Fine. I'm Raistlin.
I create a powerful level 10 spell 'Slay Elminster'. This spell allows no saves, bypasses magic resistance and munchkin 'Faerunian powergaming Elminster saves/contingencies/cheese' in all forms. It also prevents resurrection of any form on the afflicted. The spell also has a casting time of 0, just for good measure. Oh, and it can't be 'evaded' by Elminster's cheese either ;) Elminster dies a horrible agonising death. Mystra commits suicide. Spellfire breaks down. Everyone is happy, fair play is restored to the Universe and the Harpers collapse - ending yet another munchkin organisation that promotes good while claiming to promote a 'balance'. Yay. |
And the Weave is part of Faerun. It's not an external force. Take away Elminster's spellfire and you'd also take away the PC's ability to use magic. They'd have to be in an antimagic zone.
Who said the contest was held in Faerun? Nobody. And if it isn't held on Faerun (or Krynn for that matter) no external planet-specific abuses can be used. It's simply a 5 mile x 5 mile plane. And good luck to Elmunchkin without his cheese. |
If cheese is an inherent part of a character, you shouldn't take it away. Not to mention that the "cheese" was put in to show just how powerful he really is. Battle him as he is, with all of his abilities, and you with all of your abilities. If it means that he gets more minions than you, fine; that's his ability, and it shouldn't be removed.
That's like saying: Okay, I'll strip away all of your protections, toss away all of your equipment, wipe all of your abilities/spells, leave you with 1 HP, keep you Blinded, Cursed, Silenced, and Enfeebled, and an Archer with Critical Hit on fired a +6 arrow that is a split second from hitting you. Oh, and did I mention the 5 different characters all surrounding you with swords raised? =/ However, before this comes into a discussion of just how many loopholes in the original design you can exploit, would you say that if the PC and Elminster, with all of their powers and abilities clashed in the Docks (no Anti-Magic Zones, no restrictions, no nothing), Elminster would win? I would say yes. |
Ok, know what? I'm finished with this discussion. It grows too foolish for my tastes.

there are a lot of interseting thing's a PC could do, if not bound to game mechanics.. I mean we've got all the makeing's of a curse, since if you kept that harper in your party you could get an item he's touched, or even if your sneaky might be able to snaffle some of his hair, a loose flake of skin.. and so on, Elminster has so many cheesy defences because in p'n'p you can do so many diffrent thing's that have to be blocked or at least negated, you can't have people killing off lengends all over the shop, or they'd not be legends. not letting the PC use cheese IS like telling them to hope on one leg blindfolded and then try and beat so and so.. |
This has to be one of the most inane topics I've ever read on Ironworks. Its the sort of thing my D&D mates might have discussed...when we were 12 or if we were drunk.

Hey feel free Q'alooaith, I wouldn't want my sarcasm stopping anyone from trying to write up their latest hypothesis for a new "What IF" comic strip.
I mean really, its all lovely fantasy nonsense - most D&D circles wouldn't be the same without these kinds of discussions. But a lively debate? Hmm. Maybe not. I'll grant you that it makes quite entertaining reading, sure, but winning an argument in it borders on being an exercise in futility. :D |
yup, but it can be fun.
Now if somone is active for the other side it's much more entertaining.. I still think my PFME scroll cast on them is a good idea, cut em off from the magical lifeblood and watch them wither in a hail of +3 arrow's and such.. |
