Huh? Edwin better than a self made mage? How so?

~ ~ ~ ~ Galadria took in Viconia because with ToB, you can change her alignment. |

Edwin has an amulet that gives him 2 additional spell slots per spell level. That gives him a maximum of 8 spells slots per spell level. No self created Mage can get that many without cheating. You may say that you can use equipment as well, but bear in mind that Edwin can also use these equipment, and there is no amulet that will give you his bonuses. And no, you can't kill Edwin to get his amulet. Trust me... I tried. ;) |
Edwin is fairly more powerful, but I only used him in my evil party.

Edwin - because he is a powerful mage.
I also enjoy his 'superiority' attitude and verbal putdowns. I have both him and Viconia in my party and some of the dialog between them is hysterical - she asking about his virility and him bragging about it. To me it's far more entertaining to listen to them than Aerie whining about her wings or Nalia going on about the poor [ 03-27-2002, 11:06 AM: Message edited by: Hecate ] |
Thats the attitude, Hectate!

I forgot to mention that I also have Jan the gnome in my party as well and his repartee with the rest is great as well, especially when he puts down that stuck up Sir Anomen.
I'm playing this game to have fun. I originally had Aerie in my party but got so disgusted I gave her the Helmut of Opposite Attraction in hopes it would change her personality - no such luck as she was still annoying. |
Hm... first post, so not sure if this'll work. But here goes. Hope I'm not rambling too much.
I'll admit now that I'm somewhat new to BGII, and haven't done much with Edwin (playing as a LG sorceress, I planned on boosting my reputation up - he'd leave the group before long anyways). Erm... I'll draw up a list, since it's shorter than ranting on every topic I think of. Nalia: Rogue skills (albeit weak), rogue equipment (not such an advantage), higher HP, nice personal item (Signet Ring), personality and voice leave a lot to be desired, good alignment. Edwin: Godlike personal item (thus more spells per level), funny (at least in BGI he was), specialized Conjurer (can't use Div spells like True Sight), evil alignment (can't raise reputation too high, vulnerable to Holy Smite). I guess Edwin is a stronger "pure" mage, and Nalia is more of a rounded character. I think the alignment should be a factor, unless your charater has a good reason to ignore this. Speaking of... this thread also has a lot of alignment discussion going on. I like to think of myself as a decent RPer, and try to stay in character. Alignment is more than just a mark on the page, though not completely restrictive. Lawful Good characters can do some pretty mean stuff, if it follows their moral code. (erm... CMA here, but potential spoiler alert?) . . . . . My LG wiz went through the final test in Hell and came out NE - and I played her according to her character. I believe refusing to sacrifice yourself to save someone else isn't an evil action... even though the game does  I never even noticed the alignment change until I started over and summoned an evil familiar. Granted, I was paying attention to the Slayer Irenicus, and not my character record. But now I'm having just as much fun playing an evil character... and hey, I might keep Edwin this time around ;) |
