Anyway, good to see you, LB. I empathize with the work load...between Physics lab and Physics lab, this week has been horrible.

This is probably an idea time for me to be a student, what with the soaring price of gas.

On that note, however, it must be mentioned that many Americans commute a long ways for work, especially in the poorer parts. The Canadians, I'm sure, can empathize with this, though I'm not sure the same thing is really true of our European brethren.

Anyway, basically what I'm saying is the price scales out. Our gasoline prices are indeed cheaper, but economically, we have to use a LOT in order for our businesses and industries to function.

At the current stage, anyway. Personally, I like the idea of tele-commuting, as it requires the use of significantly less energy.

*Just* 7 hours. Illander makes a good point. 7 hours would be enough to cover the length of the uk. We have rather different perceptions of distance. 7 hours drive to me is not my back yard [img]smile.gif[/img]

Edit - ok maybe not the length, Land's End to John O'Groats is 1000 odd miles. You could just about reach anywhere you want from yorkshire on a good day...

7 hours drive doesn't get you very far in Canada.

The black line is how one would get from Edmonton to Ft. Mac, where all the oil is. Someone can correct me, but I think that that's a 6-7 hour drive.
Edit- Actually, that estimate might even be a bit conservative... I remember driving to Cold Lake (near the right edge, and a bit north of edmonton) took about 6 hours... the Ft. McMurray drive might take 10...

I did see a gas station over by Southgate that was at 98.4 cents a liter. All the other ones I saw were at 101.8 or something.

As for the oil...actually we drill as close as Leduc/Nisku to edmonton and the major oil refinery is on the outskirts of the city towards Sherwood Park, so it's literally in our backyard. [img]smile.gif[/img]
Melechor - you're right I forgot about the conversion....what can I say, it sucks even worse to be you. Time to buy a little smart car running a hybrid has got to be a lot less expensive.
