Actually, Sir Gollum, here's the best rule of thumb I can give. Assuming you are asking about women, if they try to make you better they like you. In my experience, it is nearly a 100% rule that when women love (or seriously like) a man, they try to help him become the best man he can be (sorta like the Army, but with lots of discussions about how you're feeling tied in :D ). So, is she trying to encourage you to get better grades, bone-up for that interview, or go running with her? Could be a clue.
