I will take a Ranger/Cleric or a Fighter/Mage anytime. |
:D
I've been descriminating against monk for all my BG time. I've played those, and they can be very powerful, I admit. and that is why I dish them. they are like the defenders on Bridge on America's Army, he just sit around don't do nothing, and get kick ass stuff. exotic, but annoying. they get too much for free. so far, I've slayed every monk crossed my way, lol, and I am sure the number will increase. |
I agree, every class is very powerfull in the right hands, the right tactic and the right equipment.
Now, probably one of the best melee fighters (in SoA) though is the Bard - Blade Kit. You get dual wield and double attacks per round, cast protection spells like Stoneskin and so on ... FINALLY you can cast Tenser Transformation which transforms him to a fighter of the same level. As rogues reach the highest level compared to all other classes (in SoA) the bard will be the highest level fighter you can get ... And from a roleplaying point of view, Tenser Transformation fits the bard much better than the Mage - I don't like them getting their hands bloody in melee attacks. |
So are you trying to say that a blade could take on an enraged half orc barbarian or beserker and live to tell the tale?
|
I actually just started a game w/ a solo monk and I have to say he has been kick butt so far.
|
A monk can get up to 4 attacks per round (I think) and deal alot more damage than a blade can. Also bards are useless kits. I'd rather not have some playin a harp at me while I'm fightin a dragon. If you want magic play a mage. if you want fightin play a fighter/monk/duelclass. If you want both play a kensai/mage. And if your like me and like sneaking around stabbin people in the back and watchin' em blow up from the damage or shooting mages with poisoned arrows so they can't cast spells for a while be an assasin. Good fun. Not much use against a mind flayer though.

when all characters are in the right hands, still, no one can take out a barb :D
my favored dueling character used to be Kensai/Mage, but after getting ass wooped every fight against a barb, I decided it was time to admit barb is better. oh, yeah, the dude drunk potions, I suspect I wouldn't lose so much if neither parties were allowed to drink any potions and for those say your fist can do much more dmg than sword, heh, you have not seen how much dmg a sword can do [ 09-17-2002, 11:27 PM: Message edited by: 250 ] |
I found using a Monk as a tank works well. 3-4 attacks per round can really
add up. This works really well when you can get in close quick with those "Michael Johnson gold Nike track" boots. I especially like using quivering palm against dragons and demons. |
