Let me see if I can find the link to that site based in Aberdeen that you once posted. How will your reputation suffer then? ;)

I think I know which one you mean, Donut ;)
It's the first hit if you do a Google search with the two words...
Oooooh I submit and unreservedly retract my witty barbs. I will buy an extra bottle of malt as a penance (if I remember).

The longer you know someone, the better you know him/her. Besides, when you meeet someone in a bar, you are 'looking', consciously or unconsciously. In a chat room, you are saying 'I am lonely.' Here, you are saying, ' I am interested in RPG's, and that is about it.' How endangering is that?
You are so correct, Attalus, and this is an important point. A person who is a faker can only keep the sham up for only so long. That's why "pervs" who visit chatrooms must act quickly; they can only fool people, even kids, for the short run. Sooner or later they inadvertently tip their hand and are found out. So they put on the pressure on their "victims" to meet them in RL pretty soon on; or rush romances if they are conning an adult.

If someone has consistently acted in a manner for a long term period, say over several months, and has not deviated from that, you can be pretty well sure that's their basic personality. That's not to say they don't have some deep dark secrets that they haven't divulged (who doesn't have secrets?) but they're probably not a creep or a jerk, at the least. Even a maniac with a lot of charm is going to drop the mask at an inopportune moment, and then you see the strings holding up the marionette. Trouble is, of course, you don't know how long it takes, but you'll probably know immediately when it does happen.

I think Charean already pointed out that I told her I would never have approached her IRL. Her looks would have kept me away.
Charean is a very attractive woman. I tend to scare old people, children, animals, ... You get the idea. IRL, I would never have approached her, since I feel i would have scared her off.

On the IW forums, we were able to get to know each other, passively at first. We saw how we acted towards others. We got each others viewpoints, on many subjects, just by reading each others posts.

When we began chatting, we were able to get more details. It was about ideas and emotions, not just looks. :D

Most folks do it backwards, I think. They are attracted to someone's looks, and they try to fall in love with the personality.

In our case, I fell for a person, who just happens to be beautiful.

If you're worried about spending too much time on IW you could try a version of an experiment that's used as exposition of the evils of TV.

Sit down to watch a bunch of programs (or in this case check IW) and say that you will do it for an hour or more. Have a friend or relation take an alarm clock or timer and set it for some time greater than a half an hour and less then your set time. You won't know how much time is on the timer. It's important. When the alarm sounds ask yourself: "Did I feel really alive right then?" You should get an interesting range of answers and justifications.

Personally I think IW is very healthy. If I get stuck on a problem in a game I get really frusterated. I can get annoyed at the game or become distracted at work. IW relieves a great deal of stress. :D

And in my rather short time here I've never felt that awful internet feeling that people are being pompous idiots because they can hide behind their keyboards.

Well I'm going to say two major things.

First I am going to answer the question of the thread.
HELL YEAH ITS HEALTHY!!!! :D :D No problems here. Other people can bite me. ;)

Next I have to say how people my age would react to these things.
I'm 15, and people my age seem to be bent on dividing up their peers into groups, such as "the preps", the cool people. If your not like them, then your a loser and they don't want to have anything to do with you. These are the guys who spend $700 in a A&F store for two shirts and a pair of pants. These are also ussually the people who have a IQ of 10, and if you are smart then you are obviously a nerd and are a loser. I doubt they could spell RPG let alone even understand it. I'm also sure that if you said AD&D then they would take their finger and thumb and make the letter L.

Ironworks would be the advirse to everything they believe in. We have intellegence, and its based on RPGs. They can't understand why someone would sit around in the house all day long and talk to "losers" they don't even know. They would rather take every drug they can afford, ride their 4-wheelers into trees and smoke on the corners in the middle of town. I get along with most of the people in my grade, but not ussually these "preps." Most of my friends understand, and some of them are even on IW. Most of my friends are also considered "cool" and they consider me as "cool" but the "coolest", "the preps", can go to hell. Who cares on who is cool and who isnt anyway??

I don't even spend that much time on the computer, or inside, and I am refered to as a loser, nerd, and many other names by the "coolest people".

But who cares?? Just because they have the IQ of a cow, and hate everyone who is smarter than they are, who cares?? Let them fry their brains with their drugs, and kill themselves by drinking when they are in 9th grade.

There, ummm... did that make any sense to the rest of you??
Well regardless of the fact of who understood it, that is my two cents put into the thread.

It boils down to----Who cares what other people think. Do what you want to do.
