It's Ultima Worlds of Adventure 1: Savage Empire. Was a long time ago that I played the game, but the name Edon rang a bell
|
Right. It's your turn, Link.
|
Okay.. for good time's sake I'll go for an old game: Civilization. In the game you could choose between two modes "Earth" and "New Game".
It was possible to win the game in "Earth" mode (Chieftain difficulty) with a specific people by using a very specific line of advances, being the world's only power by 400 B.C. The Question: What people/race am I talking about and name me at least two advances necessary for accomplishing the above mentioned tactic. |
I knew that last one had something to do with Eden...oh well.
Ok CIV, didn't know about that...let me think...was it the Americans, with Gunpower and Roads. |
Nope. If you can get Gunpowder by then, you're pretty good ;)
|
I had a game where I got railroad in 600 BC, so getting gunpowder in 400. By winning in 400 BC do you mean overrunning al opponents?
|
OK...yes thought gun power would be a bit of a long shot...what about the Russian's with wheel, and math
|
Civilization could be won by two means:
1) Defeating all opponents 2) Getting your spaceship complete and sending it to outer space. I can imagine you'll understand there won't be any spaceships in 400 BC ;) Gunpowder is obtainable, yes you're right. I was thinking too far ahead (got myself mixed up with units like Artillery instead of Musketeers) And you're pretty close Target. Keep guessing |
Hope I get closer!!
OK, How about Mongols, with the Wheel and bronze? |
Nope. Still not correct. Wheel is one of the correct advancements, though. The Chariot unit is a must-have because of the ability to move two fields in one turn Saves you a lot of time!
HINT: How would you want to conquer America? Surely not by foot ;) |
Getting over to America is doable by trireme's so Mapmaking could be OK. What about greeks or romans with wheel and mapmaking?
|

Bingo!

The combination I had in mind is the following indeed Romans with Mapmaking and the Wheel. You need to be a Europe-civilization, and I always played the Romans. Starting off in Italy, you have the opportunity to destroy the French, Greek, German (depends on who's there) civilization with just your settlers as war machines. The AI opponent will just build a city right away while you move around with your settlers to conquer before any militia is actually built. Following this, you start building your own cities. Produce chariots as fast as possible (and a lot too!) so you can hop around to Africa nad Asia and crush their civilizations. Chariots are ABSOLUTELY necessary because of their two moves in one turn. Militia will just take too much time in conquering. Then you definitely need Mapmaking, and travel to America (taking the Iceland-Greenland route to prevent your triremes from sinking) and destroy the civilizations over there. Eventually, if you've played the "Earth" mode enough, you'll notice where the computer will place the new opponents. If you've had the Greek before the English, for instance, then the English will settle in South America after you eviscerate the Greek. Getting the Egyptians instead of the Aztec will make the Aztec originate in Indonesia. The Zulu's will start off in Australia (IIRC) when you've encountered the Babylonians first. Yes, I've played this game a lot back in my 386 days. Great job nonetheless, and I'm sorry for Target that dplax eventually guessed the answer correctly. Better luck next time! |
Since Target started guessing first and gave an almost correct answer I only had to come in to sweep up what remained. So as a compensation I give my go to Target.

Now, now stop flattering me. :D

If I were selfish I wouldn't have given the quote to Target.
|
No that's true. But it was just a figure of speech (and you ARE selfish if you step in the headlight laying the last piece of the puzzle in place ;) )
|
I admit that there was a bit of selfishness in me "laying the last piece of the puzzle", but I am 100% sure Target could have gotten it too.
|
Um... can we get on with the next question? Target? dplax? Anyone?
|
Hay, how about that, a price for coming second!!
ok...and old game where you start as a 'spirit' (of sorts) and release your party from portraits hanging one walls before the game starts for real... |
Hay cool just made Drow warrior!!!
sorry thats a bit off topic!! ;) |
Dungeon Master 1 ?

Yeah, that was a bit of an easy one!!
Your go Loudhy. |
O.K. here's is another question:
In a game you had to do something unusual (dangerous ) with a ship to reach a special destination. 1 : What was the name of the game ? 2 : Why was it unusual ( dangerous ) ? |

O.K. some more informations :
it's an RPG and it's older than 10 years. |
Ultima 2? With the spaceship? Um, can't think of why it was dangerous though. I guess intergalactic flight is like that... ;)
|
Close ( right serie) ,but it wasn't a space ship.

Oh, Ultima 3. You need to go down a whirlpool to reach ambrosia and meditate at the shrines.
|
Right, The Hierophant.
I only solved Ultima III because I drove the ship in the whirlpool by accident. I'd never thought, that would be necessary to solve the game. It's your turn. |
Okey dokey.
Recite the scripture carved upon the Panarri altar at the crash site at the beginning of 'Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura'. [ 03-24-2004, 09:13 AM: Message edited by: The Hierophant ] |
Oh damn... I finished the game years ago and I can't seems to recall a damn thing. Maybe I should go and ask Virgil. :(

And the spirit of the living one will be reborn on wings of fire in hills shrowded in fog.
Something very close to that. P.S. It's Panarii. Just being a pain. [ 03-24-2004, 05:48 PM: Message edited by: Bozos of Bones ] |

Ah... The battle part! Damn, I completely forgot about that one.
Name all the AIs in Deus Ex, and write something about how they realte to eachother chronologically and plotwise. |
*spoilers*
Icarus, Deadalus and Helios (spelling may a bit off). There is also the one in Illuminaty H.Q, who shares the name of a certain character from The Matrix. If I recal correctly, Icarus was designed by the UN to keep track of global communications, but it wasn't a very big succes. Later, it was used by MJ12. Then something went wrong with the A.I, and it classified MJ12 as a terrorist group. I think Deadalus was used by the Illuminaty to keep track of MJ12. Eventually, Deadalus and Icarus merged, and evolved into Helios, an A.I that was intended to merge with Bob Page. Edit: Morpheus was a bit of a beta version. Everet keeps it around for personal entertainement. [ 03-25-2004, 11:42 AM: Message edited by: Dreamer128 ] |
Almost Flawless Victory! Take it away, Ross!
P.S. The real full answer is: Echelon was the first, it is only mentioned as a UN surveillance program. A part of it, the Morpehus, is in Everet's house. Then came Daedalus who classified MJ12 as a terrorist organisation. After that was Icarus who attacked Daedalus and merged to create Helios who was planned to join with Bob Page.
