European Union Decides to Drop the 'Mrs.'
CBN News

March 17, 2009

CBNNews.com - The European Union says no more to using "Mrs." and "Miss."

According to the London Daily Mail newspaper, the E.U. has decided that such words are sexist and politically incorrect.

Referring to a woman's marital status is also banned and the new guidelines don't stop there. "Man-made" is out as well as the words "sportsmen" and "statesmen."

"Policemen" and "policewoman" are being replaced for "police officers."

One Scottish politician described the guidelines as "political correctness gone mad."

<h2>Finn creates USB 'finger drive'</h2>A Finnish computer programmer who lost one of his fingers in a motorcycle accident has made himself a prosthetic replacement with a USB drive attached.

Jerry Jalava uses the 2GB memory stick, accessed by peeling back the "nail", to store photos, movies and programmes.

The finger is not permanently attached to his hand, so it can be easily left plugged into a computer when in use.

Mr Jalava says he is already thinking about upgrading the finger to include more storage and wireless technology.

"I'm planning to use another prosthetic as a shell for the next version, which will have removable fingertip and RFID tag," he wrote on his blog, ProtoBlogr.net.

Half of Mr Jalava's left ring finger had to be amputated last summer after he crashed into a deer while riding his motorbike near Helsinki.

He says he was inspired to create the unique storage device when doctors treating him joked that he should have a USB "finger drive" after finding out that he was a software developer.

==========================

Kind of gruesome and cool at the same time... but he'd be a heck of a security risk, wouldn't he?

"Mr Jalava, we'll have to scan your finger before you can leave tonight..."

<h2>Dog eats $400, but woman recovers some cash later</h2>APEX, N.C. – A North Carolina family's dog didn't eat the children's homework, he ate mom's money. Kelley Davis said she had an extra $400 in cash to deposit after working extra hours as a physical therapist. She told the News & Observer of Raleigh that on Friday she planned to deposit the money, but it wasn't in her pocket.

She remembered leaving it in the bedroom and it occurred to her that the family's 2-year-old greater Swiss mountain dog, Augie, might have eaten it.

Davis, 42, said when she took Augie for a walk Saturday, she found parts of three $100 bills and five $20s in his leavings. She washed them with a garden hose and hopes to find enough pieces to exchange them for cash.

A professor at the North Carolina State University Veterinary School said the money shouldn't hurt the dog.

Okay... that's one chore I don't want to have! Still... that's a pretty high rate of return. I might sift through crap for $400...

Apparently, her odds are pretty good...

Just gotta explain what happened and provide evidence that the rest of the bill has likely been destroyed....

Call the cops... I'm being robbed!

<h2>Wisconsin jewelry robbers fleeced as they flee</h2>MILWAUKEE – Two robbers leaving a Milwaukee jewelry store with cash and gems didn't get far with the loot — another group of thieves robbed them as the pair left the crime scene.

Police Lt. Thomas Welch says a fight broke out in the street Wednesday before the groups got in vehicles and a chase ensued.

Welch says officers pulled over both vehicles and arrested four people, including the original two robbers, ages 40 and 31, and two men from the second group, of ages 22 and 27. All four are from Illinois.

But he says police didn't recover any cash or jewelry and are searching for more suspects.

No estimate was available of the value of the stolen items.

Man, what kind of place is this where you can get robbed just after you finish your work?

LAKELAND, Fla. -- A Polk County teenage student has been suspended from school because he intentionally passed gas, according to school officials.

The Lakeland Ledger reported that 15-year-old Jonathon Locked Jr. was suspended from Bill Duncan Opportunity School under a school district rule against disruptive behavior.

School officials said the teen repeatedly passed gas to make other children laugh. They said the smell also made it difficult to breathe.

Locked's father said his son isn't perfect and they're appealing the suspension, saying the district went too far with its punishment.

DON'T DO AS I DO! DO AS I SAY!

Americans' Special Relationship with "Taxes": It is not just that the secretary of the Treasury owed back taxes for years, or that two other presidential cabinet-level nominees owed back taxes. In January, federal prosecutors revealed that District of Columbia Council member Marion Barry, who was already on probation after a 2005 conviction for failing to file tax returns for the years 1999 through 2004, and subsequently almost tauntingly failed to file a return for 2006, has now doubled-down the taunt by failing to file for 2007. And in March, a Georgia state senator proposed punishment for the 22 members of the legislature who either owed back taxes or had failed to file returns for at least one year since 2002. The 22 were not identified, in compliance with privacy laws, but the Senate's Democratic leader, Robert Brown, outed himself as one of the 22 in the course of calling his scolding colleague a "bloodsucker."

<h2>Mich. baseball park to offer 4,800-calorie burgers</h2>GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Well, at least the salsa is low-cal. The West Michigan Whitecaps, a minor league baseball team, will be offering up major league cholesterol, carbohydrates and calories in an enormous hamburger being added to the menu this year at the Fifth Third Ballpark.

The 4-pound, $20 burger features five beef patties, five slices of cheese, nearly a cup of chili and liberal doses of salsa and corn chips, all on an 8-inch sesame-seed bun. That's a lot of dough!

The Grand Rapids Press reports that anyone who eats the entire 4,800-calorie behemoth in one sitting will receive a special T-shirt. Saner fans can divide it up with a pizza cutter and share.

The Midwest League team is a Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

Wanna bet?

<h2>Man accused of stealing $60 gas station bet</h2>GREENSBURG, Pa. – State police are investigating a weird theft involving a western Pennsylvania gas station attendant who made a $60 bet with a customer. State police are asking for the public's help because they've been unable to solve the crime March 9 at Snooky's Sunoco.

Police said a customer walked in and complained about the price of cigarettes at the gas station about 3:20 a.m. that day. The clerk took $60 from his pocket and bet the customer he couldn't find cigarettes cheaper at another store.

That's when the customer grabbed the money and ran.

Police said they're still looking for that customer.

<h2>Toilet sausage chef causes prison unit evacuation</h2>CLALLAM BAY, Wash. – An inmate's attempt to heat up sausages in his toilet went up in smoke when the cooking fire forced a unit evacuation at a Washington prison. Clallam Bay Corrections Center spokeswoman Denise Larson says 130 inmates were evacuated to a dining hall when smoke was spotted coming from a sewer vent pipe Wednesday evening.

She says the smoke was traced to the inmate's cell and he admitted to trying to heat up snack sausage bought from a prison store in the stainless steel toilet. The inmate's identity has not been released.

The toilet chef has been placed in segregation pending discipline at the prison on Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

========================

Ermmm.... I'm pretty sure I'm going to skip his next cookout.

I'm just not exactly sure how you heat things up in a toilet... and get your minds *OUT* of the toilet, youse guys...
