What's the point of having it in the first place? Someone spell it out for me, please.
|
It was originally made so people wouldn't use as much oil in their lanterns... but there isn't any real point I can see anymore.
|
Instead of oil in their lanterns, it saves money now.
|
How, though? An extra hour of daylight in the evening saves money?
|
If it is "day" longer people are more likely to be up and use less electricity/caged hamsters/etc to power their homes, it was implemented largely in WW2 as part of the rationing of resources for the war, and it still serves that purpose to some degree.

Finally, someone came out and said it! THANK YOU Morgeruat! It really does work like that. People use less electric lighting that way, as the actual night corresponds more closely with the time they MUST sleep because of their schedules.
Besides cutting back on lighting bills, I really can't come up with much, but remember, everything is multiplied by about 296 million here. |

I almost forgot about this until I read an e-mail from school that was warning everybody to be ready. Microsoft and Apple are releasing patches to their system clocks so as to take into effect the change. It is available as an AutoUpdate or on their websites where you can do it manually. |
That must have been the patch I got this morning.
I don't know from anybody else, but I never go to bed at dark in the winter. Sometimes I wouldn't have been home from work yet. So any energy I don't use in the summer, I'll make up for in the winter, afterall, 10PM is 10PM, whether it's January, or August, at least on the clock. |

Crap. I just realized when reading this article that the DST Bug will hit us because our alarm clock has an automatic setting to the proper time. That means that we will have to manually set the clock an hour ahead in March but then the auto feature will make it go an hour ahead again in April and we'll have to wind it back late at night (what is it, 2am???) or the clock alarm will go off at the wrong time. Time to buy a new clock... |
Nah, just set yourself a reminder on your online calendar to send you an email when you're supposed to change it, and change it when you go to bed.
