is this better then? -
The one that allows people the right to have sexual relations with a consensual partner of the same sex, or the one that says those people are evil and will burn for all eternity?

<font color=deepskyblue>No, <font color=coral>Rokenn</font>, that isn't any better...because nobody has said this in any post in either thread. In fact, the Bible doesn't even say this. It does call homosexuality an <font color=white>"abomination"</font>, but it does not arbitrarily relegate all homosexuals to Hell.
</font>
</font>
And the penalty for 'abomination' is death. Pretty severe:

Quote:

Leviticus 20

10If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.
11The man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness; both of them shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.
12If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall be put to death; they have committed perversion, their blood is upon them.
13If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.
14If a man takes a wife and her mother also, it is depravity; they shall be burned to death, both he and they, that there may be no depravity among you.
15If a man has sexual relations with an animal, he shall be put to death; and you shall kill the animal.
16If a woman approaches any animal and has sexual relations with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them.
</font>
Old testament stuff. The "old" god is geared primarily at the Muslim faiths. The New Testament is based on forgiveness and should be where you look for your answers.

Disease. Potential livestock and human infection. </font>
Yup, remember syphilis was originally a sheep disease.

Really? Does that mean you toss out the Ten Commandments as well?

Funny, how advocating an "institution" that tends to promote monagamy, aka marriage, would help reduce the risk of AIDS. Funny how that works just fine for heteros, but just cant work for homos in a legal sense. Ironic the topic would turn this way.
For the record, I don't believe AIDS is a "gay disease" or is some kind of punishment for homosexuality. All viruses are spread through bodily fluids. We're just lucky enough that some of the real nasty ones are'nt airborne.

Bear in mind the laws in Leviticus, were as have been stated, specifically the laws for Israel - part of Israels bargain in the God-Man covenant. Israel did frequently ignore these and turn away from God, so he would abandon them. When they repented and agreed to the conditions he would again bestow favour.

Bear in mind also, that Christianity is centred around Jesus Grace and other thinking that I have already posted extensively on.

To blithely post Leviticus out of context like that is fruitless. Were I living in ancient Israel, I would have been put to death. But were I living in a culture where what I did had the death penalty, I would not have done what it was that demanded the death penalty.

Though I have felt like dying a thousand times since.

Additionally you have to be aware of the nations and cultures that surrounded Israel at the time.

They were matriarchal cultures, with sex rites, temple prostitution and rampant immorality. To seperate Israel from the cultures surrounding it, the requirements involving a Patriarchal society, harsher penalties for immorality, Hebrew-Hebrew marriages and the like were decreed.

You cannot take the Bible out of context. To do so is to miss so much of the wisdom, and open yourself up to complete misinterpretation into legalistic narrow minded repressionism, instead of the Grace filled liberation that is knowing Christ Jesus.

The passages I quoted say nothing of sin. They say kill the buggers.
