What could I possibly buy to increase my magic power by items? I now have half a million bucks.
What item makes most sense for my party with magics main focus? |
Hello folks,
Ferro gave me a hint to go to the King in the Rapax away camp. He should want to talk to me. But when I arrive at Rapax Away Camp all Rapay get hostile and fight against me!?? I even have an entry in my journal. EDIT: Sorry, I think, you have already told me! [ 08-19-2004, 04:35 PM: Message edited by: Micha369 ] |
Spell Books. Why wait and add only one spell per level...when shopping, click on 'Usable Items' then change characters and scroll past the Spell Books, you'll see which ones may be useful - but the character needs to be strong enough in that spell's realm to learn the spells also.
I like the Mana Stone, if you leave one charge on it, it can be sold and bought back recharged for a net cost much much lower than potion, and can be used by a non-magical character while the magic caster is still casting, using magic will develop the character's skill in that realm (eventually) - even if casting beyond their 'likely success' range - just watch out for backfires - fizzles are just dissapointing, but a backfire on a spell like asphyxiate could kill some of the party... I like the robes or rejuvenation (about 60,000 when you can find them) or the cloak of many colors (around 100,000 when you can find them), snakespeed boots, which generally are usable by anyone - or the infinity helm, for those that can use it - these items resist magic... If you go to Ascention Peak, and find Bela, he usually stocks some exceedingly expensive stuff. ANd of course in the Rapax Castle Antone has some stuff that can rip thru your budget as well. But take your time spending the Gold... did you get and sell the diamond from the Rouges yet ? If so, perhaps it's time to buy it back and 'turn in in at the Bank' for the paltry reward - and the Experience Points (which lead to increased levels that of course lead to better Magic as well). I assume that you found the staff of Ash (the Lava Lord) ? |

Another great thing to save money for is shopping at Ferro's. If you're L15 or higher, you can get Robes of Rejuvination (IIRC 100000) and Infinity Helm (150,000). Robes can be worn by all, and regen +1 HP, SP, and Stamina, and the Helm can be worn by FLVRS and regens +2 HP, +2 SP, and +5 Stamina.

Monk certainly can wear Robes of Rejuv, unless it's a Faerie. And sorry, forgot, Ninja can't. But you can usually sell everything back to Ferro for the price you paid, unless your Comms is really low.
|
That's a reason why I don't use many Faeries in my parties. By the time I hit Ferro with most parties I can 'cure' health, stamina and mana problems by outfitting them wirh Robes of Rejuvenation and Infinity Helms. Faeries can't use them.
As far as I know, and willing to be proved wrong, the only thing they could use to quickly recover the health, stamina and mana quickly is Nebdar's Amulet? I find the retro dungeons totally confusing though so don't go into them any more. They can't use the Necklace of Endurance or Locket of Reflection either so you can't run everywhere with them. Unless of course, they have a Sprite's Dagger which is +1 to Stamina. Is there any other items that Faeries can wear that helps recovery of HP, stamina and mana? Thanks. |
IIRC Fairies can use the Locket of Reflection.
|
Oops, yes you're right Loudhy. Sorry about that.
How about items for Faeries which boosts health and mana then? |
I only know Amulet and Ankh of Healing HP+1 and Ring of Regeneration HP+4
I can't remember mana items, sorry. |
Ok, this might be the worst question ever, and at the risk of sounding like a moron, here goes. I just got Wizardry 8 today, and at first I thought it wasnt't possible to move your party around in combat. There are a few spots in this topic where people have talked about moving in combat. So I tried again, and I can't figure it out. I can only rotate the screen around. So could someone let the newb in on the secret. Thanks
|
Doh, how could I forget the Ankh/Amulet of Healing. Thanks Loudhy.
Mind you, have never got the Ring of Regeneration, is that a guaranteed drop somewhere or is it random (I suspect the latter as I've never seen it as I said). |
It's random. Found it once in Davy Jones Locker. Very rare, I think.

Then for me it's VERY, VERY, VERY rare ! :D .
The Cane of Corpus has 79.9 % and I killed the Don twice : No CoC !!! [ 08-20-2004, 06:57 AM: Message edited by: Loudhy ] |

More common is the Fay ring (or ring of Fays?). IIRC high AC and stamina regeneration. Don't recall suitable mana regeneration items (except Nebdar). But faerie has innate mana regeneration, which is a bit slower than the +1 from items, but you have it from game start. I think a single faerie is a very good choice for mage or psionic (since they can't wear many things anyway), in parties with few pure spellcasters (otherwise you'll rest otfen anyway, so the mana regeneration doesn't help that much) |
"I've Faeries caps. Don't recall what it did, IIRC it was only hit point regeneration (never had a faerie when i found this)."
I know the feeling, whenever I get Sprite's Daggers from those Tree Sprites next to Fuzzfaz (spelling?) in Trynton I have no Faeries in the party. Edit: How do you insert quotes like in Wereboar's post above? [ 08-20-2004, 08:23 AM: Message edited by: Krull ] |

Look to the left of the message box, see the link entitled UBB Code is enabled, click that and scroll down the page. It tells how to do the quote and some other things by using codes. |
Thanks! I'll print this out for reference.

Fey Ring is MINUS 1 Stamina. Sprite's Dagger is +1, and you can wield 2.
|
So I'm finally with Surdan!
He wants to know who hat sent me! I don't know the answer! What do I have to say??? |
Surdan doesn't ask about this... Do you mean Saydin?
|
If so, tell him Al-Adryian sent you.

Wow, new rank!
|
Talk first to the guy farthest away from the ramp you came up, his door opens, then you talk to Al-Adryian, then it's Al-Adryian who sent you. After you complete your initiation, Al-Adryian will give you a couple of the Dark Nectars. PP him then, or kill, if you want some of his Uberstuff. He'll reappear regardless once you're done with A-S.
|
Yes, I got it! Thanks!
Another question: Is it really rewarding to train fighting against the enemies all day to get an edge against the big end game enemies (Dark Savant or whomsoever)? Or do it only make the enemies stronger as I've heard that the hitpoinst of the enemies are related to ones own strength? |
Level, not HP. Zones attempt to "match" your level when spawning, so it actually makes sense to train your Skills more and actually kill less, so you can hit and damage the mobs. BUT it is possible to enter a Zone at a lower level than the lowest spawn level for the zone, in which case you get wild cards.
Of course, leveling is also good so you're able to cast the big spells and have higher Attributes and HP. There's a balance, but i don't really pay much attention myself--i just get the cheap weapons out if i think my hitting is lagging, or practise casting if that's behind. |
Anybody ever go through the game with just their original equipment?
|
i went through with less than my original equipment: a Naked Duo, Ninja-Monk, Martial Arts only, carried nothing but Final Mission-essential items. And Spellbooks they didn't qualify for yet.
One of my Import teams also gained no equipment. (they optimised what they imported, so what they had was better than Start kit) |

because i didn't want to have to go back and get them when i qualified! I didn't have some religious aspect of not carrying anything, just that i wanted to go through without any physical aid. (for that matter, your question could even have been, "why not leave the books where they are until you qualify?" and been answered the same)

Scatter
How did your party get on? Are Ninjas as good as Monks at MA? Must admit I haven't thought of a MA Ninja although Seven (aka Atlus 7) did do a mini-Spotlight on a Ninja using MA. |

Sorry for being so ignorant, but I think I can't understand you. |
Spawn: create mobs. Lowest: lowest level, easiest. Wild cards: often way over your level, very hard. The other way around, if you enter a zone where your level is higher than any of the spawns for there, you get some really easy ones.
In other words, each zone has a range of mobs that spawn there. Most notable is Mountain Wilderness, where many try to go as early as possible to get the nice stuff you can get there by sneakery. The easiest monster that appears randomly there is L10, and the hardest L26. So if you enter there @L9, you might end up being roasted by some L26 Scorchers, but if you wait til L10, there's (usually) only some Flying Snakes and Fire Ants. @Krull: No, the Ninja is pretty worthless at MA, mostly because 125 in Crit is actually only a 5% chance of KIA, whereas the Monk's 125 in Martial Arts means lots more swings and damage. Plus the Monk KO'd a lot of stuff, and the Ninja doesn't get KO. But the Ninja's spells were more effective: Kills were somewhere around 20% higher for the Monk, but that has to be adjusted by the uncounted damageless kills from the Ninja's Death Clouds and Quicksands, which probably brought it much closer to even. I am not Scatter but since he doesn't appear to be here at this time I will try to explain "spawning" and "wild cards" for you Micha.
Spawning is the term used for the generation of random monsters that you will encounter in the game. Spawns are only for random creatures and not for those creatures who are always at a location like the King Crab and Gregor. They are not "spawned" they are referred to as a "fixed" encounter. "Wild Cards" means something pulled completely at random because specific conditions are not met. In Wizardry 8 certain maps you enter expect your party to have reached a certain character level prior to coming in to them. Since the random monster encounters are based on average party level if you take your party into an area that expects them to be level 15 and they are only level 5 it has nothing to base monster level on so it just puts in monsters that are about mid-range in level for that area. Hence the term wild card. The monsters are spawned without correlation to the party level because the game cannot make a proper comparrison. An example: I have entered the Mountain WIlderness with a party of level 5 characters. The monsters I saw were level 25 Bitter Wings and level 23 Blistering Scorchers. Pretty rough for a party at level 5. In the Mountain Wilderness about the lowest level monster I have ever seen spawn was level 13 Acid Wings and level 14 Nightwings. The highest I have seen there was a level level 34 Molten Scorcher. From this I surmised the Mountain Wilderness appears to expect the party to be around level 12-15 before coming there. Hope that helps a bit and doesn't confuse you more on this subject. Edit: Speak of the devil and he walks in. Snuck in on me Scatter while I was creating my long winded reply. [ 08-24-2004, 05:34 PM: Message edited by: Flamestryke ] |
hah, beat you! But we have different info--i know 10's the lowest, i go there a lot then. I dunno about anything higher than 26 there, mostly because i'm almost never still in the game that high, and if i am, i have no need for the MW.

My Solo Dwarf Monk blows through there every now and then. She never did the nasty with Al-Sedexus so her one and only portal is on the Peak. I just run her over the landslide and be-pop through the Mountain Wilderness to Ferro. Since she is level 40 most of her encounters in MW are with Moltens and Bitterwings.
Cuts down a bit on the boredom of searching for enounters on the Peak. I know she'll always have a good time slaughtering Rapax harass teams in MW and hordes of Rapax in the Rift and Castle. She doesn't really use thrown weapons but every now and then I check in with Ferro and recharge items. And before any one questions it, I caused the Landslide on purpose. The walk through MW, Rift, and Castle are quite enjoyable after hours of ripping and running about the Peak. Its also a personal choice for this game that the Monk remains free of demonic contamination. Actually I had said from about level 10-15 for MW before I proofread my post. Level 10 is good for purists but I think Hybrids should be a little older before going to MW so I upped it a bit to compensate for that thought. You are right though, a party of level 10 will do ok in MW. |
