Well, mine isn't as clever as yours, but I'll post a couple...

Plus, you could dig up my thread titled "Feeling Blueish". That one packed quite a whallop! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Give me a minute to find some to post. Must 'sift'. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

This one's called The Mirage...

Wandering
through the scorching desert
Parched, dying.
Then, in the distance, a shimmer!
Light reflecting off cool water.

Struggling
to make it to the water
Exhausted, hurting.

Finally
reaching out to find it was only
A mirage!

Continuing
somehow to go on.
Wanting only for the torture to end.

Are you the end of my struggle?
Are you my oasis in this desert of lonliness?
Or will you, too, vanish
when I reach out for you?

Thank you! Your opinion means a lot to me.

I also have my 'darker side' too...Understand, this was written after reading three very intense horror novels. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

It floats along on mist and fog.
Here it comes.
Better run!

It stalks you on silent wings.
A shriek in the night.
Screams of fright!

It creeps and crawls with ancient need.
You must flee
for it will feed!

It comes for you on padded feet.
A dire plight.
Desperate flight!

Feel it slither on your skin?
Be very still
or it may win!

Now it's choking off your air!
Try to fight
with all your might!

Say your prayer,
hold your breath.
This is it.
This is Death!

Morbid, I know. Some are worse! Some are depressing, some are religious in nature. Some are about friendship, love or lost love. I ran pretty much the whole gambit! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

BTW - this one ALSO got published a few years ago.

I think a lot of people could relate to this one! Personally, I don't read horror novels - as I don't have hidden fears about death. I just think it's a doorway to whatever comes next, and am mildly intrigued by it, although not obsessed as I think living life in this moment, NOW, is what counts.

My flat mate likes horror novels, and we have many discussions on this subject! (Any poems I write about death are likely to be quite celebratory! Doesn't mean I've got a death wish, though, cos I absolutely don't. Life is cool, at least, it looks that way from where I'm sitting.... Again, thanks for sharing, lovely DragonMage!

Poor lovey. Eight Anadin! Jesus. I've only just seen this, I'll ring you in a minute! In the meantime, here's something for when you're feeling better...

Bloody Teeth

My molars are quite painful
my left cheek's full of pus
life's a right pain in the bum
and what's this? Yes, it's thrush!

My wisdom tooth is troublesome
(why do they call it that?)
I'm waiting for an answer but -
I think the concept's crap

I'm still as daft as ever
with tooth or without
and all this pain and misery
seems to be for nowt

So yank it out dear dentist
then I really have to go
it's Doctor's turn - to amputate
my septic little toe

And when I'm dead and buried
Cut off tragic in me prime
be comforted, for I'll have gone
from ridiculous to sublime....

There you go sweetie, just for you. Last line doesn't quite scan, but who cares... (Go on, tell me the pain's nothing to do with your wisdom tooth....)

I'm glad you liked the poems. About the last one: don't misinterpret...I don't read horrors out of a fear of death or any such thing. I just like to get the **** scared out of me and Stephen King and Dean Koontz (among others) do the job nicely. I have a twisted, dark side that likes to be scared. That's why I like Halloween and Haunted Houses.

I don't mean that I want to constantly be scared. I actually laugh going through the Haunted Houses, or if a friend hides around a corner and jumps out to startle me. But afraid of death...nah! No biggie here. My life's good, but I also look forward to what comes next! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

The only reason this poem popped out of me was because I had just read Desperation and The Regulators (both by S. King, but one written as his alter-ego - Richard Bachman). Very intriguing twist, that one. Same story from different 'sides of the fence' it seems. Also, somewhat a 'psychological thriller' as well as a horror. I am fascinated with the workings of the human mind - including my own, therefore I like to experience all kinds of things.

(Maybe that last bit has some bearing on my test results??? http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif )

Aha, totally got you. Know what you mean about experiencing all kinds of things I got married when I was 19, just to see what it was like. (Pretty poo and boring actually, but that may have been down to the man rather than the institution!!)

Have you read The Shoreshank Redemption by Steven King? Only one I liked really, though I haven't given him much of a chance. Couple of Clive Barker's I really liked: Imagica and Weaveworld. Although he's kind of a cross between horror and fantasy, I guess?
