I feel that at this point, the senate should clarfiy that the kobold is not, in any way, viewed as a race of civilised beings. They are animals* and as such have the rights to be eaten and to have their numbers kept in check. In no way is this comparable to the way many Calimshade visitors and immigrants are subjected to crude remarks and bias.
* It has been noticed the kobolds resemble a cross between dogs, rats, lizards and, from their occasional attempts at speech and bipedal walk, parrots. If not an animal, they are demons (as they have already been classified by some), or merely animals possessed by daemons*'. *' Why any daemon would possess a kobold-animal is beyond our experts' wildest guesses. |
Hear - hear
Those are wise words Legolas. Lets not turn the discussion to whether we can kill/eat human like beings. Kobolds are evil according to the Gods (they might be demons or possessed by birth (not likely - who wants to possess a kobold?)). Kobolds are breeding like rats and have a short lifespan (There are even rumours that say that in some areas they are created instantly). This is not a good basis for high intelligence for a race. Both the pubs, the female and the male kobolds are attacking everyone at sight. Until now, no one have seen a kobold city or other kind of societies (there has been rumours about an attempt of building up an artificial society for kobolds though, but it seems that the experiment went wrong). We need to keep the amount of kobolds down to a minimum to keep the Sword Coast a safe place to live. When killing the kobolds, we might as well use their carcasses for something usable (ex. food). we better get killing quick then. Anyway im about to become a bloody quintesson in a minute. Why did my reign as Emerald Dragon have to be so short! :cries: they should have made emerald dragon 300 posts instead of 100 when quintesson came out, then it would have only been 300 posts instead of 500!

Ate a Kobomelet today, tasted icky :( |
Well, Zuvio, the kobold, while not characteristically good tasting, is a cheap source of meat product that the peasantry can afford and therefore gain a more balanced diet. Think about it. Kobold reproduce rapidly so there will never be a shortage.

Aight... Although I'm in favorite of adding some spices to make it at little more bearable.... Some grinded Xvart bones mayhap? Or is this considered expanding your borders a bridge too far?! |
I dont think it is. I think that would be very tasty :D if we killed all of them we could go and take over there little villages and live in them. Or we could use those for POKW (prisoners of kobold war) camps where the kobolds have to live and do some useful things
|
Ross you are in danger of crossing the line. The senate must decide whether or not Xvart's are a civilization or wildlife. They appear to be civilized. They speak common, and have organized village structures, unlike kobolds who are trained to utilize crude tools to little effect. Kobolds also lack the ability to vocalize. They have been classified as food, but Xvart's are still in debate. By all means, feel free to defend yourself in the event of a hostile situation, but do not actively hunt Xvarts for food unless they are classified as such.
|
I suppose, but what use are they to Faerun? they dont do anything.

Ross you are making yourself the hitler of Xvart's should the Senate declare them a sentient civilized people, you will find yourself in a heap of trouble. They speak common, they exist in organized colonies, and they can be made peace with. One may have to cast the spell friends to successfully initiate dialogues, but it would likely become a cakewalk thereafter.

The do not attempt speech, they do it. We cannot understand a word what these beings are saying without magic. They are not animals nor demons either. The lowest class of a demon is an imp. Imps have a natrual ability to turn invisible and are known for their poisonus stings. Imps are more verstile than a kobold. AND if kobolds were possesed by demons the race would be more powerful. Demons are very intellgent creatures that rival and exceed our human intellgence. And I have heard that this issue is slowly turning to face Xvarts. I will do my best to protect their natrual rights just as I do with kobolds. |
To my esteemed colleague Sythe.
Allow me to begin by pointing out the current viewpoint on kobolds in not necessarily shared by any individual member of the senate, including it's chair. It has come about in what we believe to be a democratic manner, with the opinions of the many overruling the concerns of a few. Indeed, this is the only fair approach. Whilst there is a possiblity of your arguments having merit, a ruling has already been made at an earlier date. Senate policy has, as such, adapted to the point of view as was expressed by yours truely, several posts up the line. I am myself not interested in a further discussion to alter this decision, however, as any other member of the Senate you are free to reserve a place on the agenda, to present your case. If sufficient support can be mustered, I shall call for another voting where perhaps our classification of kobolds amongst the realm of the uncivilised may be amended. Until such time as the subject appears on the agenda, I would ask that you restrict any further words regarding this matter to areas and actions outside the discussion hall. On behalf of the Senate I thank you for your understanding. |
what about the xvarts?
|
Legolas, in view of recent discussion the Senate, it seems, must convene on the topic of Xvart's. Are they civilized people, or merely blue humanoid beasts? I consider them a civilized people myself, but I will stand with the decision of the Senate.

ha ha ha ha j/k j/k *sigh* I understand I aplogize for bringing this already decided topic again. I shall rest my case of giving kobolds thier rights and such. Until as you said I have more support. But we are now talking about Xvarts aren't we? Shall there be a new thread? We have eight pages worth of discussion of kobold meals and such. It would not be appropiate if we are talking about Xvarts in a thread titled "Love the kobold, hate the kobold, eat the kobold, make up your mind...." |
we can only do that if the senate gives permission, so senate, are you going to give the go ahead for a xvart discussion?
|
*sighs and shakes head* I can see it now. In two weeks, it'll be: Love the Xvart, hate the Xvart, make the Xvart into crisps, chips, burgers and other things, make up your mind ...
Personally, I think that (and I'm sorry to say this is about kobolds as a civilized race) they are like us. We are "civilized" in some ways, and yet in others, we are little better than... something very uncivilized. To say barbarians would simply be unfair. Kobolds: they have a language, god, and villages. In my book, this makes them civilized. I know that I have said in perivious posts that I hate kobolds and want them dead. I'm sorry to say Sythe, that this is still true. I hate the sqeaky, yappy little..... But they are civilized. They need to be killed to keep the population down, otherwise they could become like humans: thinking that they rule the earth, and overpopulate and pioson our planet. *sighs again* But I know that in a minute I'll loose the plot and go over old ground. I mearly ask that we DO: say kobolds are civilized and should recive a formal appology after they are dead, and DON'T: eat them. Now: Firestormalpha, when do you want those flamethrowers delivered? |
Dragonshadow, what supports your theory on kobold language? Sythe's claims? That's rather naive of you. I'm shocked at the change of heart by one so intent on the kobold hunt not just too long ago.
Oh yeah, you can deliver the flamethrowers as soon as possible. [ 10-28-2003, 12:32 PM: Message edited by: Firestormalpha ] |

And I'm sure that they can understand each other's yips. If not, I belive they have a universal language: facial expressions. Oh yeah, I'll have the flamethrowers to you as soon as I can get them past customs. If you massorder today, you'll get a fluffy pink toy hippo. |
Kobolds. One of the main discussion perks of BG1 forum.
Pink fluffy hippos? Shouldn't we get pink fluffy gnolls? |
Or a pink fluffy gnoll, as you prefer.
|
Gnolls are like hippos.... They're territoral, they have big teeth, and they snort.
Less body hair, though. |
Yes... hippos...
Well, do you want to mass order or not? |
I'd like a hippo steak, yes :D Make that WITH ketchup and a toothpick
|
Errr... I acnt' get my hands on any hippos until I manage to get enough money to get a ticket to AFrica, fake my own death, fly out of the country, grab a hippo, come back, tell the wrold it was a misunderstanding, and that'll be in... 20 years time?
Here's your toothpick and ketchup though. |

Ketchup? This is Gnoll's blood! You just violated more laws than I can count, misterrr!!!! |
Zuvio!!! DS is not a Mister!! DS is a she, errr.... I mean a Miss. She also has the flamethrowers don't offend her!!
