I wasn't surprised by the Republican victories, because the Democrats didn't have a cohesive national strategy. Al Gore (you know he has to be thinking of running in 2004) was very wise to be invisible during this whole process, even though he is the de facto leader of the Democrats. Another immediate effect of the victory: Richard Gephardt is going to resign as minority leader in the House.
Given the decision today by the Fed to lower their interest rate to 1.25% means that you'll most likely see another round of tax cuts next year, especially for businesses. Also, Bush will probably try to open up the Alaskan reserves for more exploration, too. (or did he already do that?)
Unless Bush really screws up or the Democrats get it together now, Bush will earn a reelection in 2004.
