C'mon Zor have at me! You may as well dig in....

One ANGRY lil' man 01-05-2001 10:11 PM

Yorick you make no sense. This IS A FANTASY GAME alright. And beyond that I believe like under the description of the weapon "Faith Killer" In IWD Clerics are just mages. Yorick, as we argue the realism of the game lets see Ogres are realistic so are Elves yup 1200 year life span we see that in normal life, You did say that "Magic sux. Like it's REALLY believable. Worst part of the game for me. Yeah, like I see people spurting flame form their fingertips or summoning skeletons all the time." and for that matter you said "Stupidist thing is Clerics. Priests can't cast spells. Oh that's right. They're MIRACLES. What I don't get is how come people die in Faerun? I mean why doesn't EVERYBODY take their mates down to the temple to get raised?" Well, yes raising should cost ALOT more. And those who die of old age can only be raised to die again. Yes, Bards are gay.

I think the idea of an RPG with a very limited amount of magic and magic weapons would be quite enticing. I think that the way Tolkien's world had magic, but never outright (no one ever shot a fireball from their bare hands) is really interesting as well. I feel that there are too many magic weapons in the D&D world. Granted, it is sometimes neccessary to have many items in order to keep the game interesting. But i think that magic items should be very rare. For instance, in Tolkien's series he has the Sword of Anduril, Glamdring, Orcrist, and Sting. Beyond those it is difficult to think of any more "magic weapons" that are in Middle Earth. Even Gimli and Legolas, two very important characters in the book used regular weapons. To me this makes them all the more valuable. When every two bit thief can walk around with at least a short sword +1, it kind of downplays the instances in which you get a magic weapon. In retrospect, i think that the basis for these fantasy games should be more based around the "heroes" of the story, and not the items that they acquire in order to fulfill their goals.

Hey Choas... it is true that there a major loads of artifacts in bg2 but your should have tried bg1 first... i never knew that there was any longswords or shortswords +1 or +2 until my bro showed them to me (and it is so hard to find those things.. heck i didnt even see there was a cave hidden and i mean HIDDEN behind those bushes) if you want that kind of game wherein there are very little magical items then play bg1

*note though Chaos* i mildly agree with you that magic should not ALWAYS come out with just you plain energy... bg2 creators should have place some herbs of different kinds so that you still have to make potions, or some incantation before the MAGIC happens like in true D&D rpg...

wow... so many replies and so many people going aganst you Yorick... are you sure you want me to be one?? i think you seem to have more than enough in your hands right now (besides im locked up with an interesting book right now: called HARRY POTTER and i just finished the second book today... heh i started reading book one yesterday ... i told you guys im an avid reader) i have a question before you answer... hmm... i noticed that some of the replies of Rickard as well as other people in this post have similar arguments with mine... yet i dont understand how come you were able to answer back at them?? (just wonderin)...

next in my question list for you Yorrick boy is that i dont know whether or not i can even understand you ... well the last reply anyway... one moment you are totally againt magic and then you say there is magic in things like that and then back to vice versa... its really so confusing you know... (hey i only had 6 hours of sleep last night and i usually have 8-10 hrs so my mind is quite fuddled, muddled as well as "cant think clearly mode" right now)

there is only one thing i understand though and i can answer that "BARDS ARE NOT GAY" (for me anyway) hehe... (heck i cant argue right now... just have a nice snooze later tonight... not now or else i cant sleep later and i have entrance test for college, wish me luck)

Bahamut 01-06-2001 04:33 AM

hey I study in Xavier School ... if you wanna know...

hmm... hey Rickard i like your messages... so short and sweet... and right to the point... (hey dont mistake me for liking your meaning of the post but how you posted it...)
