With the exception of FFTactics, I've never heard of any of those games. You're being a little inconsistent there buddy ;) </font>
How so?

My whole point was to suggest games you have NOT heard of, you know? I like bringing to attention titles that should have recieved more attention, but died in obscurity due to so many people jumping the "popular bandwagon". I know you've seen similar things happen with movies. How many people went to go see, say, Fast and the Furious simply because everyone said they need to go see it? It was a cheesy flick, in all honesty. It just had cool cars. That's how I feel about FF7, really. It was a cheesy game, but had "good graphics" when it came out, so tons of people flocked to it.

</font>
Well, I'm sorry if I came across as a little harsh. I guess I misinterpreted that last statement. I don't really get what games qualify for the "popular bandwagon." I'd never buy a game just on someone's word, but if I've read previews and seen a few screenshots, and liked what I saw, then I'll consider the purchase. All of the games I listed are quality games, not just popular ones.

"Popular Bandwagon" is anything that that has recieved undue attention due to mass media.

Beoulve, Nano, stop hijacking the thread. It was made to make a list of games you feel are must plays, not to debate what should or should not be listed. IF you must continue this debate stick to PM's.

Tch.

It's a message board, man. Threads take on a life of their own.

It's not unrelated to the thread, anyway. We're talking about must play games. Either the ones that the media puts out saying is a "must play" game, or the ones that no one has heard of that is a "must play" game.

</font>
This is true. It is related to the thread and therefore totally validated. We're all gamers so of course our best-loved games will differ. Thank you all for your suggestions. Now to just pick some from the lists! :D

Perhaps. However, Beoulve's opposition to my view's could have been conveyed in a more repectful manner.

At anyrate I forgot to mention:

ICO
(I might say Kartia, but it just didn't feel right to me. I would call it one of the few, maybe the only, game that ATLUS didn't do well.)

I'll pitch in a few opinions:

I agree FF7 is a must play game. It has an great story, remarkable characters, excellent scenery, fun game play, and mini-games and side quests galore.
It has been one of my favorites since the day it came out ( and before the hype).
For a console RPG it's one I recomend.

Must play turn based stragedy: Master of Orion 2 is a clasic 4x PC stragedy game. Similiar to Civ2, but in space. I love designing my own ships!

Must play RTS: MechCommander Gold. It dispenses with typical RTS elements to focus on mech design and group tactics. A very challenging game IMHO, but one of my must plays.

I remember my freshman high school year, two of my friends used to just sit at lunch and talk about new strategies for Master of Orion 2. This went on the whole year, and there was always something new for them to bring up.

Sounds like it's really deep. I should probably check it out sometime.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - I prefer this to Civilisation mainly because it's got better gameplay and customisable units. The Secret Project movies are awesome as well.

Hardwar - the best free-roaming, non-linear space sim since Elite. Except that it's set on a moon.

Hitman:Codename 47 - Way better than Hitman 2. Unlike Hitman 2 there is actually some thought and strategy required to play.

The Longest Journey - Point-and-click adventure. One of the best stories in a game since Planescape:Torment.

Final Fantasy 7 - best in the series
