Oooh, awesome. Thanks!

I've been wondering... why is Firefox so much faster than IE?

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 03-28-2005 06:58 PM

I just noticed another icon at the top of my Window for another upgrade. ..do I dare?

LennonCook 03-28-2005 08:29 PM

<span style="color: lightblue">No, don't dare: download it from mozilla.org instead... the updater apparently isn't working properly yet. So, download binary, uninstall all the versions of Firefox you happen to have listed in Add/Remove Programs, and install 1.0.2 . It contains more security fixes - I think the main one is an obscure problem with the legacy GIF handling code.

Will I lose all my bookmarks and settings by removing everything?

LennonCook 03-28-2005 10:45 PM

<span style="color: lightblue">No. They're stored in C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\(randomletters).default , and currently the uninstaller doesn't touch them, or even mention them.

I have not installed the new version. Still stuck with the old version... Mixed reviews and such really puts me off as of the moment

ah.. ah..'m.. s so scared r right now..

<span style="color: lightblue">Ok, I've got tired, and off my but, and looked at the release notes. Three security issues addressed, two of them allowing arbitrary code execution...
If you use Firefox for it's security, I realy recommend you keep on top of these updates - things are being fixed constantly, regardless of what the reviews say. As with 1.0.1, this changes nothing that could conveiably slow the browser, or debstabalise it - three patches, one adds security checks to the sidebar that were already in the main browser window, one adds similar checks to drag-and-drop, and one removes all traces of a legacy extension to the GIF standard (which, if anything, should speed up firefox, and improve stability). Ignore the bad press...

I upgraded to 1.0.2 without removing and reinstalling everything, and it seems to be working just fine. I may not do that for the next upgrade, but we'll see...

Thanks Lennon. I'm upgrading it now.
