After reading the numerous arguments and opinions heretofore, I find myself in agreement with Dragonshadow.
A few reasons for my decision.. 1. I have never attacked a kobald without provocation. 2. I have yet to meet ANY adventurer of ANY race that hasn't been attacked (without provocation I might add) by a kobald or group thereof. 3. Out of the hundreds if not thousands of kobalds I myself have encountered, there has been one and ONLY one, that has not attacked. 4. Judging from my own travels, kobalds seem to be among the more populous races of faerun. And finally.. 5. Regardless of motive, any attack resulting in death that is NOT self defense driven is murder. Even in our own fine civilization this carries heavy consequences, and the instigator is nearly always hunted down. Why should this be any different for kobalds? So, my friends, I will handle it thusly.. If a kobald shows decency and does not attack me on sight... He/She will be allowed to live, and walk away unscathed. For those that do attack, and those that are truly evil in nature... I will PERSONALLY see their heads on pikes. As a side note Dragonshadow.. If such a grand creature as a bronze dragon can stomach the company of a half-elf such as myself, I would be honored to hunt by your side. [ 08-03-2003, 07:14 PM: Message edited by: Senior Frog ] |
Also, if you look at it, A kobold Village is very similar to a human city, which I'll point out.
1. Both the village and the city have some sort of leader, corrupt or not. 2. The city and village both have a militia/warriors ready for defence 3. Usually the human city and village has a magical authority in it, whether it be Cowled Wizards in Athkatla, or a shaman in a kobold village. 4. Both the village and City have children, women and elders 5. If neighboring city is raided by orcs or some other nation, the city will send an army/help to recover the city or send adventurers for revenge. The same is of the Kobold village, which would send some help to a neighboring Kobold Village. 6. Both the Human city and Kobold village send adventurers for various reasons, whether vengence, greed or other things. 7. When studying the language the language that Kobolds speak, I have found, with some help, that Kobolds typically speak draconic. 8. The average human citizen usually don't care what happens outside of the city so long it doesn't mess up trade, and thus are extremely gullible and predjudice. The same is basically true of Kobolds, but more of a Nievete, plus that they are easy to push around. There are many others I could think of, but that is not needed. Throughout this meeting, some have expressed their hatred of kobolds because they have been used by evil wizards, which would have killed them and thus pressured them into service. But if you look at the Clerics and Paladins of the human city, they basically tell the citizens what is good, what is bad, how to act and how to think. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that if Drizzt the drow entered the average city by himself and didn't announce himself, the citizens would have him tied to a stake ready to barbeque. As to the vote, I say yeah to introducing them to human society. I also say that I will defend myself if attacked, but I am not going to intentionally find a kobold village where they are most likely to attack based upon past incidents. |

Also, referring to an above comment...
I highly doubt that kobalds speak draconic. I'll defer to Dragonshadow on this point, but I have never once heard a dragon "yip." |
Well I must say that I'm not inclined to finding a kobold village and burning it to the ground, but when I meet a party of kobolds, and only one tries to raise his bow -he is a toast!

I heard it from a reliable source... It may not be perfect draconic but I'm sure a dragon could understand them... and if that doesn't work, write "We come In peace, unless you attack us" in draconic in large letters.
(The players handbook, go to skills, speak language and in the table, of languages, it has a column of typical speakers, which says that a typical speaker of draconic is Dragons, Lizardfolk, troglodytes and the yipping Kobolds.) |
Giving me an even better reason to hunt with DS.
She can translate as I put their heads on pikes and she EATS the rest. :D |

Ah i yust LOVE this place. And personal im whit Sythe LOVE the kobolds theyr like humans in many ways.

Dear Sir.
As I mentioned before, I will be hunting only those kobalds who either attack first without provocation, or are truly evil. Those that do or are not, will simply walk away unscathed. In my eyes, this is hardly barbaric. As a side note, there is very little profit to be made by kobalds. It's hard for them to steal when you can smell them blocks away. |
Hey, whats better, hired labor or stinky kobolds who will work for free to stay alive?
|
Just to remind everyone, the thread shouldn't exceed 300 posts in size. We'll have to start a third one to continue the debate after that.
Oh, and on the languages, kobolds yip, growl and, at least in some cases, speak common and/or draconic. Proof that they can learn if they put their minds to it, but you'd wonder who taught them? [ 08-05-2003, 02:23 PM: Message edited by: Legolas ] |
yes, but maybe instead of trying to teach the Kobolds Draconic or common, we could learn kobold, afterall, some people know goblin so why not kobold?
|
Interesting thought, but given present kobald attitudes..
If it yips, I'm not taking the time to find out what it is. I'm introducing it to my friend the pike. |
true, but they would have developed these attitudes had humans not impeded upon their lands, provoking attacks on both sides numerous times.

Wonder if we could do the same for the Kobolds... Nevermind, arrows of detonation at the ready! |
Why can't we exceed over 300?

I really don't know, some unknown rule. I think the last one of this kobold stuff was 301... BTW, do kobolds boil if left in the sun? if so, Senior Frog, send them all over here. DS |
I'll be sending some your way soon DS.
Just as soon as I get done feeding their arrows back to them. Don't worry, I'm not sticking important parts (even for kobalds) so they'll still wiggle when you introduce them to your version of the sun. :D |
Woe is us, this thread has died,
has gone to bed, Like I wish the SUN WOULD!!!! Are we going to satrt no. 3 or what? Cheers for the kobbies Mr. Frog. |

Fine, I'll bake them then.
The water'll evaporate. |
Seinor Frog and Dragonshadow do you both really mean to do these things on these kobolds?
If so then can you answer this question? What makes you diffrent from demons of torturing their prisoners. |

First off, who said anything about torture?
Having your head taken off isn't a slow way to go. Secondly, as I mentioned earlier, ONLY those who attack or are inherently evil will be piked. Those who choose to walk away are free to do so. As for DS's eating habits, since I've already piked them, I fail to see how it's any different than roasting a rabbit. :D |
So even if they don't attack, but were raised evily, you'll still kill them, even if they have no plans for conquest and won't bother you at all? Wouldn't it be better to kill their parents for raising their kid in an evil way than kill just because they are of a particular alignment?
|
Evil is as evil does. :\
Besides, what evil person, knowing they are evil, doesn't do something evil? I believe the same could apply to kobolds. Imagine a paladin *not* going out into the world to smite evil. It's just not.....paladin like. |

hasn't this tread gone on a bit? We are still no nearewr the truth: is Elvis really dead? Eeh, sorry, wrong thread. I mean, are kobold hugable or not? |
You want to hug your food have at DS. ;)
I'll just roast a rabbit if you have a few flames to spare. Wiping out evil kobalds is going to take a while and a man gets hungry doing that kind of work. |
