I find it strange, actually, that many older fans find Metallica so repulsive now, because of their change. Noticing ages and such, they have pretty much grown up with the band, chronologically. But mentally, it seems different. The band has done a lot of growing psychologically, very quickly, thus the change in music. Kirk has spent time learning more things to do with his guitar, and James took the time to go to rehab, so that he can still do what he loves: make music. They also picked up their new bassist, Robert Trujillo, who mirrors the band's new outlook. You're right, they're not out to please the fans, but they're also not out to please the suits. They're there 'cause they wanna be, that's it. They're enjoying themselves, and i think, rediscovering their band and what it stands for. So, instead of arguing about it 'til "the cows come home," lets just all agree that we hope they do this, and in doing so "revisit their garage days" in music. (had to go for the pun).
