SIR BLANDAMOUR(to TAO) "my Lady, I feel that man is going to tell someone of our whereabuts that should not know them. Let us ride back to the Temple and consult Lady Sorsha, as soon as your wolf reports on where the lout goes."

TAOWolf 03-05-2002 09:21 PM

<font color="skyblue">"She will find us along the way." She goes to her horse, and mounts still frowning in thought. She waits for Sir Blandamour and the others to mount. She looks at the remainder of the wolves, and motions them back to the forest except for three which she motions for them to shadow group on the way to the temple just in case.....</font>

The little spy ran, unwary that he was being tailed by a wolf, back to his check-in location. He reported his findings to his company leader who in turn sent a hawk to fly towards unknown lands to deliver the message. Then, the young spy was backstabbed and left on the forest floor to rot.

Later, the hawk arrives at it's location, and Bazguul demands the letter be brought and read immediately. Upon hearing of the Paladins' location, and that a druid completed the party of three, Bazguul sulked. He had hoped that there would be two other ladies with this group. What had happened along the way? He sent more orders to continue observing this trio. Also, he sent yet more men out to various cities to find the missing two. He had to find the one named Sorsha.

The faint image of the stranger gradually becomes clearer as she rouses herself from fatigue, feeling a tingling sensation running down her throat. Her emerald green eyes cloud as she notes the serious expression.

"I... might well say the same to you, my lady." ~ The tone rueful, her shoulders drooping in unbearable weariness ~ "There is no place for me in this world." ~ She closes her eyes, seeking to blot out the darkness of her thoughts ~ If only I had the courage to end my own life. ~ Yet a counter-cry rises from within ~ I will not bow down to him! To anyone! ~ She begins to tremble involuntarily, hugging herself tightly and wrapped in her own train of thought.</font>

Seeing the lady open her eyes, Azure gasped at the sudden recognition.

"You were with Jaime's party back at the tavern where you all tracked down those killers! I saw you there, briefly! I am one of Jaime's friends! Do you remember me? Oh come on...wake up! The healing solution is weak, so you have to do alot of the waking on your own. Come on now! What has happened to you? Is there danger about? Should I be wary of an enemy?"</font>

Tancred 03-09-2002 11:22 PM

On the wind, voices.

"Look, we're lost. You've got us lost."
"We're not 'lost', and if you'd stop yapping on I could concentrate..."

On the horizon, a blurred figure, walking resolutely on.

"Just own up, holy boy! You don't know where we are, do you?"
"I know precisely where we are. We're HERE. As to the location of HERE in relation to anything else, ah, there I am stumped..."

A young man, clad in dented and tarnished armour with a blade-shaped hole in the chest. In one hand he holds a glowing sword, that inexplcably seems to be talking.

"I'm hungry."
"You're a sword. Swords don't get hungry, do they?"
"What do you know about it? You ever been a sword?"
"You've never mentioned it in the past year."
"I was being polite."

Two things see to be constant; the first, the pace of the knight's walking. A mechanical left-right-left that the knight seems to keep up out of mere reflex; as if his legs have come to believe that motion is their natural state.

"So, what's the plan?"
"I'm going to keep walking until we meet something."
"Huh. Great plan. That hasn't worked all month."
"Have faith, Karnas."
"I'd rather have something to DO."

The second; the continual stream of words. This is an argument that could outlast time itself... if one of the participants wasn't mortal, that is.

"Look, there's a tree. That makes... oh, 7 trees so far this year. I'd write that in my diary if I had arms, hands, a pen and a diary."
"Now you're just being sarcastic."
"And I haven't been up till now?!? Wake up and smell the ash and dust, boy-knight!"
"Shut up or you're at the bottom of the next lake we come across."
"Ha! According to the law of averages, we're not going to see many lakes, cavalier!"
"I'm not averse to a bit of digging, either. You'd better hope for that lake."

The words and the walk continue, into the distance.

***

Although Tancred the Cavalier and Karnas the Mage-Sword never come into this story, it is worthwhile to note that during this part of their long search for something to do, they came within 3 miles of the current position of Attalus, Galadria, TAO and Sir Blandamour.

What might have been, eh?

Attalus 03-10-2002 09:27 AM

Her voice overwrought with tension, she glances up at Azure, her face taut and unsmiling. The moody clouds sweep past her serious countenance, and her lips begin to tremble with suppressed intensity.

"Yes, we have met before... I suppose." ~ The tone betraying a state of daze and uncaring ~ "Lost; all is lost." ~ Desperately she tries to lift herself off the ground, succeeding partially in a weak stumble ~ "Thank you for drawing me back... I think." ~ Blinking once, she finds herself staring at the blurred image of the thief.

"I... I feel odd..." ~ Swaying on her feet, she staggers on blindly, her head pounding incessantly ~ "Help..." ~ Finally overcome by fatigue and the dark thoughts plaguing her mind, she utters a cry of despair before succumbing to the draw of sleep again, the last word on her lips barely audible.

"Raymond..."</font>

The eyes of the reborn cleric shine softly as she takes her maiden steps out of the temple once more ~ How long have I been here? ~ Noting the rustling in the trees ahead ~ I wonder where my friends have gone... ~ A dull ache forming in her heart ~ And what friends they've been, especially Galadria... I do hope she is well and happy. ~ The image of the pink-armoured paladin and righteous Blandamour flitting across her mind ~ May she always be with her loved one.

Slightly wincing at her own predicament, she nevertheless begins her journey to find her former companions...</font>

<font color=yellow>"As have you."</font> ~ Alain's dry reply silences the exaggerated amusement ~ <font color=yellow>"Say that you haven't, and the world will have yet another liar."</font> ~ His eyebrows arch in challenge ~ "Well? What have you to say to that?"</font>

Gritting his teeth, Dalben nods, his reluctance obvious ~ <font color=gold>"You speak the truth. I have yet to find out its powers, and that is what fascinates me. Quite unlike you..."</font> ~ Eyes accusingly at Alain ~ <font color=gold>"... who have decided from the start that it is the ultimate weapon against all enemies."</font>

<font color=yellow>"Elena's mother once spoke of how it granted her a force."</font> ~ The hiss turning ominous ~ <font color=yellow>"And we know how strong a lady that was... but stop delaying the obvious, Dalben!"</font> ~ Irritation creasing his face ~ <font color=yellow>"Hand it over now."</font>

For a moment, both men glare at each other, the only sound in the room that of the crackling fire. Finally, a genuine chuckle escapes Dalben's lips as he looks Alain in the eye.

<font color=gold>"It's no longer with me."</font>

<font color=yellow>"What?! Do you mean to say that all this talk has been for nothing?!"</font> ~ Fury rising from within his medium frame ~ <font color=yellow>"Where in the gods is it? Tell me now or I swear you'll regret it..."</font> ~ His voice silenced by Dalben's contemptuous glance.

<font color=gold>"It is where it should belong. Rightfully."</font>

<font color=yellow>"So the princess lives?"</font> ~ Alain's incredulous tone tinged with wonder ~ <font color=yellow>"Does she know how to use it? Where is she now?"</font></font>

<font color=indianred>Azure
Being the resourceful and caring type, Azure made quick preparations at a hasty campsite. She heated water and made a warm bath to bathe her newfound burdon. Then, tucking her away into a make-shift tent made from the foliage found lying around the forest floor, Azure had completed her task. She knew that the potion would sustain her at least a day and a night, that sufficient food might be found. Still, They were in the middle of a large forest, and Azure admittingly had lost herself in her blind wanderings, for she was still in grievance over Jaime. Paying attention to her surroundings had not been priority. Now, she had to think for two. And who was Raymond?</font>

Legolas 03-11-2002 07:47 AM

<font color="AAAACC">Rrang

He was dragging the doe to his lair near the monestary entrance. When he rounded the last corner, he suddenly sensed something was wrong. The ranger dropped the creature and started to wipe it's blood from his nose. Although the smell of the blood lingered for a while, he could smell other things. Smellsnice had been outside. And she hadn't come back in as far as he could tell (which was pretty far).
He hurried to his lair to retrieve the crude spear he'd wrought before he set out after his cub.

The scent got a bit stronger as time went by, but Rrang knew that it'd take him a number of days to catch up at the rate she was traveling. Even though she couldn't have had a lead of more than a few hours, her horse was a strong beast, no doubt well cared for by the clergi. It was just the type to head off at a fast pace, only to slow down later on as it got more and more tired.
He figured that if he kept moving throughout the night, it'd take two, maybe three days at most before he'd catch up with the girl. If there was trouble, probably less.
The Faeralan wished he knew where she was heading, so he could take shortcuts through the woods. He didn't thoguh, and couldn't. If he tried, he would risk falling even further behind.</font>

"'n if I got a copper from ye for each time ye've threatened someone's life I could buy them mountains from yer own self at twice the price. And be none the poorer fer it."

Surly took out the large axe and tested the sharpness of the blade on a thumb. Satisfied, the dwarf looked up at Durlan.

"That be an insult to me honour woody. How's 'bout we end this 'ere 'n now?"

"I'll be lettin' you 'ave the first blow."

"I will not grovel and beg for your mercy, Your Highness, if that is what you expect." ~ His quiet voice nevertheless ringing in the room ~ "I have done all that I could to find the princess, and failed. This is true." ~ Looking squarely into the king's eyes ~ "That does not mean that I did any wrong, for which I must apologise." ~ Heaven and Earth, Vane, why must you spout such moral statements? This must surely be the day you meet your maker...

He watches the anguish playing upon the youth's handsome features, a smirk forming on his own lips ~ Torn between damned pride and fear for his life. Haha!! ~ A muscle involuntarily twitching on the left of his face ~ This ought to be interesting...

Aloud ~ "So you consider you did nothing wrong, Vane." ~ His conversational tone well-mastered over the years ~ "You do have a point there..." ~ Noting the whiff of relief flit past the young man's face ~ "... but you know that I don't stand for failure of any sort." ~ Coughs exaggeratedly ~ "I would hardly wish my future son-in-law to be so... incompetent." ~ Fiendish delight filling his sadistic heart as he takes in Vane's tormented expression.</font>

Vane

Future son-in-law. ~ How wonderful that word sounded. Yet he had seen Eliza's flighty nature often enough ~ I bet she's never loved me. ~ The thought delivers a violent punch into his stomach, he feels himself losing it ~ Maybe she accepted me earlier only by default ~ Yet more depressing thoughts ~ Has she ever known true love as I did? ~ Flushing as he hears the sudden chuckle in the background.

<font color=white>Cedric

"I see that I've hit a raw spot, my dear fellow." ~ Immensely enjoying himself now ~ The fool... my dear Eliza was quite right never to have taken him seriously. ~ Indulgence wearing itself comfortably on his rugged face ~ "So you find yourself doubting your abilities and her estimation of your worth, do you not?" ~ The soothing tone most repugnant to the ears ~ "Don't worry, my lad. You'll get over it... I'll see to that." ~ Ah yes, I'll make sure of that...</font>

Vane

Sensing the half-insane emotion frothing from each pore of Cedric's body, he takes a deep breath ~ "My fate is in your hands." ~ I've been your bloody pawn all this while, haven't I? ~ Railing at himself inwardly ~ You moron! You thought you were different to him, but no... you are just like the rest... utterly dispensable. ~ Struggling to retain his composure ~ It won't be too long now, I suppose...

<font color=white>Cedric

"Thank you for making things easier for me, Vane." ~ His voice suddenly devoid of emotion, his eyes freezing into an icy blue ~ "Guards!" ~ The booming drawing his men into the room hastily ~ "Take him away and deal with him." ~ Turns away and strides off with remarkable energy, never looking back once.</font>

Vane

Deal with him. ~ How neutral it sounded. Yet he knew what it meant. How many times had he heard this phrase, so that it almost desensitised himself over time? And now it had been uttered at him. There was only one meaning to the dreaded line.

Only nodding his head in agreeance and feeling an overwhelming fear, yet relying on Isaura to save him, he turned his head, wadded the scarf up into a knot and placed it in his mouth. He clenched his fists tightly around it and began to sweat, not knowing how bad this was going to be. Suddenly, he felt a hard jerk and he thought his very soul had been stripped from him. No preparation could have prepared him for the feeling of the exit of that horrible weapon from his body. His screams were half drowned in the knotted scarf and his vision was blurred by the tears. Even over his own anguish, he could hear Isaura crying out in the awful knolwedge that she was doing this to him. He quickly calmed down and shook his head, trying to clear his vision. He took her trembling hand in his and nodded to her, trying to assure her that he was okay. He needed her to be strong now...and carry this terrible burdon. There was still one more arrow. He felt her take ahold of it, and he let go of her hand. This time, he did not turn his head, but stared right into her eyes. If he was to die, he wanted her to be the last beautiful thing around that he saw. Without warning, the arrow was jerked up and out, being thrown to the ground behind them. The sick ripping feeling that was caused was somehow worse than the first time, yet Raymond managed not to scream. He kept his eyes locked on Isaura and tried to remain awake, but sleep was quickly coming. His eyes were getting too heavy to hold up. He tried to rasie his hand, but could not feel it. He was slipping away.</font>

<font color=cream>Emptiness... the day is coming, I know... and for what purpose have I submitted to this fate? You, my love... do you know that?... Do you remember the days of our childhood?... Do you even care?!...</font>

Her lithe legs begin to shuffle in sleep; a frown appears on her rosebud-like lips ~ "V...Vane?" ~ A soft murmur, then silence. Involuntary jerks send her feet into fits of kicking.

<font color=cream>Do you see some light now, Eliza? It is the torch...yes, they are here now. Your men... they bear apologetic grins, but they will carry out orders. Your father's orders, perhaps your own too... your thoughts and feelings are quite alien to me these days. But no matter... I shall soon be free from your grasp. You deathly grip on my heart.</font>

Her breathing quickens, her body tossing and turning restlessly, a flash of panic crossing her ashen face.

<font color=cream>My feet drag against this soiled ground, in chains... what greater humiliation could I face?... Are you satisfied, Eliza?... The crowds jeer at me, yet the wounds they inflict on me mean nothing... not the grazes, the contemptuous and vulgar insults... it is you. You spurned me, and that itself deals death to my life.</font>

"No... Vane... I... this..." ~ Trapped by the demons of weariness, she continues to struggle yet remains tightly held. Cursing the forces withholding her from escape, beads of perspiration emerge from her temples, rolling down her drawn cheeks.

<font color=cream>All I wanted was to be with you, Eliza. My conscience is clear, despite your wounding accusations... I close my eyes... goodbye... uuggh!!!</font>

This time, the sheer horror of reality wrenches her from the tenacious clenches of slumber ~ "NOOO!!!!" ~ Her eyelids flutter open, her eyes dilating with terror. ~ It can't be... oh, please... ~ The sense of foreboding pervading every figre of her overwrought body, she stares into space in daze, suddenly shivering uncontrollably.</font>

Outwardly peace. She frowns a little, lines of wariness appearing on her forehead. ~ Such is my dilemna. ~ Sighing a little, she resumes on her unknown path, musing to herself ~ Where is Cedric anyway, even if I wish to seek him? ~ Kicking a stray pebble off the trail ~ I suppose I might as well be a little more forthcoming now that I've made up my mind to face him...</font>

"On the contrary." ~ He whispers, a creepy tone crawling into his voice ~ "This is no laughing matter, Dalben. It holds great power, we have witnessed it from Elena's mother's use of it. She would no doubt have been the greatest magic-user in this realm today if she had not been so gullible." ~ Shrugging his shoulders ~ "But what can we expect of women?" ~ His eyes narrow with irritation ~ "Yet we digress from the point." ~ Begins to pace about, his sharp eyes never leaving Dalben's face ~ "Will you take me to her?"</font>

The moment had come. The past flashes across his mind... the glorious old days of chivalry, comradeship and loyalty... a wise and well-loved king, with a beauteous arcane-inclined consort... terror and chaos... ~ No one can say I did not have my share of adventure. ~ With that, the protests in his heart are silenced ~ "She does not trust me anymore, Alain." ~ A woeful expression wears on his wrinkled face ~ "You must go to her yourself. <font color=yellow>Alain

"And what will you be doing in the meantime?" ~ His soft reply betrays little of the raging fire scorching his soul ~ I'll be damned if I let you go on your own ways like that... ~ Continuing to stare at Dalben unwaveringly ~ "Tackling more important business, I suppose..."</font>
