No the Wall has very little to do with the Berlin Wall, although they did play live at the Berlin Wall when it was torn down.

The wall album is soley about Pink Floyd's bassist/acoustic guitarist and vocal singer Roger Water's life. He wrote everything pretty much. It has to deal with the pyschological mind of people as they grow up. Watching the movie that came out with it helps a lot.

The movie is about our character named Pink. He sits in a hotel room, and his memories are flashed before him via the Wall songs. And each song/life event leads up to every "brick" in the wall. The wall is the wall that everybody builds up at one point and hermits themselves from society for numerous reasons. And slowly, everything comes to a trial with each event acting as witnesses, and the wall gets torn down. Hope that clarifies a bit.

It does, but I was told that the story takes place in WW2. And, on the back of the book it shows a weird picture of two legs, and a couple other things I'm afraid to say since this is a Family oriented forum.

The story flashes back and forth. The beginnings of the Wall are indeed scenes from WWII. Roger Water's father, Eric Fletcher Waters, was killed in WWII. In fact, in the Wall movie, there is a new song (also released in the newly edited version of The Finally Cut) called When the Tigers Broke Free.
This is the song
It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the Forward Commander was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks
Held back the enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio Bridgehead was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall, in the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp
To remember His Majesty
Signed with his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command took my Daddy from me.

And yes, there are some odd stuff. That scene is part of the Trial, and he is the judge. It is interesting. I recommend you watch it, if your parents do not mind a rated R movie.

ack, so much basic poppy simple music here. I'm glad someone mentioned PF, but it's the only progband here yet! Time for some more:
Yes
King Crimson
Jethro Tull
Rush
Gentle Giant

If you like single musicians, like prince, you can post those too.

I hate "the wall" because the guitar is too repetitive...drives me nuts...I like "wish you were here" and "dark side of the moon," though...

And Nelly McKay is my favorite single musician...

You've got to be kidding. I've got two songs for you, Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell.
If you are talking about Another Brick in the Wall parts I,II, and III, that is a different story. The guitar chords are prett much the same with a few alterations, except for the solo on Another Brick in the Wall Part II.

Don't forget Mother, another notable song in there that most everyone has heard. That and The Thin Ice are two great songs that change mood and tempo on the album.

SecretMaster - favorite PF album, if you can name one? Although it's not as chock full of songs, Animals has always been high on my list. First PF album I ever owned...

Definately The Final Cut. It is arguably a Roger Waters album only, but was produced in Pink Floyd's name with most band members.
