I don't shave because anyone wants me to, I shave my legs because I want to! Having said that, I won't bother if I'm wearing jeans and unlikely to be taking them off in company ;)
But when wearing a skirt and nylons, you pretty much have to shave your legs or all the hairs poke through the stockings - ugh, not a pretty sight! It doesn't make me feel in the least bit attractive.

And onto the male hairy back - well I don't mind. My bloke is hairy as a gorilla from the neck down, it's like cuddling a big teddy bear, nothing wrong with that Especially if it's cold outside!

Tal, you realize that the fat hairy guy in a small speedo just ruined my appetite for the next several hours.

BTW, about the women can stand more pain than guys thing... I am not one of those women-hating freaks but definitely not one of those feminist freaks. But I hate it when women (there has been the odd guy too, but they are rare and I usually wonder about them) make up things about how women are better at this and that when there is really no proof at all. Enduring pain depends on the person, not his or her sex. You can't say one sex stands pain better unless you do a huge survey, and the government would definitely put their foot down on a torture test. The only real proof you could have is fights, but in the rare case that a woman gets in a fight it doesn't last as long anyway. I haven't seen many catfights but the ones I have are much shorter, and hurt the girls less. Now, I might get bombarded by feminists, but nothing I said was insulting. The odd thing is, a girl can say "GIRLS ARE FASTER AND STRONGER THAN GUYS!" and nobody will say a word. However, if a guy says "Guys are faster and stronger than girls!" Which is probably true, just look at the times and records in the Olympics- then he will be viciously attacked and called sexist. Just my two cents. Now might be a good time to hide under a table, I think...

Sheeeeesh, it was a *joke* :D
I thought putting the smileys in would give an indication.....
Besides, the average women DOES have a period each month which often involves pain and some of them give birth to children so GENERALLY SPEAKING and by no means true of everybody etc etc etc, women are quite used to pain in daily life.

Ummm well... de gustibus non disputandum est ;)

But Epona... this is the second time I hear you mention skirts!! Whoa, I thought you hated the things! :D
But you're right - I never wear trousers, always skirts and dresses, so smooth legs are pretty much obligatory ;)
And yeah, I agree that most women probably shave because THEY want to, not their boyfriends/husbands. But I do wonder about the societal influence on it all... I mean not shaving is almost like a taboo in some circles, which I find a bit repressive.

Anyway, for the person who wondered about the history of this (can't remember who it was). I did read the other day about Egyptian women in the time of the Pharaos and Greek and Roman women of antiquity using several methods to remove body hair. So it must be a longstanding tradition. Also, I seem to recall Islamic people remove body hair.. not sure about that one though, if it's really widespread or not.

Yes, that's true. Even many Islamic men remove it in, ahem, certain places.

I know that, I wasn't complaining about your post. I was complaining about the fact that girls can say that they are better than guys at all sorts of things, but if a guy says guys are better than girls than they start screaming SEXIST! all over the place. One of my pet peeves... ;)
