the intro movie to FF8 is one of my all time favourites, and all the movies for that game are good. Warcraft III and WCTFT movies are excellent too - I particually liked the Illidan one. I can't really remember any other movies I've really liked. The starcraft ones were good too.

Yeah.. all the Warcraft had good intro movies.
Warcraft One was pretty good for its time, and two was almost revolutionary. |

And warcraft III 's cinematics are cool too. |
The intro movies for Thief 1 and 2 were great. It's all in that heavy die-hard music ;)

I think you all need to witness the utter perfection of Halo 2. Try here and scroll down to the demo trailer.
After your jaw falls off, and you manage to rehinge it, then you can thank me :D |

Ok, I can't believe no one has said this, but...Half-Life.
I'm not much of an action gamer, but no other game I've ever played has such an immersive intro. By the end of it, I had an extraordinary clarity about just how deep underground I/Gordon was. When everything went wrong, I had a very real desire to get the heck out of Dodge, swiftly followed by a feeling of dread and horror as I wondered how the f**k I was supposed to get myself all the way back up through that miserable mountain. I usually don't that get from action games, but imo, that's the function of an intro movie-- to make you care about the circumstances of the game. HL did a good job of it. It was like being inside a disaster movie. The intro for Quake 2 was also pretty good in giving me a sense of "You are very much alone, soldier. All of your colleagues and support ships have been creamed. And you're trapped inside the enemy's home ground. Good luck living." Found the game itself pretty boring, but I did like the intro of "massive assault gone horribly wrong, and only I remain". And no such thread would really be complete without mentioning the intro film for the Omaha Beach level of MoH:AA, which was incredible both for itself, and for its recreation of the film scene from which it was lifted wholesale. |
ff9 opening was animated so well and it had melodys of love in it so imo it dont get no better.

A few years ago, there was a game called
"Sanitarium" and it was all about a guy waking up in a mental institution with no understanding of who he is or why he's there. The opening sequence is in gritty black and white slip shots, of a car careening out of control down a California highway in the driving rain before crashing over the guard rail. It's very cool, very Hitchcockian. If you can find the game, I highly recommend it. [ 10-24-2003, 01:50 PM: Message edited by: KDogRex ] |
