Re: New Icons!

Lets see, I need about 100 small pics, 25 to 30 icons, 50 or so backdrops, 50 or so walls (including doors and overlays), 5, maybe 6 indoor combat sets and 3 outdoor sets, a dozen or so big pics and 35 to 40 sprites. Oh, and about 25 different spell sets (each set is 3 pics or more - casting, in-route and coverage). :D

What is that? About 3 or 4 times the amount of all the art I have on my site, plus a whole lot more? :)

Yeesh! 100... But when you think about it, I guess you do need more small pics than anything else for a game... (And here I am churning the icons out :D )

How do you divide usage of small pics and sprites? They are sort of similar in terms of usage (encounters), I think...

I gotta do more spells, too...

Re: New Icons!

I pick sprites for encounters that do not happen at a specific location - like I will use a sprite of the city watch to run into when I'm walking aournd the city, but I'll use a small pic when I'm at a particular building. That is what I will do most of the time, anyways. :)

Hmm - I see, that makes sense :) Good idea, maybe I will use it! (But then I will have to make gobs of sprites... yagh.)

When you use sprites, do you use small pics, too (some Gold Box games did that)? I.e., the sprite comes close and then goes into a small pic...

Re: New Icons!

I haven't done that, but I've thought about it. I would use it in the situation where the PC/party runs into an important NPC.

Hmm - Champions of Krynn did the sprite -> small pic thing, but one other I was playing (Savage Frontier?) just used small pics. As that option is easier for the artist, I have opted for that for now... :D

Re: New Icons!

I personally think that sprites are easier to do, b/c there's no backdrop to worry about and for humans/demihumans/goblinoids, most of the sprite is exmpty. :D

Backdrop? What's that? :D

Yeah, I guess for smaller creatures sprites are easier (by virtue of size), although one still has to do three images - will think about that a bit :)

Re: New Icons!

By backdrop, I meant everything in the small pic that is not the character or creature.

Also, a lot of the sprites I use are only one frame. :) It's the up-close one, but one frame is quite workable for bumping into people in a city.

Re: New Icons!

Yeah, sorry, I was kidding (I usually just take my paint bucket and fill to make instant backdrop :D ).

Hmm - one frame sprites, eh? That does sound easier...
