What a great film! I havn't seen it in years. You just don't get 'em like that anymore. My wife had never seen it. That's downright sinful!

philip 12-24-2004 07:09 AM

Had a lot of fun at a party yesterday. Though I'm a little bit hungover now. Had some really funny moments. We were cycling home and had to wait at a traffic light, but no cars crossed so I and one of my friends ran it. So we look back and the other is just urinating on the middle of the pretty large roundabout (Hofplein :D )

Ivelliis 12-24-2004 07:42 AM

Hey all *waves*
Back from my 2 week holiday in Florida, had some weird weather. First day, boiling hot (well, my standards of boiling hot, and I'm from England ;) ), few days later frost on the morning.
Did the usual stuff. Rides, lots of cheap clothes, etc. Had fun.
Bit tired though.

I got a question for anyone who knows about computers. I got this download icon on my desktop for Worms Armageddon. I suddenly fancied playing it. I cancelled the download because I realised it would take hours, and I tried to delete the icon and it says it's in use. Nothing is running I don't think, any advice how to get rid of it?
Cheers :D

philip 12-24-2004 08:25 AM

Ivelliis try in safe mode or via DOS. I think you need to be completely in DOS but you can try with DOS-prompt first. But safe mode is probably easiest.

Coincidentally, I was on my way back from town yesterday, and just where the bus stopped at a bus stop, there were 2 drunks in a hotel car park. They both urinated right in the middle of it, great.

Cycling while drunk? *shudders* :D

Pretend your talking to someone who doesn't have a clue about DOS.

Ok, no need to pretend :D

Could you tell me what to do, pretty please with a cherry on top?

philip 12-24-2004 08:49 AM

It's most fun if it's one of your friends and that he manages to do something stupid everytime. Last year he was photographed on a toilet while throwing up and his parents had to be called to get him home. This year he does this. And we had some friends on a phone as well so a lot of people are going to hear it

I didn't think the cycling was too bad. The wind blew in the right direction only the last few kilometres it was bad. Also because I had to cycle that alone. But well it's better to spend your money on beer than on a taxi.

wellard 12-24-2004 08:50 AM

Well Its Christmas now down here in OZ. So I would like to wish you all in the cafe a very merry christmas :D

The bad news is that Martin (my son) has spent Christmas eve in hospital. Both kids have had a stomach bug / runs these lasty few days but Martin was dehydrated beyond our our help. The good news is that they are now both home and tucked up in bed. I'm sure the morning will find them both able to open there presents

RoSs_bg2_rox 12-24-2004 08:56 AM

And what did Santa bring them this year? Did they get that keyboard?

It doesn't really feel like Christmas time here for me for some reason, hopefully it picks up tommorrow (christmas day )

Ivelliis 12-24-2004 09:04 AM

Same here Ross. I came back and someone said to me "are you excited?"
I was like "erm, about what?"
I know what I Santa has brought me, cause I was there when my parents bought it
Safe mode. You have to press some button on startup. I think it was F8 but I'm not sure.

I only know how to get in DOS in WinME and below. With a boot floppy and choose start without CD then. Then use cd .. till there's only c:/ at the prompt. Now type cd /windows/Desktop then do del filename. The filename will probably in 8 characters max. So you want to type dir to see what it is called. This might not be so in WinXP or if you have different desktops setup. Then the desktop will be in /windows/profiles/..../Desktop ... is your username. Hope that's clear. Be careful, don't delete anything you don't know and only do it if you're really sure you got the right thing. Hope this helps

I looked on Help and Support, it said F8. I restarted computer and nothing came up saying "Press F8 for blah blah blah"

I'll try the DOS thing.

andrewas 12-24-2004 09:53 AM

Theres no prompt for the F8 menu, you just have to hit it at the right moment. The right moment is about 1/2 a second long, and comes at the end of the POST check. Start hitting F8 when the memory test is done and keep hitting till you get the menu.

Attalus 12-24-2004 10:21 AM

Good morning, all. Merry Christmas Eve, and Wellard, glad your son is back home and safe. Give 'em a hug for me.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-24-2004 12:49 PM

Hey guys,
It's nice to come into the cafe out of the driving rain. It's miserible out there. Well, I get a bit of time to relax before heading out for Christmas eve service. How DOS things go here!?

Ivelliis 12-24-2004 01:25 PM

Finally! I deleted it using dos.
After experimenting with so many things I figured out I needed speech marks around the file location :D

I'm so proud of me!

Attalus 12-24-2004 01:33 PM

Congrats, Ivellis. I usually have to wait for my son to get here for the holidays to do stuff like that for me.

Xen 12-24-2004 02:23 PM

Hi all. I just came back from the cinema. I watched National treasure. It was pretty Indiana Jones like.

Stormymystic 12-24-2004 03:08 PM

we are going to be leaving soon I think, the roads up here are still pretty nasty, but further down it is supposed to be clear. so we should be alright *crosses fingers* anyway, hope to see you all after christmas

and Wellard, glad your kids are home and doing better

stupid typos :/

Evening, all. Gotta go do my dishes for Christmas dinner: green bean casserole (contains NO canned soup), creamed onions, and French onion soup.

Ladyzekke 12-24-2004 08:34 PM

Happy Christmas Eve to all, and for some Merry Christmas (cause it's over already LOL). I always like Christmas Eve, all my decorations are up in the house, I have so many lights, and shelves with lighted Christmas houses, and battery powered crystal lighted ornaments, I go insane LOL. I just love colored lights is what it is LOL. It's cold as hell outside, but it's nice and warm inside So I'm feeling comfortable and serene this Christmas Eve.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-24-2004 11:19 PM

Well what be sitting here at the cafe? Better get home with the family! I'm really only posting to share my new sig!

Bungleau 12-24-2004 11:32 PM

Nice new sig, Variol

And Wellard, glad to hear that Martin's back home and ready for tomorrow. It's no fun being there, and I'm sure he will enjoy the morning's... activities... :D

Christmas eve is at an end here... had close friends over this afternoon for fun, food, and gifts, then church service in the late afternoon. Our church has a children's sermon, and there were easily more than 60 kids who went up for it -- I was looking around for the pied piper!

Midway through it, someone apparently leaned against the stand holding the advent candles and nearly knocked it over. Ever hear several hundred people go "whoooooaaaaa...." at the same time? Woke me right up, it did

Then 'twas time for Christmas Eve dinner, which at our house is a fondue with beef, shrimp, and scallops (at least, this year). The scallops disappeared first; I managed to snag three of 'em before my daughter wolfed them down. Steak and shrimp lasted throughout the meal, and I foresee shrimp fried rice in someone's future!

Then our family gift tradition... opening your new pajamas on Christmas Eve. My wife liked hers but thought they were too big; I countered that they were the smallest size they had. After trying them on, though, they actually fit very well, and she's happy.

My daughter got a princess-like pajama with a furry frilly chemise-like thing that she wears on top, and a basic nightgown with toule and other stuff. You can tell that I'm very knowledgable about this kind of stuff :D

My son got a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle jammie, and he was tickled pink. He figured that it made him a ninja turtle... ;)

And me? My wife got me what I wanted, which is basically a long pants pajama bottom with no open fly. She even got it in my size -- XL. Unfortunately, I think it's really a XXXL, and not only is it huge on me, I think that either my wife or both kids could get inside it with me without any problem! Needless to say, I get to go exchange it for something a little more *ahem* appropriate.

And the morning brings the bright and cheery voices of the kids (I'm thinking positively, now) and the climax to all this anticipation. I think they'll be happy, and I think Santa got my wife a couple of things she really wanted as well...

With that, and a long post over, Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night.

wellard 12-25-2004 12:31 AM

Thanks for the wishes (and hugs) Martin has kept his Christmas dinner down and apart from being very tired (like mum and dad) he has managed to have fun with all his new toys .... Thought he would somehow

Ross Yes they did get a Yamaha electric piano. Sounds good too *not to loud*

And Santa brought me the last extended cut installment of LOTR

*puts some beer on ice for this evening / grin *

Sounds pretty much perfect!
I was thinking of the fondue thing yesterday too, since we've done it in the past. But maritimes are, well, I don't know, but KFC won out. :(

I understand it's one of the busiest days of the year at the theatre. Dad takes the kids to the movie to get them out of moms hair, while she makes dinner.

Xen 12-25-2004 07:42 AM

Hi all. I just ate lunch. Does anyone have a suggestion what to do?

I used to work E.R. every Christmas. Lots of loot, but now I have a family. ;)

Dron_Cah 12-25-2004 12:58 PM

Heh, my sister has to work today, too. She works at a hospital, so we told her going in sick was a bad idea. the problem is, it being Christmas, she may get fired for calling off. Oh well, hopefully she gets out early and doesnt spread the illness around. BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Stormymystic 12-25-2004 02:41 PM

we made it back safely, wish I couls say the same for some folks on the roads :( we saw one car where they had to use the jaws of life to remove the driver. saw a Jag with the rear end totaled on the way down there last night. but kids had a good time, now we have to finish it off with my family  who are just now wrapping their gifts, so we have not picked them up yet.

Attalus 12-25-2004 03:03 PM

Will got up late (10:00 A.M., so we got to sleep until 9. Turkey and most sides are done, only the prime rib and Brussels sprouts Cockaigne to go, now. Whew, my back is killing me.

Xen 12-25-2004 03:07 PM

I hope you will be better Attalus. I am thinking what to solo through SOA/TOB. I want something powerful...

SomeGuy 12-25-2004 04:37 PM

Woo, what a night last night was. My nieces and nephews sure were a handful. Mason's a little ball of fire I swear. He spent the entire time running his new to car around in a circut through the kitchen into the living room, into the kitchen, into the living room, crash. My brother and I started wrestling, he got beat of course, being so weak compared to me... Okay so he put my in a headlock and gave me a wedgie... anyway, this morning was cool. Got everything I wanted. A Nintendo DS and Call of Duty Finest Hour for my Gamecube and some new clothes. Life is good... cept for the fact we won't be visiting Grammy til tomorrow, her pipes froze up. :( Hope everyone else is enjoying their holiday!

philip 12-25-2004 05:10 PM

Had a lot of fun today. My nephew was really priceless. I (17) was talking with him, my brother (16), my parents, my uncle and my grandpa. It was about chocolate. Suddenly he says like 'I read about a research on chocolate too, it's supposed to make a woman who eats it sex live a lot better' LOL he's 10 or 11 years old :D

Attalus 12-25-2004 05:13 PM

"Sex live?" You mean 'love sex?'

wellard 12-25-2004 06:38 PM

Sex life is my guess.

I hope your back is better Attalus. Was it hurt through eating to much chocolate? ;)

Well boxing day is Birthday for my wife Carolyn. She got some books and DVD from the kids and luggage from me. The fact that the luggage contained a plane ticket and spending cash for a shopping trip down to Melbourne for the New Year sales was the best bit. She has lost so much weight recently (17kilos-3stone) that she needs a new wardrobe. So I guess me babysitting while she fly's to Australia’s best shopping areas was a just reward :D

Ilander 12-25-2004 07:29 PM

...Well, Merry Christmas from the blue-grass ya'll.

I'm here at my mother's house in Northern KY...and jeez, it's STILL unpassable in many spots...the main highway around here looks like an arctic baja course...we got a flat yesterday, and then driving home over said road, we bent the rim on the spare :(

Got home at about four this morning, went to sleep, and had a in general lousy day...but I love my family, even if they do have trouble all the doggone time.

Peace out, homies! It'll be another week before my next post! :D
