Re: New Icons!

So, I've mentioned it on the cetaceans thread, but I did a new blue whale icon. :) Basically, my budding amateur biologist is getting the best of me... (I was going to do more detail, but... I got tired!)

Hmm... Would a blue whale really attack with its mouth? You definitely should change that to an attack with the dorsal fin!!!
:D :D :D

Just kidding! Great work! :) I wonder how you are going to use it.
It would generally be interesting to see the largest DC icons ever and how they were/are used in the respective designs - e.g. in the newsletter planned by Manikus...

Ha ha - you are right, there is no real reason for the blue whale to open its mouth... but it aesthetically looked better that way.

As for how I will use it, well - I like to give choices to the player, so although baleen whales will not be aggressive to the PCs, the PCs still have the option to attack (there may be repercussions for that). Basically, this is why I do various normal animals who will probably not attack (badgers, owls, swordfish, etc.).

Another option is to have the blue whale appear on the "good" side in a battle (perhaps the party will help the blue whale fend off some megalodons or something).

Finally, if DC ever gets a "conjuration" function, perhaps it could be used in the Conjure Animals spell (if not, we could still have an enemy (high-level) Illusionist or Cleric cast this spell underwater and summon a whale). Animals conjured by this spell basically attack the cleric's or illusionist's enemies unfailingly, but the duration of the spell is only 2 rounds/level (of course, in our case, I am not sure if we can reproduce this effect).

As a cleric/illusionist can only summon animals up to HD of their own level, we would of course require a cleric/illusionist of level 48 or so (how ever many HD you want to assign the blue whale) to summon one underwater :D

The last idea can be used for many of my other animal icons; the spell can summon any of the following:

Whales
Mammoth
Hippopotamus
Lion
Bear, Brown
Weasel, Giant
Boar, Wild
Wolf, Dire
Flightless Bird
Badger

...and so on. Basically, any mammal (including prehistoric) from the Monster Manual, plus flightless birds, giant owls, giant eagles, axe beaks were specified in the DMG already; I would also add any mammals from MMII as well (no reason to keep them out).

This is easy enuff to reproduce now (creatures have a time limit then they die).

ST
ps, I'm hoping if I can prove that my CPU is clean then I can show off my scripts

Cool, that sounds fairly easy to do, then :D

Re: New Icons!

I have altered some of my icons (changed martens to humans/elves).

Maybe the latter are interesting for Manikus?

It is quite easy to alter my old icons, so I can post more... :)

Ooh, nice icons! :D I really dig the sorceress with the twinkling robe, looks really fancy :) The friar is pretty cool, too.

I should add that I wouldn't mind if anybody removed the "swoosh" and "hit"-effects from my icons when using them for his/her design.

These are awesome! I may take out some of the special effects, but I will definitely use these. :)
