I've yet to play PnP D&D (got into CRPG's a year ago by playing EverQuest), but it was through PnP D&D that I met my current husband, Tim!
About 15 years ago, Tim lived in the apartment under my mother's (I lived on my own, I was in college at the time). Tim became good friends with my younger brother (who still lived with Mom), and they both started a long-running D&D group with other guys in the neighborhood. Tim had been a DM since high school, and he DM'ed this group as well. I would visit my Mom during breaks from college, and Tim spotted me through his apt. window while he and my brother were playing D&D. My brother was too involved in the game to notice that Tim was staring out the window http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif Tim asked my brother if he knew who I was, but by the time my brother looked up, I was gone (I had no idea that I was being watched). So Tim had no clue who this "mystery girl" was. On another day, Tim spotted me again, and again my brother was too involved in the game to notice. This time Tim stopped staring soon enough to tell my brother "There's that girl again! Look!" Of course, once my brother looked up, I was gone again. Then Tim heard the door to my mom's apartment above him open and close. "She's in your apartment!" Tim yelled. "Go up there and find out who she is!" My brother ran upstairs, and returned to Tim shortly afterwards. "Well, who *is* she?!?", Tim asked. My brother snarled at Tim and said "She's *my* sister!" (read as: you're my friend, but I ain't lettin' you put the moves on my sis). "Well, introduce me to her!" Tim pleaded. My brother refused. Then Tim decided to hit my brother where it would hurt http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif - in the game. Tim was a naughty DM for the following two weeks. Put my brother's character through all kinds of torment. Every time my brother would plead for mercy, Tim would say, "Well, if you'll just let me meet your sister..." I'm proud my brother lasted as long as he did http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif So, Tim finally won out, and was introduced to me http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif |
I was a lurker until I had to reply to this post! My DAD was the dungeon master to my brother, me and two other friends when I was 10. Played Wizardry and everything else I could get a hold of since. BG2 is killing me though - to bad I have to work for a living! Now my dad, brother and I play BG2, but since he is now retired - he is on his third time thru.

-sigh of relief- I thought you were talking about something else. XP -cough- Anyway, I was in the computer store and picked up Baldur's Gate II, bought it, then got freaked out and didn't play it for a while. Then one day I said to myself "I'm going to play this," and now, I'm hooked. =]

I didn't really get into roleplaying until high school. Some of my friends played D&D and I joined in. None of us really knew what we were doing at first so it made for some interesting times. After high school we all went our seperate ways and I didn't play D&D at all for about 5 years. I got back into it after BG1 got me hooked. I've since gone out and bought most of the 3rd edition books and am now Dming a Forgotten Realms campaign. After tomorrow I will have played three games in two weeks.

25 years ago a teacher gave me the Hobbit and I was hooked, unfortunately I was a jock and neither group were there for me so I started as a closet DNDer. My lust was finally quenched when I entered the military and found DND junkies like myself. Marriage, kids, moves and the computer have long since ended my PNP days but I will always remember and cherish the friendships that were made during those days, they have been my most steadfast friends to this day no matter were they have gone.
A friend turned me to BG and this web site and the flame has been rekindled. I would like to thank all for the warm welcome and am glad to be back in the fold. Quote:
For those of you who have not experienced the Rocky Horror Picture Show you are missing something special similar to Excalibur a real classic. [ 06-22-2002, 03:42 PM: Message edited by: Tomas Darknite ] |
Well, when I was 13 or so. My sister's friends introduced me to D&D.

Both my parents are gamers. I was born into it. They kept me with them at games untill I was 8, at which time they bought me my own books, my own dice, and let me play. By the time I had the books, I had already memorized the rules.... I started GMing for people two to four times my age by 10. I loved it. Now, I run two to three games a week, if I can.

I have never played PnP D&D but I got into AD&D by accident.
I was playing Diablo and Diablo II and was looking for a game similar that I could just play with my mouse, you know, with the keyboard mapping, you are looking for the correct key to press and zap you're dead. So I bought Baldur's Gate and started to play that and I was hooked, line and sinker. I bought ToSC, then Baldur's Gate II SoA, Icewind Dale etc etc I have also gone backwards and bought the older CRPGs such as PlaneScape Torment, Pools of Radiance etc. I have recently discovered a D&D shop by where I work and have just bought the Dark Elf Trilogy by R A Salvatore and The Summoning by Troy Denning. I felt a little bit daft at my age going into the D&D shop but they were very helpful (I am 45 and female). I don't know anyone who actually plays PnP games, so I feel a little lost when everyone goes on about all the books and stories etc, like it is actual folklore, so I thought I would try and learn. Still don't understand the rules properly though, but the computer does it for you so hey.. My boyfriend, daughter and all my mates at work think I am sad. But they think EastEnders and Coronation Street are good, so who am I to argue. I am addicted though, I have a G4 Apple Mac and I cannot get enough games for that so I have just bought a PC which I had made specially for gaming. I have even rebought BGII SoA and Icewind Dale just so I can have Throne of Bhaal and Heart of Winter/Trials of the Luremaster. I have cleared out my spare room and it is now an official computer games room. Lady Zidane |
