Re: New Art for default DC
I would have had the gnome up before I went to bed last night, but I keep hitting a glitch - without getting too technical, every time I try use one particular script that I want to use, it unloads the textures, and to put the textures back, I have to turn off the script. :D I'll just do something else, no big deal, but last night I was a bit fixated on correcting the issue, and well, didn't get anything done. :)

Re: New Art for default DC
Hmm - sounds complicated (I will be fine with my 2D, thanks :D )

Re: New Art for default DC
It is a bit complicated, but I'm a true geek, so the more complicated and convoluted the better. :D

Re: New Art for default DC
I've been thinking about starting a thread for WIPs (Works In Progress), because I don't mind showing my process and wouldn't mind feedback, etc. But, I don't want people using the unfinished/inferior pictures. I don't want to put a watermark on them, as that may cover up something I'm trying to call attention to.
Any thoughts, oh artists of Dungeon Craft? |
Re: New Art for default DC
:( All of my mucking around with the gnome last night corrupted the save file. Bye, bye, Mr. Gnome.
I guess I'm starting over. That's not the end of the world, though. I already know what I want to do, so I know what direction to go, and this time I'm going to use a different figure as the base. I'm hoping to get something up today...wish me luck. :D:D:D |
Re: New Art for default DC
Damn... What happened? That really sucks :( (I have had a few close calls (overwriting, etc.), but so far have been lucky - it really does suck to lose all your work for something, though.)
As for WIPs... Well, I am thinking of setting up a place to put some line art (i.e. step #2 in my general progress), including those that I have not actually turned into fully-finished color images (step #4 :D ). |
Re: New Art for default DC
I don't know what I did to lose the first gnome. I save early and often. I do have a couple of renders I did towards the end of the evening that I'll post here in a little bit as soon as I make them a friendlier size.
I'm doing quite well with the new fella, who I've been calling Chomsky, though of course his real name is #16. :D:D:D |
Re: New Art for default DC
You could also combine those two names to give him a full name, like "Chomsky #16"...

Re: New Art for default DC
Okey dokey, without further ado, here is our intrepid explorer spic16. :)
Pic removed for repair. :) |
Re: New Art for default DC
Hey, looks nice! Brighter than the other one.
Wondering about sizing, though - I guess small pics can be of any size, etc.? Do you have any (self-imposed) rules regarding this? |
Re: New Art for default DC
He does seem a bit tall doesn't he? Rules? I don't need no stinkin' rules!
I've been having a hard time with making gnomes short. :) I've always thought of them as the same size as dwarves, and now I come to realize that they are shorter by quite a bit... As soon as I get a chance, I'll redo it. :) So, for now, #16 is going away. |

Re: New Art for default DC
Hmm - shorter? He does seem smaller all around... Is the picture from farther away now?

I've redone, #16 so that the gnome looks stockier.
For your viewing pleasure, in order, 14 and 16 |

Re: New Art for default DC
Nice work, manikus! How long did it take to do these guys?
Chomsky looks like he is in Greece (or, I dunno, Mesopotamia or some other place around there) :D The druid looks nice - she has a khopesh, I see. What is that creature behind her, though? A smilodon? |
Re: New Art for default DC
Her feline friend is a panther, sized to be on the large end of the spectrum of acceptable sizes. :)
I was thinking the same thing about Chomsky. I went for this look based off of his helmet which reminded me of something I had seen of either ancient Mesopotamian or Babylonian warriors. :) And what do you think of Odorf? :D I expiremented with hairy feet, but couldn't get anything that remotely resembled what I wanted. |
Re: New Art for default DC
Hmm - he looks quite hobbit-ish up close, but perhaps his feet are a bit small (from far away you can see them). Of course, Tolkien may not have specified big, hairy feet in his novels, so your image may be correct in actuality (I am working from my preconceived notions of hobbit-ness) :)
|
Re: New Art for default DC
His feet are pretty big, about 15-20% longer in relation to his legs than for a human. It's hard for me to make them larger without distorting them, and then I'd have do touch-up work in photoshop, and I don't wanna. :)
|
Re: New Art for default DC
Ah - well, the picture is small itself, so maybe they are bigger than they seem to me. :) (A foot closeup might be good... ha ha, just kidding, no need to do that...)
|
Re: New Art for default DC
I could give him, Sideshow Bob sized feet... :D:D:D
|
Re: New Art for default DC
But... someone might try to step on them!
