I'm not sure about that either, but i think they do. It's the same with assassins, after a few succesful assassinations they gain experience and have a better chance of succes with future attempts. I've had an assassin once that was good enough to eliminate an inquisitor, usually he has less than 10% chance of a succesfull attempt.

I can get assassins to gain levels, but not the bishops or alims...maybe I have to throw them in some foreign province?

johnny 05-19-2004 03:40 PM

Yes, either that, or in a province that's already yours, but has frequent uprisings. That's where they're needed mostly.

I'm going through the "uprising phase" myself at the moment. I'm playing the English, and have conquered more than 3/4 of the map. Besides myself, there are only the Egyptians, Sicilians, and the Papacy left, the rest has been eliminated. But almost every turn, there are one or two uprisings, mostly in Spain, North Africa, and Novgorod. Very annoying.

I ran out of time with the English(the start kind of sucked, as it was my first game), but my current game with the Egyptians is going well, as I now control the whole bottom map, the Turkish area and most of spain!(I had to crush the other Islamic nations first just to get out of the corner!). The only problem Im having, is that the damn pope has united the christian world against me!

Heheh... i know, that happens when you play an Islamic faction. I've played with the Turks, and had an early war with the Byzantines. Once you conquer Constantinopel, for some reason all catholic factions send crusaderarmies that way. As if Constantinopel is the key to win or something. :D

note: the turks has the strongest infantry which is damn near impossible to beat. its in the late technology tree though. you might want to check it out and make use of them since your turks. Ive played with 2 people (networking) and all i can say even the royal knights with archers behind thier backs cannot defeat them on equal ground (even when they are going downhill you knights). All other infantry are totall useless against them. Believed me i tried!

What's the name of that unit ? I don't recall the Turks having such strong infantry, not in the early stages and not in the late stages. The best footsoldiers are the Italian infantry IIRC.

The strength of the Turks was their fast moving light cavalry in my game.

Im thinking its one of the following:
1)Janissary Heavy Infantry
2)Kwarazmiam Cavalry(though the Egyptians also have them. Very heavy cavalry)
3)Sipahis of the Porte
as these all require Master buildings, and are heavy infantry. ;)

BTW, I figured out how to gain stars for holy men! They can propose alliances(probably cease fires too) when dropped on kings...I dont see the point in them gaining stars in this way, however...

Try lowering taxes. It helps quite a bit

I havent had one rebellion in my Egyptian game so far, and Im rather wondering why, because my kings are rather poor(low stats), the loyalty of most generals is rather questionable, at the very least(Ive gotten a few messages which warn me of a civil war because of the disloyalty. thankfully the powerful generals are loyal...I still cant believe i have 4(+) generals with over 7 stars!), and in my English game everything was like perfect, but I had revolts every turn...go figure
