Thanks; not being a fan I had no idea where that came from. :D

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 08:19 AM

hehe, you'd have thaught if i'd made it up i would have called my self "The god that became all powerful and conquered the world" or something to that effect

If i could change it now, i'd take one of two. Elhan's Accolade - Elhan, a cool chap in bg2, and a realy cool symphony X song, 'The Accolade' which means 'honor' basicly. So, put them togetehr, and it's a cool sounding name The other name i would use wouldbe Legionaire. I use that tag on Counter Strike, and that came from my favourite gun used to be a shotgun, and i read the name 'Leon' and 'Legionaire' somehow, and adopted the name.

I knew exactly where that came from, being a huge Metallica fan as a result of having 5 older brothers who control the stereo.

"spydar" I think I first read in one of those MYTH I.N.C. books (which are oh so entertaining and I highly recommend), but when I first came up with it I had completely forgotten about that. she's my alter-ego, originally a RIFTS character who later became a vampire over online RPG chat rooms, and then somehow morphed into an alien bounty-hunter/smuggler when I started writing my little sci-fi story. she changes as I change, and is everything I like about me, and nothing that I hate about me.

andrewas 12-18-2004 05:48 PM

Its my name. Plus, my initials. Had I intended to stick around for longer than it took me to fininsh Bg2 the first time, I'd probably have come up with something more interesting.

Q'alooaith 12-18-2004 06:14 PM

Shhh, don't tell anyone..

Q`alooaith

Depending on how you view dreams it's either my Astral self's name or just my overactive imagination running away with me..

Why did I pick it out? Because before I heard it in my dream for the first time I could not realy "hear" anything in my dream, sound was just a diffrent colour..

Now I dream in sterio baby yea..

Me = Weird/strange/odd

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-18-2004 06:29 PM

Thanks you 2. I appreciate the additions. I was curious about andrewas 'cos if you take out the "w" it's my name, Andreas. :D

How do you pronounce Q`alooaith?

Jorath Calar 12-18-2004 06:37 PM

Hmm,
I just noticed this old thread for the first time...

Jorath Calar was my first Forgotten Realms character... a human Ranger, bodyguard and lover of an Half elven mage/sorceress called Natalia (which another player in the group played, girl mind you... )).

After the group disbanded (we went our seperate ways after college) I kind of forgot it until 1999 when I discovered Baldurs gate 1, kind of resurrected him there with partly the same stats and used him to play through the whole BG saga...

Absynthe 12-19-2004 02:27 AM

I vaguely recall posting something about this about a hundred years ago...
Absynthe was a very popular drink in continental europe around the turn of the last century. It was an alcoholic beverage made with wormwood, which is a mild hallucinogen. Eventually it was banned for contributing to the downfall of society and promoting debauchery. Those being causes dear to my heart, I chose it as my name, which I use anywhere I go online.
At one time I considered going by Hedonist, but it seemed a bit sophomoric.

Arledrian 12-19-2004 04:12 AM

Arledrian is a random thief/fence in BG II. I don't really know why I picked it; I suppose it's because I've always played rogue characters, and the name kind of rolls off the tongue. At least, it does if your verbal IQ is of a reasonable standard (*cough* Ale-drain *cough*). I haven't played BG II in nearly three years now though. I guess a lot of us registered at Ironworks with poorly thought-out usernames, thinking we were only going to stick around to ask a quick question or two, but just look at us all, still goin' strong... man, are we hardcore or what?

Cerek 12-19-2004 04:39 AM

<font color=plum>As with most members, I originally joined the forum to find help with Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. This was the very first forum I joined, and since I was looking for advice on a CRPG game, I decided I should use an appropriate-sounding name.

My favorite PnP character was a barbarian (based on the 1st Edition <font color=white>Unearthed Arcana</font>), so I decided to use his name and registered as "<font color=red>Cerek the Barbaric</font>". <font color=yellow>Sazerac</font> made a wickedly cool sig to go along with that name for me.

Later, I asked if I could drop "the Barbaric" tag. I didn't get a response for a long time, so I just assumed the answer was "No". Then I got a PM not long ago asking if I still wanted to make the change. I had to reregister as part of the change. That is why "<font color=red>Cerek</font>" has only been a member since August 2004. ;)

Since the name is unique, I use it on any forum I visit.</font>

TheGodThatFailed 12-19-2004 07:22 AM

Maybe pointless post, but hey. Another tag i use is 'The First Dancing Turtle' which gets alot of confusion. It comes about from a band called 'Dream Theater'. My brother is a huge fan, and i am not. I am a dragonforce fan, and we have an ongoing battle on who we think is better. Now in a Dream Theater song, 'Metropolis Part 1' Their singer says a line that sounds EXATLY like 'Death is the first dancing turtle'. Now, being the anit-dream theater guy that i am, i just have to take the billy :D

Intrepid 12-19-2004 10:26 AM

I was reading some stuff at the time, and I came upon a book called "a man called intrepid", it was in my mind while I was trying to think of a username, nothing overly meaningfull behind the name, just I needed one to register, and here it is.

Xen 12-19-2004 10:35 AM

I was always wondering where a member called Indemajinj got his name.

Lavindathar 12-20-2004 11:03 AM

<font color="cyan">I just made mine up about 4 years ago to use on Baldurs Gate, and since then its jsut stcuk on every game I play.

Oh, and I made my brothers up too, but I robbed that off a case of wine my mum had downstairs.</font>

Maj 12-23-2004 03:02 AM

Oh I don't think I've posted about my username yet...

Okay the name Maj comes from when I was going through a identity crisis and for some weird reason wanted this name... if I knew I was going to hang around after asking help with my BG game I might have chosen something better... But you all know how it is joining your first forum and it wants your username and you can't think of anything…

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-23-2004 06:29 AM

Wow, I'm almost tempted to take a poll and see how many people came here, at first, just as a temporary thing. I've read it a lot in these posts.

theGrimm 12-23-2004 10:25 AM

theGrimm, taken from the phrase "the Grim Reaper". Inspired by Terry Pratchette's Reaper Man.

Most people get it wrong, though, and call me Grimm or The Grimm or the Grimm. Ah, well. Serves me right for being difficult.

Kestrel Daystar 12-23-2004 09:25 PM

My name has been with me for a while. It started out as the name of my main character in a novel I am writing, then it became my name for my character I use on BG I & II, Icewind Dale I & II, Neverwinter Nights, and really any other games I play on that allows you to have a character name.

Plus Kestrels are my favourite type of bird

Xan the Enchanter 12-23-2004 11:22 PM

PICK ME!

Hokay, my usual title:

PSI YAMANEKO= Yamaneko was mah kitty character in an online forum RPG based on Redwall. He was named after Lynx from Chrono Cross. XD And he was psychic. Yah. I mention this because if anybody sees me outside the Forgotten Realms gaming networks this is my name.

Now the one people care about

XAN THE ENCHANTER= Because "Xan" was taken. ((Who did that!? XAN DEMANDS RETRIBUTION! Or something.)) I always use "Xan" in the FR forums because I started calling meself that a loooooong time ago on the old, old, OLD Interplay Forums. :3 And why? Xan is my favorite. EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE XAN! XD

Humm, I don't think I've ever seen XAN here? I know there's Xen whom I'm going to kill if he doesn't change his sig soon!

and for them what I PM'ed!

Circe 01-11-2005 06:48 AM

My name is something I have had for all the years Ive had a computer. Its from the tales of Odysseus.
Circe or (Kirke) is the daughter of Helios (The Sun) and Perseis (the daughter of Okeanos).
On her island... in her palace... Circe waits for lost sailors to come wandering to her door as supplicants. Normally, a traveler is treated as a special guest but with Circe, travelers are drugged and then served as dinner.

Andraste was the right genre, yet suitably obscure. I have occasionally wondered how many other posters would get the reference.

Wow! What's for dinner?

Kal Zakath 01-11-2005 09:43 AM

My name isn't anything new, I just took it from David Eddings' Malloren series. `Zakath was one of my favorite characters, and its revealed in the beginning of the Malloren that the ` stood for Kal, which is actually an old rank meaning King and God. :D

Don Bolo 01-11-2005 02:22 PM

Don Bolo is a villain from a comic book called Lycra Woman/Spandex Girl. It was an underground comic in the 1990's that was based on the old Sid & marty Krofft production of Electra Woman and Dyna girl.

Anyway Don Bolo is a famous Mexican film star/Vampire killer. He acts like a Zorro/Don juan type romancing woman but wears a toupee to cover his balding head.

But he is a villain and tries to take over the town where Lycra Woman and Spandex live but is thwarted.

Actually both Lycra Woman and Spandex girl are fairly incompetent when fighting crime. They had to get help from Santo and the Aztec Mummy (real famous Mexican superheroes).

The comic book series is well worth reading. Lots of hilarious villains like The Prom Queen, The evil Prude, Mr Distinguished, Passion and Ecstasy, stupid guy, and Ooh-lala (the sexy but evil French Pastry chef) .

BTW I used to play City of Heroes and so I named most of my characters form this comic book series L-)

When I went to university they gave us userids based on your first and middle initials added to your last name. Mine became "javanhezewyk"; my friends shortened it to "javan".

Just like many others here, I was stumped to come up with an awesome forum name so I just used the first one to come to mind.

Maybe we Canadians just like to keep it simple. ;)
