Neb wasn`t banned for disagreeing with the mods. He was banned for publically questioning moderator decisions; which translates to trying to make the mods look bad.
We have a right to question the mod's decisions, but PM or email is a far better way to do it than a public thread.
All of the rules here exist for a reason, most of them being common sense.

Try putting yourself in Ziroc's shoes. You run a large forum and someone publically questions your authority, what are you going to do ?? Probably you wouldn`t let that slip, especially not if it was as direct as "I have a problem with the way you run your own site".
It would be annoying of course. But if the questioning would be justified, I would reply to it publically. Neb had his reasons, I´m sure, and I didn´t see anything wrong with them.

Each of us will have our own preferred way of "thrashing things out". But bearing in mind that this is Ziroc's website, we ought to have the courtesy of accepting his preference.

As for Neb's latest avatar, I'm not sure if it was meant to be a joke or not. But wouldn't it be better for you to ask the mods separately? Let's at least attempt to keep the peace

Right, I should have. It just came out along with the rest. The only thing I´d really want is that the "foolish follower" would get deleted, and then leave the woes behind. It just annoys me, and yes, maybe I could have PM:d this message too, but it would be interesting to know what other people think about this.

And sigmar, Im afraid Neb cannot decide himself to have red "banned" text under his name. I´m sure you know how it works, that´s the mark that banned members get.

Well your initial point about him being unable to decide whether he is banned or not is correct

I simply wasn't aware that Ziroc had designed a special avatar for banned members, I thought it was a custom avatar made for Neb. Like a certain member's stoned golem :D

That avatar does look good though :D

Actually, this is wrong. Everyone is in control of whether or not they get banned - it's in their actions. They decide this - we just execute the consequences of their decisions.

Personally I wasn't aware that Neb had been banned - my understanding when I went to bed last night was that he had decided that he could not follow the guidelines which we set out regarding respect for moderators and so had decided to withdraw his membership:

"Exactly, bye Ronn, bye everyone. Can you delete accounts? I think that I'll go find out." - Neb in this thread.

I haven't heard anything to the contrary from anyone. As for the avatar, if you email Ziroc I'm sure he will be glad to clear that up for you.

Re: the "abiding by moderators decisions" issue - it's starting to really irritate me that people can't seem to comply with this simple request. This is NOT a democratic country where leaders are elected and everyone can do whatever they like - at the end of the day this is a private forum owned by one person who sets the rules. You guys are free to accept or reject those rules. If you agree to follow them, you stay. If you don't agree to follow them, then you leave. It's that simple - you can't have it both ways. It's not like these rules are unfair or unreasonable anyway. I hardly think this constitutes a police state. If you want NO moderatorship and no rules, then go visit one of the Gamespy or Usenet forums and see how long you last.

If ANYONE wants more clarification on this issue then I encourage them to contact either myself, Ziroc or another of the mod team.
Upon reflection I should have added a "now" to that statement. I wasn't attacking the mods and their banning methods.

This is the message I wanted to send through.

"Well your initial point about him being unable to decide whether he is now banned or not is correct"

I appriciate that it is ultimately our choice whether we are banned or we remain, for it is we who decide how we behave and act here. Just a case of micscommunication Memnoch

Funny how one word can change an entire statement.

I think the avatar and "Foolish Follower" is in poor taste. But that's just my opinion. ;D

Now I am starting to think that all of these questions arising from nothing is all Neb's doing... I hope I am wrong in this... :(

Attalus 11-24-2002 09:45 AM

*Shrugs* It's Ziroc's site, he can do anything that he wants with it. I'm with Memnoch, I cannot see why this is such a controversy. After a long talk with another forum member, I can see that this is the culmination of a long-simmering dispute, with many complex roots. It is not the result of one or two posts, no matter how ill-advised. As someone once wrote, it is not the first thing that comes up in an argument in a long-standing relationship, sometimes not the one-hundred-and-first. As for taste, de gustibus non disputandum est., as the old lady said as she kissed the pig. ;)
