"I think I could find my way back if I was allowed to lead" says the book.

"Can we remove your pages for ease of travel, or are they an integral part of you?"

"I would be wary about pulling pages out of a spellbook" Says the book.

"Alright. Then we'll just take you with us like this. You're not getting a body just yet." Ransel turns to the rest of the party to check with them.

Aldyne

A look of doubt upon his face, Aldyne turns away, thinking. After a few moments he turns to Ransel. "I'm not sure about this book," he says. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to take it along, but to listen to what it says..." He turns to the Mage. "Is there any way to know if it tells the truth? Or," he says, regarding the book, "is there any way you can prove that what you have said is true?"

"That this abomination follows Set is all we need to know, nothing it says is to believed" says the old mage.

"I'm the victim here" says the book, "all I want is a normal life back."

Aldyne

"Well, I will bow to the majority," Aldyne says, discomfort clearly showing on his face. "But I do not like it we are to take it along."

"Besides screaming up loud, he can't do anything, can he? I mean, cast a spell or something.." Ransel asked just to be sure. If he was going to take the book, he wanted to know just waht he was taking with him.

"Actually", says the old mage "there is a real possibility that he can cast verbal only cleric spells, if he is indeed a cleric. In fact, it could be a large part of the reson his lips were sealed."

"The way I see it, it's in it's best interest to keep us alive untill he gets a new body. If he proves good enough in our mission, I think we should return here and give him his body. Meanwhile, it'd do good to" Ransel turns to the book "cooperate. This means you tell us of things like traps, soldiers and clerics. Alright?"

The book smiles "I will tell you everything I know, you can trust me!"

"Well", says Captain Merlo, "who wants to carry the book?"

Aldyne

"Not me," says Aldyne. "Even if it can't harm me, I would have destroyed it within the first couple of days, going mad from it's ramblings."

"I'll carry it." Ransel swallows a lump. Waiving the matter, he asks "When can we leave?"

Captain Merlo says "There isn't much else to do in town, you can leave anytime, if you know where you want to go."

"Where do we want to go, anyway?"

The old mage speaks, "Well, I have something in the oven". He departs the room back the same door he came in from.

The Captain says "We could go see if the prisoner has revealed anything".

"That's a good place to start." Ransel says, looking behind the odd mage leaving the room.

The book says to Ransel "Make sure you carry me face foward so that I can see where I am going!"

You leave the boat and docks and head to the main guard compound. Captain Merlo asks you to wait in the main lobby while he checks on the prisoner. He returns shortly.

"Unfortunately the prisoner died during interrogation, we believe from a slow acting poison he must have taken before the assassination."

"Before?" Ransel was a bit puzzled. "If he took a poison, why in the hells was he running away?.. An anti-poison? Payment? Does anyone else except the dead mage know where this temple is?"

"He probably would have been given the antidote had he gotten away clean" says the Captain, "The prisoner did make some statements before he expired, he implicated a certain Inn in Reddansyr, just to the east, called "the stairway down".

"Alright" Ransel says. "We go to Reddansyr. Maybe we could find something there."

Aldyne

"That would be the obvious place to go," Aldyne agrees. "I will at least continue in this search. Who where is still with us?"

OOC: Now we'll see how many still checks this thread.

"This matter has piqued my interest. I will follow it... for now." Ransel says.

It's fairly late in the day, the captain suggests you get an early start in the morning.

"Watch yourself, if it was that book they killed the mage for, they will try again I have no doubt."

(OOC: I check the thread, but I believe my char is still in the tavern... I'll try'n join up some way before the others leave)

OOC: this is for Gnarf.
IC: "Yes, I'll go back to the inn, get some sleep before we go on tomorrow."

"Good", says captian Merlo, "I won't be able to accompany you out of town, contact me as soon as you know something."

The party travels back in the Inn's common room, it is far empter than before, the ending of the storm has allowed the merchants to depart, and the recent murder seems to have kept the locals away, the sole occupant other than staff is an elf, heavily armed and armored, reading the posted messages on the bullitin board, he looks your way as you enter.

OOC: Everyone involved so far is awarded 1250 xp's, please level up your PC's.

OOC:Yay!! I'll get to it soon, I need a couple of minutes and I can't find my dice.
IC: Ransel closes to the elf and asks him "Do I know you?"

IC: The elf turns to regard approaching adventurer as he approaches. "No, I do not believe we have had the honour of meeting. I am Cienden. I have just arrived here today after a long journey and am in search of mercenary employment and adventure. A townsperson informed me of a large commotion at this inn earlier and directed me here. Perhaps you were here at that time by some chance? If not, I shall be on my way in search of other work.

A man in dark robes, carrying a blackwood staff walks in. Sitting at the bar he starts eyeing everyone in the bar.

Relaxing for the first time in the whole day, Ransel extends his hand in greeting and introduces himself.

After becoming somwhat aquainted with Ransel, Cienden invites him to have a quick drink with him. Cienden moves to the bar a few stools down from the man in the black robes. Eyeing him quickly up and down, he cocks his head to the side, smiles faintly and asks, "New to town?"

"You have the look of one not long for this world" the black robed man says in a low, hissing voice, and he turns back to his drink. What you saw of his face was strange, he looked almost reptilian.

Merago had been out for a while, and got back now to see if "all them adventurey looking folks" were back. He was pleased to see that they were. He walked, in a quite big circle around the man in dark, over to the party talked to one of them, "Say... you're questing 'bout that dead-mage thing by now, yup? D'you think anyone'd mind if I tagged along? I don't have, uhm... much to do around here nowadays, and it sounds like adventure."

OOC: Merago will probably talk to the one with the highest charisma score, the two best scores match each other he'll go for the shortest one. I dunno if Merlo's still with the group, but Merago won't talk to him anyway.

Ransel gets an idea and moves closer to the black robed man and tries to get behind him so the man doesn't see him. He crouches just a bit and grabs the edge of his robes, trying to lift them up a bit without the man seeing him.
OOC: I want to get a look at the man's feet. Take whatever check you see fit(hide, attack or pick pocket). I don't mean to steal I just want a look. If you think I shouldn't do this because I either don't know enough, or I didn't see his face then disregard this post. Did I see his face, because I think I did if I was walking with Cienden?

He is seated on a barstool, you can see his feet, they are in long leather boots, his hands are in gloves, but other than that he seems quite humanoid.

Raising an eyebrow at the sight of the man's face, he replies: "No offense, friend...".

Cienden thumbs a coin the bartender's way, turns, and leans back against the bar. He surveys the room and its occupants while taking a slow careful sip from his fresh tankard of ale, grimacing somewhat at the flavor of the human beverage; however, he never lets the man in black quite leave the corner of his eye while he is thinking rapidly about what he just saw.

Ransel casts a look at Aldyne trying to motion there's something about this man. He stands at the bar.
OOC: Does Aldyne need a motive check or something? I'm a rogue and I think I read somewhere I get a bonus on this sort of thing, but not sure.

The man is making a point of ignoring you, and his cowl is up hiding his face, the glimpses you get of it make you think he is not human, but more reptilian.
