I'm completely amazed everyone's had such great experiences with Windows XP, to be honest, and especially surprised to hear that your computer boots so quickly, Realbinky. Mine takes between five and six minutes. Isn't that just so wrong?

wow... that's insane...
mine boots up in... after logging in? less than 20... Win XP pro and I have lots of stuff installed but no spyware and stuff like that... i also keep defragmenting it and stuff... and yes, if it boots that long, it's gotta be memory ;) |
From the time I push the button til the time I can open a program it is less than 50 seconds. And has been on any XP machine I've used so far.
|
I clocked my old 98 machine, and it took over two minutes to boot up. Even after lots of tweaking, the fastest I ever managed to get it was 90 seconds or so. Both my XP desktop and laptop are ready to go, like Timber's, in less than 50 seconds.
Even cooler, you can go to standby or hibernation and "boot back" in less than 10 seconds, and XP is stable enough to use both features for extended periods of time without hosing up the system. :D |
yup that's right... but...
I lost my hibernate option... i wonder why... i forgot the reason... but can anybody refresh my memory? |
I'm thinking of upgrading the memory to 1024mb (1gb). Will this greatly increase the overal performance?

Me 2 thinks that windows XP is great, although I use the PRO version and not home. WinXP needs occassional re-installing though, for it looses its speed, but then again maybe thats just because I stuff my PC full with software. </font> |
Upgrade the RAM not the hard memory. Optimum for XP is 500mb of ram. Smooth sailing, trust me I have 1gb RAM :D .
