Yep, old folks with the hearts of teenagers... One advantage of being older, we take our time and notice all the details... May not remember them all, but we notice them.....

Whatever, it's not like teenagers do not notice details...We notice them AND remember them.

Okay, I don't have Wizardry 8 yet, but since I am going to have it sometime I might as well post in this thread
My name is Patrick, don't call me Pat or Patty, if you do I'll stick your head on a pike and put it outside my front door . I'm 15 but I've been repeatedly mistaken for a 20-30 year old here on IW(Even a 60 year old once.), I live in Denmark, not the most exciting place on Earth, but it'll do, until I finish my education, then I'm getting the hell out of this place. My time spent off of IW is quite small but what little there is is spent going to school or relaxing(Though IW counts as relaxing as well ). My favorite games are RPGs, though strategy games will do if I've got nothing else to play, never tried any of the other games in the Wizardry series before but I'm looking forward to trying Wizardry 8 |
Hi guys! I am from Alexandria, VA. ,40 years young, and married for 4 years. She is a wonderful ladie to put up with my "gaming" in electronic land I just got wizardry 8 last weekend and I am having a blast..or is that getting blasted..? Great so far and I am very impressed to say the least.
I am an Exhibit Specialist for the Smithsonian Inst. I build things from metal, wood, and plastics ;like artifact mounts, in and out of wall cases, facades, and theme show types of decor. Very hands on after work also. Good to meet you all and my first computer game was Castle Wolfenstein..I did escape to! (Original D&D player also.) |
Hello all! May as well introduce myself here. My name is Dave and I'm 29. I have been playing Wizardry since the early 80's when it finally came out for the Pcjr(anybody here own one of those?!) After that I got hooked on the Bard's Tale series and have been playing CRPG ever since then. I really enjoyed the King's Quest series, they were alot of fun. In the past year I have been playing 3rd edition D&D with my girlfriend and my son (42 and 8 respectively) on the weekends. Its been alot of fun introducing them to the whole world of RPG's as they have really found it alot of fun. Plus, it seems to be a way to spend time together that isn't forced. Everyone is looking forward to the time we spend together playing the game. Sounds cheesy, but its true! Ok, cya!

Hey all. Well, I am 31 years old physically, with the mentality of a 15 year old. I live in San Diego California (ain't no better place! LOL!)... I got into Wizardry ... WAY WAY WAY back in the day (breaks out walking stick and heads for the Apple ][ computer and whacks it), when Wizardry 1 first came out on THAT thing. My best friend at the time, Shawn, had introduced me to Wizardry. It was rather simple looking, but yet incredible all in one.
He and I would spend the night at his place (his dad did computer work so there were computers in every room, networked through a mess of insane wires). We would spend day in and day out checking out this game, and making our way through it. My only qualm back then was the spell names! LOL! Man, having to flip through the spells names, then finally the day when we began to memorize what the spell names were... that's when it got scarey! Well, right around the same time of Wizardry, I found myself getting into RPG (AD&D, er, well D&D as it was back then). Played AD&D forever and a day, from like 6th grade (dating myself here - oh wait, already confessed my age!) through the 8th grade. Then stopped playing, but got all the RPG AD&D books simply because I had taken up writing, and often used monsters found in the books for my own little silly stories. (I have Tolkien to thank for the chasing the dream of becoming a writer, because my 4th grade teacher read "The Hobbit" to the class, which made me check out the book for two years - yes, two years - straight. I read that book backwards, inside out, the works. Even would write what Tolkien did, to copy him; then try to rewrite it with my own words, as practice back then)! Well, I ended up gaming again, about five years ago for about four years straight (dear gawd, does that make any sense at all?). We recently stopped because our GM and his wife had a kid, and we're a loud bunch. (Between me and Adam, we crack jokes left and right, which makes the people errupt into laughter, which typically woke up the newborn)! After we stopped playing AD&D (3rd Edition takes QUITE a bit getting used to when you've played 2nd Edition for SO many years), I picked up EverQuest, as most of us did (it was a way of meeting together without worrying about waking up the baby). I recently dropped out of EverQuest about a month ago, and was suffering through major burn out of all my interests... comics, figures, games, the works. Then Wizardry 8 came out - and I didn't let myself get hyped, for fear of placing too much expectation into it (a mistake I learned with say, oh, Phantom Menace). To this day, I keep finding myself amazed by Wizardry 8. It's an incredible, incredible game. Previously, Realms of Arkania was my favorite computer game for a very long time (mainly Star Trail), but Wizardry 8 is quickly climbing up there to take it's place. Some of my other interests include Star Wars (another major, major influence in my life), older comics (when I mean older, I am not talking extremely old - just today's comics are nothing but T&A, and if I want that I will go for the real thing), and I am sure some other things that don't come to mind. Oh! Something you should all check out, if you have not already, is the band Savatage! They are an incredible band, and yet one of the big inspirations in my life... (I try to grab influence from writing, games, movies and music to make myself one heck of a bundle of creativity!) Um, that's all for right now... probably will think of 30 things to add after I hit "Add Reply". AH HA! See, I knew I'd think of something... Any of you familiar with the comic strip "Knights of the Dinner Table"? Well, what I did was take that strip, and the characters, and based them off my friends and myself and our gaming sessions, even renamed them... Some of the strips aren't funny unless you're directly involved, yet many gamers have found relation to the strips (which amazes me!)... but anyway, they're on my site... http://www.geocities.com/tawmis Then on the menu, click on "Friday Night Bloodhunts." The way that name (Friday Night Bloodhunts) came to be was because at my job where I worked along with Paul (my closest friend nowadays and DM back then); my boss had asked if we wanted to go out with her and get smashed. (Keep in mind, Paul and I were married, dern it). We turned her down saying that tonight we were gonna do some gaming. And she asked, playfully, if we dress up like vampires and hunt people down (or pretend to, with one another). We laughed and said we weren't larpers (Live Action Role Players) and could never get into it, but we started laughing about how every friday we apparently went on bloodhunts! So that's how the name came to be. Phew, I think this is my longest post! Tawmis |
Hi all,
I'm glad to find such a neat forum as this. Yet another good thing that's come out of Wiz8 . 'Tis comforting to know I'm not the only one that's a tad older around here... Am 31, closing in fast on 32<g>. Have always dug games. First sys ever was the ancient Atari. Have been into the Wiz series since Wiz4 really, though it was Wiz5 that really turned me on and that to this day I consider one of the best games, period. Just think: Maps for the most part had to be drawn on your own, since an automap came only in the form of a spell that was cast<lol>. No help with solving riddles from hintbooks or such, and some of those riddles were darned difficult. No eye candy or 3D gaphics, and yet it was such an awesome game that its spirit is what I set the standard by for not only other Wiz series games, but all crpg's! Far as game genres I guess I could be classified as Grognard/Strat-CRPG'er-Sim'er. Never got into shooters eg quake or doom, they actually made my eyes and head hurt, alomst made me nauseous<L>. Adventures eg Myst and Rivewn never really appealed to me much either though I guess there could be a few exceptions that I havent tried yet. Heard that Vampire is 'sposed to be pretty good and thats an adventure game right? For Sims I've gotten into some combat flight sims and tank sims, along with sims eg the Caesar series, even a Sim City and another very similar the name of which I forget. I love strat games, including RTS, 4X, more. Loved MOO2, and am a bit anxious and bummed that MOO3 is getting butchered by a bunch of arrogant self righteous know it alls who are killing the spirit of it IMHO. They arent the orignial development team and seem arrogant beyond belief when it comes to MOO3. Seems more than anything that a few of them are designing the game to suit them and screw what the fans think. Sad too, I was really hoping for a great sequel. Europa Universalis is a really nice, refreshing strat series IMHO. Esp EU2, which is first on my list after Wiz8. |

Age 53, wife and 2 kids (10 & 12 - I started late). Director of D&E at a major theme park. No such thing as too much fun! |
Although my gamename is Throg, powerful dwarf from Barsoom, in the other world out there, I'm a 63-year-old female from Washington DC (the Hot Air Capital of the World).
The first adventture game I played was called Adventure. "You are in a maze of twisty little passages; a little dwarf throws an axe at you," and I'm not sure I ever left those twisty little passages. My first CRPG was Wizardry I, and I was hooked. I used to be a computer geek, but retired and spend my spare time teaching older folk to use computers, playing games, and constructing crossword puzzles. Wow, average age is rising. Hello to all, I'll throw in my 37 years, maybe I should post this in 2 days, 38 then. I am Morthal, married since 8 years, father and houseman, we got 4 kids between 3 and 7 years old and live in Kiel, northern germany. Pretty much a fulltime job, but I always got time for a few battles until I have to serve family again, and at least the night is mine. ;)
No (A)D&D-experience here, I started Crpgs with 'Legend of Faerghail' for Amiga, followed by Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, and then Might&Magic III. 'Bane of the Cosmic Forge' was my first Wizardry. The most I love those games like Wizardry, Realms of Arkania and M&M that offer the possibility of creating a party of 6. I like to use the names of my family in party, some a bit modified. 2 of the kids are already able to read and sometimes I get a nervous breakdown when fighting against a huge horde of monsters and they stand in the background and scream: Daddy, you are poisoned! The life-bar of me is going down! :) Since the times of Dungeon Master I purchased and played nearly each game that smelled a bit fantasy-like. My favourites are quite a mixture of styles, Wizardry, Might&Magic, EoB, RoA, Fallout, Dark Sun, but I also liked to play Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX, and...(call me heretic if you like)...Pokemon Gold. ;þ Most disappointing games were Droyan, Corum: Dark Lord, Der Seelenturm. I never touched Ultima except for a few hours of Pagan. Somehow I hate Lord British. I admit that I don't know him personally, but that avatar-stuff always was a bit too shiny for me, I prefer 'loosers' like in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. Those series immediately stopped end of June last year when Diablo 2 was released (call me heretic if you like *g*). I've been playing that game, later LoD, until 3 weeks ago. I run a clan on USEast, so I always have fine company when playing online, and there's always an item that you badly need. ;) But then I downloaded the demo of Wizardry VIII. Only did a few steps, then de-installed again and searched my archives-cd. I had to replay Bane after my 4th child was born. The sixth char in my (family-)party was a female Rawulf called Gwenhwyfar like the irish wolfhound we had at that time. But my 4th kid is a son, Elric, so I decided to replay Bane again to be able to have him in my CoDS-party. I remember that I started CoDS after finishing Bane, but I had to start somewhere near Ukpyr and gave in after a while. Now 3 weeks ago I imported my old Bane-save again and managed to travel from Ukpyr to New City with a lot of reloading. Now my party stays at the training-spot in the Crypt until finally I get my Wiz 8, should be here in the beginning of next week...*drools*. Morthal |
