Yeesh! Egads! :D

Er... Paintbucket?

Re: Art Requests

I'm thinking a nice image from TSR or WotC. CocoaSpud had included a nice explanation and link to their usage policy. As long as I don't try to make money off of what I am doing, I can use AD&D images (there are some other rules, too, but of course I would be following them). :D

Uatu 07-16-2008 09:09 PM

Re: Art Requests

Really? What other rules are there?

SilentThief 07-17-2008 12:10 AM

Re: Art Requests

1st rule of Dnd, we don't talk about Dnd...

ps, sorry... I'm false-quoting Fight Club

Re: Art Requests

The standard copyrighty type of thing- can't do anything lewd, can't claim they're ours, can't use them to break laws, etc. :D

Uatu 07-18-2008 03:02 AM

Re: Art Requests

Hmm - the first two are easy, the last one is hard (how many laws are there, anyway?)

Uatu 07-18-2008 11:33 AM

Re: Art Requests

Githzerai added (among other stuff)

manikus 07-18-2008 06:49 PM

Re: Art Requests

By breaking the law, they mean we can't use the image to defame someone or as part of hate speech, etc. All stuff that I couldn't imagine anybody from DC doing under any circumstances.

Now I am off to find me a githzerai. :)

Uatu 08-08-2008 06:34 AM

Re: Art Requests

I uploaded a few new icons, including a duodrone; another one that I like is the mimic.

manikus 08-08-2008 06:01 PM

Re: Art Requests

Oohhhhh! Very nice. The mimic is particularly nice. So is the duodrone. So is the grippli :)
I found the mimic, duidrone and grippli...were there any more?

Uatu 08-09-2008 06:17 AM

Re: Art Requests

Thanks! :D

Well - there were a few humans/demihumans/humanoids, too...

manikus 08-09-2008 10:34 AM

Re: Art Requests

Hmm, I thought that, but everyone I tried to save, I already had. :D

manikus 08-09-2008 10:40 AM

Re: Art Requests

:) I swear that I didn't see the rock gnome or halfling, or if I did I thought it was a couple of kids playing in with the grown-up icons. :)

Uatu 08-09-2008 11:24 AM

Re: Art Requests

Not possible! :D (I hide the icons in the same rows as older icons - y'know, gotta save space...)

The rock gnome and halfling are old fellas already, though...

manikus 08-09-2008 06:32 PM

Re: Art Requests

Dang it! Well, they were new to my hard drive. (I thought that I had seen a halfling before...) I think there are officially foo many for me to track now. :D

Uatu 08-09-2008 11:02 PM

Re: Art Requests

Really? :D Well, some of the newer ones include the kobold variations, the xvart variation, an elven priestess of Hanali Celanil, and a female druid-type (was planning a ranger originally, but the sword didn't fit!)

(The last two are the newest, so you can't have saved them already! ...unless you have a time machine, or...)

manikus 08-09-2008 11:25 PM

Re: Art Requests

I hadn't saved any of those, but I have now. Going back through, I caught all of them except for the druidess. :D I'll go find her now.

Uatu 08-10-2008 09:05 PM

Re: Art Requests

Hmm - guess it is pretty hard to keep track of what is new on my site :D

manikus 08-10-2008 11:26 PM

Re: Art Requests

:D Plus, I'm an old fogey and we're not famous for good memories.

I wish I new an easy way to set a little graphic that said "new" eaither next to or preferably overlapping one corner of the new art that still allowed the person to get the art AND was really easy for me to do with doing two versions (or more) so that there was the "new" one which they clicked on to see the one without the "new" on it.

...Maybe if I added another row in the table...maybe if I created a new class with an offet for the style sheet...

:D We'll see. :D Ziroc did a pretty good job of it, but that is more work than I want to do - going back in and changing html other than to comment something out. :D

Uatu 08-10-2008 11:54 PM

Re: Art Requests

The other problem is, how new is "new?" One week? One month? Or should only the newest additions be "new?"

(It is a lot of trouble, either way!)

LurchBrick 08-11-2008 05:48 AM

Re: Art Requests

You could always just list them in the date order in which you upload them to your site.

manikus 08-11-2008 11:44 AM

Re: Art Requests

That's what I am doing now, keeping them chronological (for the most part). I don't think it's too confusing, but I hope to get enough art work up that it becomes that way. :) I have different sections, sometimes on the same page, it would be nice to somehow differentiate them.

As for how long is new...well, as the site maintainer, it would be whatever you want. :D With as busy as our sites are now, it might be a month or two. (I mean the amount of traffic we get, btw.)

Something that I used to do, which you do much of the time, Uatu, is name each new graphic in the news section (I still do this part) and I would provide a direct link to the art (which I don't do anymore - it is a lot of work), so the first time they can get it from the news section, or they can come back later and look through the various pages, or scroll through old news. :ninjas:

P.S.- Hi, LurchBrick! Nice to see you around again. :D:D:D

Uatu 08-11-2008 08:15 PM

Re: Art Requests

Yeah... I do the date thing usually, but I am getting a bit lazy now... (I also leave out small corrections and such.)

manikus 08-11-2008 08:34 PM

Re: Art Requests

:) I've been feeling particularly DC lazy, lately. :)

That was my problem, but now I'm in the market for new employment (which always shucks (the corn... gotta stay PG ;))

Re: Art Requests

Yeah... that does sock ;) It does have the potential to make things better, too, though. :)

manikus 08-12-2008 11:45 AM

Re: Art Requests

I've got two more terms of school after this one, and then I will be putting all of my spare time to getting a job in my new field. Ya, I'm not looking forward to that. I don't mind interviewing, but I hate the tracking down leads, submitting resumes, waiting for phone calls/emails part of it. Blechhh! :P

Uatu 08-12-2008 08:36 PM

Re: Art Requests

Making use of agency-type services (you don't pay anything) is often nicer...

manikus 08-12-2008 09:28 PM

Re: Art Requests

I've used them in the past, and I wasn't too impressed with what they were finding for me. :( It was like, Oh, you know computers? Well, what about this sales job? You don't want to do that? How about this sales job?, etc, etc ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

SilentThief 08-12-2008 09:40 PM

Re: Art Requests

yes the use of agencies is nice (and seems to be taking on more of the jobs available everyday), and yes it is infinitly nausiating ;)

Uatu 08-12-2008 10:15 PM

Re: Art Requests

Hmm - it does depend a lot on the agency you use.

Sometimes independents are better than the big agencies, which are rather impersonal, but of course, they can vary.

manikus 08-12-2008 11:50 PM

Re: Art Requests

The only good agency experience I had was in Minneapolis, where after a couple of dead-end interviews, I got a job at the agency. :D It was a second job that I was only working for four months or so...it was kinda fun. I wasn't in the part that was actually placing people.

Uatu 08-13-2008 12:44 AM

Re: Art Requests

Ah - agencies giving jobs at the agency. It happens sometimes :D

manikus 08-13-2008 05:43 PM

Re: Art Requests

Here are some icon requests for you, Uatu. :)

basilisk
drider
owlbear

Uatu 08-13-2008 08:36 PM

Re: Art Requests

Ah - some nice ones, there. (I see the drider is a repeat order! Will get one that one soon, I promise ;) )

manikus 08-13-2008 08:57 PM

Re: Art Requests

It never hurts to ask. :) (again) :D:D:D

Uatu 08-13-2008 09:01 PM

Re: Art Requests

Perhaps I will go and edit the list on page 1 to be in order of likeliness... :)

manikus 08-13-2008 09:06 PM

Re: Art Requests

There is no pressure to do a drider (or any of my other requests either). :) I was getting the monster database ready for the next release of DC and those are the only three icons I need to have all 75 monsters ready to go. :D

Now, I'm working on spells. :D I will need someone to test them out for me, but as of now there are several spells for each level for mages - all the way up through level 9. :D:D:D

Uatu 08-13-2008 09:12 PM

Re: Art Requests

Cool :) I will do some more spell graphics, too... some time...

If we get illusionists one of these days, I can make nice illusionist spells, too (color spray, etc.)! :D
