I get rather drained from just doing one (usuall icons), and don't feel like drawing the same thing again, at least for a while... :(
As an aside, icons can be slightly modified to make new icons, but doing the same thing to small pics gives a rather strong "cheapo" feel... I remember some professional games by Japanese makers who did this... Anyway, looking forward to more news about Prohovost! :D I think you needed the dire wolf for that one, too, and I should have that one ready soon as well (about 50% or so done, I guess - hoped to have it done today, but ah well). I will be away next week in Hong Kong, so it may take a week longer than I expected! :( |
Re: Art Requests
Have fun in Hong Kong. :)
Take all the time you need...it will still be a while before I finish the Prohovost design. |
