I hadn't really thought about this. I definitely will once I'm done. :) I may put up a preview page before then, of course I need to have something to preview first. I started adding rooms to buildings yesterday, but I haven't placed any events yet.

Hmm, you guys are all going to do the pre-made thing? Sounds like a good idea (in that one can-do with less art :D )...

Darn, I should have read this thread before spending hours on assembling 50 character portraits and 50 combat icons for all classes and races.
:golem5:

........ :hollering:

BTW, I noticed there's a shortage of female dwarf icons (no pun intended). Of course, one could argue there ARE female dwarf icons, they just are indistinguishable from the male ones. :biglaugh:

But I'll probably go for more feminine dwarves. Since I mostly went with Kaltusara's collection of combat icons (because so far I think it is the largest one), I might take his dwarf as a base for the sex transformation and fashion some new icons from it, even though it will further distract me from actually building something.

:D
I think I could do 50 portraits and icons for PCs, if the deadline were December 2011.
:D

There's a request thread in the forums here asking for a female dwarf to match the small pic. I still need some half-orc icons, too.

Exactly, Oliver! My rationale is that female dwarves look no different from male dwarves, and that saves me lots of icon/small pic drawing time :D (I grant that gnomes actually have females that look, um, different, though.)

Well, I am around 92% finished with the basic design, and I should reach 95% today... With "basic" I mean that it's playable and nothing crucial is missing. But I fear the "tutorial" part of the contribution... :(

In any case, I should really have done some small designs earlier, instead of spending 5 years with one big design... :D

Re: Fall 2009 Design Contest

For me, I think the tutorial part will be the easy part - it's just coming up with something to put in my game to eventually write a tutorial about that I'm having trouble with. :D

Let's see, I think I am about 7% done. :( To break it down (Whoa-o-oh, whoa-o-oh):
Art: (weighted to 20%)
.....Walls: 50%
.....Backdrops: 80%
.....Portraits: 10%
.....Icons: 25%
.....Frame: 25%
.....Other: 100%
Coding: (weighted to 50%)
.....Level Layout: 15%
.....Events: 0%
.....Zones: 0%
.....Step Events: 0%
Story: (weighted to 20%)
.....Setting: 100%
.....Characters: 5%
.....Plot: 5%
Tutorial: (weighted to 10%)
.....Secret Passage: 0%
.....Trap: 0%

Hi,

I don't post often but just to let you know I haven't dropped off the earth or lost interest, I thought I would give a short update.

I am about 60 % done. The story line is complete, the construction of the levels about 75 %, and the programming maybe 40 %. All of the magical items have at least been created about a third are fully functional. There are going to be multiple possible endings of which three are done (the easy three, of course). My spouse is out of town this week and I am taking vacation next week, so there will be plenty of time to work on this.

I am having fun doing this and am really looking forward to seeing the other work as I am sure there will be some great ideas I can borrow and perhaps build on.

Re: Fall 2009 Design Contest

Wow, you guys are leagues ahead of me. So far the only thing I completed (more or less) is create a base mod I can work with (selection of frame, screen background, walls, backdrops, PC portraits & icons, custom sounds). Seems like changing the medium didn't change the way I go about designing...

I've got no story yet and 0% done on the mod itself. :whoknows:

On the other hand, right now I'm actually getting paid for developping a story concept and writing something, so no wonder at the moment the contest smells like work for me, too. :laugh2:

Re: Fall 2009 Design Contest

I wish I was getting paid for developing a story. :) It would be nice to make money doing something I enjoyed. (Even if it meant less work on DC...)

Olivier, it sounds like you are ahead of me. :D Until we here from Uatu, that puts me in last. Just where I need to be to get motivated.

Well, it's not exactly as if you could write about what you enjoy when you're paid for it. That would be to good to be true. ;)
