Wow snow! * I must show my kids and explain to them what it is *

Is there a snowman smiley or winter smiley in the Ironworks graphic pages, because I can not find one?

Stormy I hate repair men like that, they are scum. Thankfully being an engineer I can tend to fix most things but getting the parts sometimes is a problem.

Now of course my wife might point out that I took so long to fix the dishwasher (over a month of waiting) she gave up and called a repairman. $160 bill and a lesson learned

Sir Goulum 12-22-2004 07:26 PM

Ugh, -20C and a good foot and a half of snow. This is terrible! ;) Good thing it's supposed to warm up to -1 tommorrow.

Wellard- just use my snowman! :D

RoSs_bg2_rox 12-22-2004 07:39 PM

Well, all the snow here has melted, but there is a 5 in 6 chance of a white christmas according to the bookies, with heavy snow on Christmas eve.

Well, if you want a bad repairman job, our electrician who lives less than a mile from our house still hasn't been since 2 years ago when we needed an extra phone socket for another dial-up line. not impressed, we don't even need it anymore!

There is something to unsettleing about your frozen friend, SnoEdwina !!! I would not touch 'it' with a ten foot barge pole Are you sure thats a sword? I did not know Edwin was so, ...erm.. so well equipped?

He couldn't have been or maybe Viconia would have been nicer to him. Errr, maybe not.

Bungleau 12-22-2004 10:33 PM

I'll give you one good reason for writing just what's allowed, Philip.

Out in the "real world", when you're communicating with busy people (managers, vice presidents, CxOs, Directors, customers, and so on), they don't have a lot of time. You need to communicate your message quickly, and convince them or educate them about what needs to be done.

I learned this from a college professor who gave us MBA case studies to read, and then required a two-page paper to address them. You can't even do justice to the introduction in two pages, let alone write the whole paper! Oh, yeah -- he also specified margins and minimum font size, to take care of us wiseacres.... :D

I mentioned this to the VP over my area, and he agreed with the prof's approach. Anything that was a page or so long when he got it would be read immediately, more or less. Anything larger would go on to the "when I can get to it" pile, which was awfully close to the trash can.... :D

The point is not to cover every possible thing, at least not in the real world. It's to cover enough to make your point and inspire your audience to start asking you more questions. Once they do that, they're yours....

Over here, meanwhile, I'm enjoying the end of the year. On-site work for a customer today, and some light office clean-up tomorrow. Then off to family activities for Christmas, and the end of the year.

And perhaps a bit more gaming, if I can manage to log off of IW tonight :D

I want some snow over here in Nova Scotia! It's 10c right now with a heavy rain warning. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same, so not much chance of a white Christmas. :(

Sunny here, nice and sunny.

Oh and Goulum...I always thought that Snowman looked a wee bit dodgy.

I mean, the helmet style clashes with his shield

Attalus 12-23-2004 09:49 AM

Good morning. Clear and pretty here, though cold (28 degrees F) and a dusting of snow on the ground. Could this be construed as a white Christmas? Aah, it'll be melted by Saturday. Still and all the earliest snow that I can remember.

*snip*

LOL I won't be sending my essay on euthanasia to a very busy manager. It'll go straight to my English teacher who has right about enough time for anything. The last real English lesson I got was 3 years ago with another teacher. Shame we got mixed though. Well, ok at least last few weeks we've been watching films on Shakespear and read some of him but well that's not much work for him anyway. Not enough to make up for 2.5 years doing nothing.

But well I understand what it's about but in the assignment there was nothing on intended readers and that kind of stuff. Unfortunately today it was for my Dutch paper :( Had to make it interesting and not too boring, at least I wasn't the only one who ended up with some boring stuff simply because a lot of us had boring subjects that you can't make fun off easily.

But my physics teacher told me he had 8 of 10 of my answers checked and that it was good

I'll trade you! White christmas for rainy christmas!

Bungleau 12-23-2004 11:38 AM

Sadly, many teachers just put you through the motions of writing a paper, and skip the practical application. Even a paper on Euthenasia would have its place... imagine you're working in a hospital or hospice environment, and need to present some information to management.

Granted, it's limited, but there are practical reasons. Sometimes you have to make up your own reasons why something's important...

Yep I know. I want to be a doctor so I chose this subject (from a list of 8). Conclusion: the only law that should be new is one that protects somebody from having to make a decision for others :D But I think it's wishful thinking there'll ever be a law that looks at things in an easy way, till I of course find someone who can find a proper contra-argument

btw it was about people who had a terminal disease with long suffering. Not the question when you should pull the electricity from someone who's in coma.

[ 12-23-2004, 12:31 PM: Message edited by: philip ]

Bungleau 12-23-2004 12:43 PM

Different sides of the same coin. When is someone's life no longer worth living? It's a little easier for long-term suffering, since the patient can (theoretically) speak for themself. Can't do that when you're in a coma, folks....

I'm all for fewer laws. If people need to be protected from themselves, they should expect fewer liberties and privileges.

Wow! This feels like it almost belongs in CE!

Sigmar 12-23-2004 12:50 PM

I know.

Bungleau, philip, that was the most deep and philosophical discussion that has ever transpired within the walls of this cafe...

...we don't take kindly to that talk around here...

*loads shotgun*

;)

philip 12-23-2004 01:05 PM

First reaction: You can't kill me cause I'm already dead Pretty scary some random line automatically loads slipknot lyrics.

Now that's really a cafe line. But seriously you shouldn't be waving that around *throws shotgun out of the window* :D

Sigmar 12-23-2004 01:11 PM

Aww...

>_<

He had one day 'till retirement!

*falls to his knees, looks up to the ceiling, raises his right arm*

MENDOZAAAAAAA!!!!!
-------------------------------

Umm, don't mind me, carry on with your convo. :D

Bungleau 12-23-2004 01:44 PM

Sorry, Sigmar. I'll try to bring it back down to the right level.

Hmmm... cold and slightly snowy here. I'm kind of jealous that all that midwestern storm stuff has kind of left us out. It went south, and we haven't seen any of this "19 inches in a day" stuff.

That being said, I think I'd better get some gas in the car and in the snowblower. I just might be needing it soon... :D

I am so glad that I am out of school for some time. Now I can sleep for long hours. :D I am eating some chocolate with whole nuts and I really don't know what to do. Do you have any suggestions?

Bungleau 12-23-2004 03:25 PM

:D Sorry, Attalus. I try not to mention that place in here, but every so often, it slips out :(

Xen, I'd suggest taking the nuts out of their shells first. It's far more enjoyable that way... :D

You could always see how long you can balance a football on your foot. Do that while you're eating your chocolate, too.

Chocolate. Damn you. I'm hungry now... :D

Yes, best to leave CE in the dank, musty cellar. Only creepy or shady characters ever visit there; they must be up to nefarious monkeyshines to visit a place like that.

Glad to make you smile, Xen... although if you keep teasing me with that chocolate, I'm going to send my familiar after you to take it away.

*mutters* Now, to go get a familiar....

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-23-2004 05:13 PM

Urgh, chocolate. I bought a thing of those Dried fruit medley with different colour chocolate coating from Costco. It's sitting next to me and I can't stop eating! They're so good!

Lady Sedai 12-23-2004 05:21 PM

EWWWWW!!!

Not the *fake* chocolate, Variol!

What you need is some *REAL* chocolate. Not that whimpy flavored wax from Costco.

Cloudbringer 12-23-2004 05:22 PM

Hehe, hope somebody gave Bungleau some chocolate! :D

I had to work half a day today and just before I left my co-worker ghad a meltdown. She hates new things or new programs and convinced herself she can't use excel to do her timesheet so instead of just filling in the right amount of time in the right column (like we used to do on paper) she mucked it up and then threw a tantrum and started yelling at the boss....wasn't pretty...uh uh... luckily they went into someone's office and continued the 'discussion'. About 5 minutes before I left they came back out and it didn't look like co-worker was too happy but at least the boss didn't look like she'd had anything thrown in her face! LOL

Ahh.. The Holiday spirit... I think my co-worker either needs some, or got way to many 'spirits' from a bottle.. sheesh! Nah, she's not a drinker, just one of those who makes herself sick by convincing herself anything new is bad and she will be sick... sort of a self-fulfilling thing.

Glad I have some time off now!

I don't know why they just don't fire that cow, Cloudy. She is obviously just taking up space. LOL, just called Piestrider and his answering machine message says, "Hello, this is Carson. If you are my friend, I'm glad you called and I'll call back. If you're my enemy, I hate you and don't ever call me again." Galadria says it is my influence. :D

Cloudbringer 12-23-2004 07:10 PM

LOL @ Piestrider's answering machine msg! Well, he is perfectly clear, isn't he? LOL

Yah, she's got to go.. I hope for her own sake, she just retires.. it's obvious that she finds it too hard to keep up and work and it's rather sad seeing her do stuff like that.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-23-2004 08:30 PM

Sorry, can't talk, "Sound of Music" is on and I've been dying to see it for 2 weeks; later!

Attalus 12-23-2004 08:35 PM

My favorite The Sound of Music quote is from Christopher Plummer. When asked what it was like acting in it, he replied, "It waas like being beaten to death with a Hallmark card." ;)
