btw - the problem with Bittorrent is that it will help with fast distribution only when there are enough seeders - which won't be a problem in the first few days or perhaps weeks, but it's not really all that useful later on. It would work as a IRC-alternative right now, but it's not really a good long-term-solution for distribution, I'm afraid.

I think these files *are* corrupt after all.

Could someone post the exact filesizes for them as reported by DOS?

Grammar 06-10-2003 10:07 PM

Halp!

When I run install.bat, it finishes that, then auto-moves on to BGT Installer, which then promply goes BAM and displays a message displaying

(Title at top) prjFormExtract
(Text) Run-time error '9':
Subscript out of range.

Could someone perhaps post a step-by-step how to install? It seems I am a moron :(

Running WinXP/Full Install of SoA/ToB Patched/no mods

Edit: The problem was that when I wiped the directory to try again, I forgot to re-unzip the rar.

RoSs_bg2_rox 06-11-2003 05:38 AM

so has anyone actually succesfully played this yet? Also what disk do u have to use when playing?

Raistlin Majere 06-11-2003 12:48 PM

bgt_distro.c03 is up for download on the ftp-server!!! no more trying to learn mIRC...

Grammar 06-11-2003 12:56 PM

Steps for a successful installation:
This is assuming you have:
SoA Installed
ToB Installed
Latest ToB Patch Installed (See the FAQ)

1) Download file(s) from Bardez on irc.teambg.net (bgt distro.c03) and either download the other files (distro.c00, distro.c01, distro.c02, distro.ace) from the ftp (Link) or also get them from Bardez. (IRC tutorial at bottom of post)
2) Get bgt_istaller_patch_2.1 (Most current version as I write this) from IRC.
3) Extract the files from distro.ace in BG2 Directory (Standard: "C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA") winrar
4) Unzip the files from bgt_installer_patch_2.1 WinZip
5) Move unzipped files from bgt_installer_patch_2.1 into BG2 Directory.
6) Run installa.bat (Graphic is exe style, may take a lot of time)
7) When finished, run BGT Installer.exe (Note: This has no interface at all. It works entirely in the background. You may check if it is still working by using task manager. Even if it says "Not Responding", it is still working away)
8) When finished, run installb.bat (Much less time consuming than installa.bat)
9) Download the latest patch (As I write this, that is patch_1.1.zip)
10) Move Dialog.TLK from unzipped\patch_1.1 (or whatever the directory you unzipped to is called) to BGII Main Directory
11) Move all other files in unzipped\patch_1.1 (except the readme, that one's optional =) into BGII - SoA\Override
12) Copy the trilogy-src music into the music folder of BGII - SoA
13) Run XP Patcher (Included in Distro.ace) and find BGMain.exe. Then, set the starting XP at 0.
14) Have fun!!

If any of these instructions were unclear, or just plain wrong, let me know, and I'll be glad to change them. I decided to make this post since I had a lot of trouble last night figuring out how to do this
Edit: I forgot the IRC Tutorial, oops. Also, the FTP apparently have .c03 now

1) Download mIRC
2) Go up to connect. Server: irc.teambg.net Names are up to you
3) Go to channel #BGT
4) Type !BGT or !BGT3 in the channel
5) Go up to DCC Options, turn off the autoignore (DCC Options is near the top of the screen in the middle)
6) Type dir
7) Type "get name", (You must insert the bgt part at the start)
8) Select destination of the file
9) Wait ages

Yup, the ftp's owner tried to upload distro.c03, but it got rejected, several times even. So false alarm, for now.

RoSs_bg2_rox 06-11-2003 03:10 PM

how much of them have u downloaded now andreas?

Grammar 06-11-2003 05:15 PM

Let me revise the IRC thing maybe...
1) Open mIRC
2) File-->Options
3) Add
4) Give it a name, etc. etc.
5) Unless your firewall is interfering with it, port 6667 should work fine.
6) The IRC Server is: irc.teambg.net
7) Note: Your full name etc. does not need to be real, just put in a witty one liner if you like
8) Pick a nickname
9) Hit Connect to IRC Server
10) Now, it will go through a bunch of text coming up. Ignore this.
11) Something called "mIRC Channels Folder" will pop up
12) Type in "#BGT" (without the quotes)
13) Hit enter
14) Look towards the top of the screen. One of the buttons, which has DCC written at the top of it and a circle with a dot in it and a line facing to the right, is called DCC Options (mouse over to make sure you have the right one)
15) Click on it, then click on Folders
16) There is an option there, DCC Ignore. Disable this.
17) Back in the chat room after hitting ok, type "!BGT" or "!BGT3" (without the quotes, again)
18) Depending upon which one you did, either Bardez or Chris will ask to open a private message with you
19) Accept this
20) Type "dir" (always without the quotes...)
21) Type "get bgt distro.ace" (or whichever file you are after)
22) Select where you want to download the file to (you can set a default in the DCC Folders Options menu which you used earlier.
23) And wait...

Note: If your download gets interrupted, repeat the downloading steps (i.e. 17-21). Instead of hitting overwrite, however, just hit resume and your download will continue from where you got disconnected.
Note 2(!): I just started using mIRC yesterday to get the files, so I'm not exactly a master of it... I only really figured out how to use it to get the distro.c03

Edit: "get" is the command which downloads, "dir" lists the contents of the directory (i.e. which files the person has available for download). Don't bother downloading the worldmap.

u finished yet andrewas? pm me if u want my address for sendin

Raistlin Majere 06-12-2003 10:32 AM

ive got 2 questions:

1) is there no way to resume on mIRC?

2) do i need patch 1.1 and 1.2? i just noticed that 1.1 is much bigger than 1.2...

id also like to thank grammar for being patient with me. thanks man

andrewas 06-12-2003 11:02 AM

1) That was my concern as well, but if you use the get command on a file you already have part of, it will open a dialogue and ask you whether to overwrite the existing file or resume the download.

2) Im not sure. Teambg.net is down for me at the moment. Normaly patch 1.2 would be all you need, but I dont know how Bardez is organising it. Download patch 1.2 and see if theres a readme in there. If so it should tell you what to do. Or ask someone in channel #bgt , one of them will probably know. If they arent all AFK that is.

McHaggis 06-12-2003 11:47 AM

Keep your eye on TeamBG forums, Kangaxx (not THE Kangaxx ) will post the address of the new FTP-server, which includes bgt_distro.c01 and patch 1.1. I know it but I'm not allowed to tell it before he can post it there. Ask about it on IRC, he might tell you.

So cheers.

Grammar 06-12-2003 12:15 PM

Quote:

Just restart the download exactly the same, in the same spot, same file name. It will tell you that a file already exists and ask you if you wish Overwrite it, Resume (This is the one you want), Or Cancel.

Teambg sites seem rather erratic lately :(

Since I am waiting for the stuff to copy over, just wanted to brainstorm on which classes/kits would be harder or easier to play in BG1:

Fighter:
</font>
 • Berserker: Would be stronger than a regular warrior. The lack of specialization in ranged weapons wouldn't hurt much, and rage would be a major boost in the big battles.</font>
 • Kensai: Would be tough to play. Don't get much bonus to hit and damage yet, and no armor would hurt some, especially in early to mid game. Only throwing axes and daggers hurts some.</font>
 • Wizard Slayer: Another tough one. Not much magic resistance yet, and not able to use some of the magic items that could really help in some situations.</font>
Ranger:
</font>
 • Archer: Solid. No specialization in melee hurts some, but otherwise not too bad (no metal armor doesn't hurt too bad yet)</font>
 • Stalker: Weak, since can't backstab too well yet. Better off playing a thief or fighter/thief</font>
 • Beast Master: Would actually be worth playing at this point. Summoning animals would be strong at this point, but countered by no metal weapons. By the time you get to SoA, that would change, though.</font>
Paladin:
</font>
 • Cavalier: Only thrown axes and daggers would hurt some, and bonuses against demons and dragons wouldn't help much, but their other abilities would help immensely. Solid.</font>
 • Inquisitor: True sight and strong dispel magic right from first level? No annoying mirror image or invisibility on those tough magic using bounty hunters? Very nice.</font>
 • Undead Hunter: Another solid choice. Level drain resistance won't come into play too much, but immunity to hold is a life-saver. +3 v.s. Undead is strong in some places, too.</font>
Barbarian: Great choice! No plate mail hurts a little, but otherwise all of their abilites are great.

Clerics:
</font>
 • Specialty Priest of Talos: Both of their bonus spells help, and with no downside v.s. regular cleric, why would you play a no-kit evil cleric (single-class)?</font>
 • Specialty Priest of Helm: Just as good if not better than the Specialty Priest of Talos. Both spells help immensely.</font>
 • Specialty Priest of Lathander: Their spells are not as useful as the other two kits, but considering that they are just as good as a regular cleric otherwise, why not?</font>
Druid:
</font>
 • Totemic Druid: Lose shapeshifting ability, but those awesome summons more than make up for it. Solid.</font>
 • Shapeshifter (talking non-modded only): No armor hurts, but the werewolf form would help a lot, in the early going especially.</font>
 • Avenger: Penalty to strength and constitution always hurt, but the extra forms would be especially useful in BG1.</font>
Monk: Ouch. They are already weak at the beginning of BG2. But starting one at first level? Good challenge, and all that more satisfying when you get to ToB, knowing what you went through to get there.

Thief:
</font>
 • Assassin: The penalty to thieving abilities hurts bad, but the combat bonuses and poisoning helps offset that. Still, a tad bit weak for the loss in thieving skills.</font>
 • Bounty Hunter: Extra trap setting right from the beginning and bonus traps help. A little loss in thieving skills is not too bad. Pretty solid choice.</font>
 • Swashbuckler: No backstab hurts (especially since you can backstab many opponents you run into), but the extra ability in combat makes up for it. Another solid choice.</font>
Bard:
</font>
 • Blade: The spins would just rock at earlier levels, and the losses they take would not hurt too much (except for lore reduction).</font>
 • Jester: Considering how more likely you are to have opponents fail saves, they would be pretty darn good in BG1, casting the equivalent of a level 4 spell right from first level.</font>
 • Skald: No pickpocketing is not too much of a problem, and their bonuses in combat and better song would make them rock.</font>
Mages: Only really need to discuss the Wild Mage, as the others are the same. I would be terrified of playing one, as there is pretty much a 5% chance of getting blown to dust every time you cast a spell!

Sorcerer: Still very powerful, as they get more castings right from first level (always a weakness at lower levels for a mage), and the restrictions on spells known is not too terrible a price.

What do you think?

RoSs_bg2_rox 06-13-2003 06:53 AM

I haven't even been able to get it started in the first place... I'll give it another shot next week, when I'm going to try to use the T3-connection at the University to my advantage. Let's hope it'll have any effect. ;)

I have all the files now, or at least I think I do... Er, well, if we are precise, some of the files are still on my friend's computer but I'll get them tomorrow. So let's sum it up. I need following files:

bgt distro.ace
bgt distro.c00
bgt distro.c01
bgt distro.c02
bgt distro.c03
Installer patch 2.1
Patch 1.1
Patch 1.2

Am I correct or am I still missing something?

andrewas 06-13-2003 01:46 PM

Thats the complete list AFAIK.

Have you heard anything about the FTP being down? I cant get anything out of it. I left this machine running for hours, and when I get back its only gotten 500K more than when I left.

Grammar 06-13-2003 01:52 PM

I had some trouble with the FTP myself. Basically what happened was I started downloading all the files, and they had about 4 hours to go when I started. Then, suddenly, they all just stopped downloading (i.e. from 15 kbs (around 3 hours left when they stopped) to like 38 DAYS left in the dl). I stopped the download, restarted it the next day, it worked fine. If you are really having trouble with the FTP, you may just wish to get them off IRC (Slower, but on the other hand easier to resume and Bardez's fserver is nice

Edit: I also had a bit of trouble with IRC - Interestingly enough with the patch. Essentially what happened was that it kept getting cut off, and I kept resuming it. It's easy enough to resume on IRC.... Just play a different game for a while (or even Classic SoA/ToB I suppose) and check every 10 minutes or so ;)

Theoreticaly weiDU (so not things like TDD) mods should be OK. Practicaly, I cant see any reason why not. But I wouldn't bet on it. Try it and see if it works.

I am not sure what BGIII will be like because the new publisher is VIVENDI UNIVERSAL GAMES.

I am using Ease-Of-Use shut up "You must gather your party before venturing forth" because it is very annoying. Apart from that Mods SHOULD be compatible EXCEPT when one feature is modified by different mods. (e.g. say BGI mod modifies x creature and tactics modifies x creature - there'll be a compatibility issue). Before you do anything like that, backup dialog.tlk and override (I know WeiDU is supposed to be able to delete any files it adds, but it can't hurt to be safe :). It might be advisable to wait to install Tactics until you have reached Irenicus' Dungeon (Assuming you aren't planning on doing Improved Ilyich). I think I heard Ascension is included in the mod, but I'm still in BGI area so I'm not sure.

What mods were/are you planning to install?

I believe they've had that particular warning up for almost a year... But we'll hear sooner or later through official channels about BGIII if there's really going to be one. Don't expect too much, though. ;)

Any mod affecting dialog.tlk is an absolute nono, IIRC.

Grammar 06-13-2003 05:53 PM

Mods that replace dialog.tlk are a nono. However, mods that merely append it (such as WeiDU mods) may or may not be ok. They are ok as long as they do not try to modify something which is modified by any other mods. Just look very carefully into the features. I recommend playing through the BGI first to try to figure out what you can and can't modify

If all else fails, just make a backup and try it with the mod. If it screws up, it's not compatible
