Technically yes, you can, but you have a better chance of simultaneously striking the lottery, have a beautiful girl/guy fall into your lap and have world peace.

Erm... considering the fact that one can use Wands (namely the Wands of Fodder & Cloudkill), Potions (for both offensive and defensive purposes!) and Quick Slot Items in these zones, i'm quite sure the chances are a bit higher.

With no means to lower their MR, most wands and potions are useless. And anybody who tells me that 5 Gnolls can take on what's in there is gonna get this smiley in reply...

Oh... did I mention that they can see through Invisibility?

5 Gnolls can take 5 at least punches. ;) And the Wand of Cloudkill is not to be overlooked. Stacking Clouds is a mighty tactic.

Besides... i think that if you're quick enough, you can actually cast something from a scroll. So you can do the boring-but-may-work "enter room, cast spell from a scroll, exit room, enter room, ..." routine.

On the other hand, Alson, entering the room, and letting yourself "go with the flow" has its charms as well.. it's always funny to see cows dropping from the heavens

Heh... actually, we're discussing Dead Magic zones, not Wild Magic ones. ;) But seeing cows dropping from the sky is fun, nevertheless! :D

Not really sure which dead-magic area you're talking about here, but couldn't a sorcerer simply prebuff with the right spells before going through the portal and act as a fighter? I'm sure Tenser's Transformation and Energy Blades goes a long way, and you could always step out when you run out of blades, no?

Watcher's Keep, TOB, has some zones where magic will become wild surges resulting in one of the MANY wild surge effects. Fun, but annoying.

IIRC, Dead magic zones remove buffs as well, including Energy Blades.

Leslie 03-24-2003 04:05 PM

There are some cheesy boots in the Tactics mod that prevent that.

Gangrell 03-24-2003 04:06 PM

The only dead magic zones I've ever been in are the ones on the Maze level in Watcher's Keep. Are there anymore in the game?
