Great thread everyone!

Hey, wasnt there a thread similar to this started by Slackerboy right after 9/11 ? </font>

Welcome IR.

And yeah, I think that Slackerboy did start something similar, not sure though. Guess I'll have to go take a look at the archives. If I find it, I'll post a link. ;)

Cerek: Great song! I'd love to hear it put to music.

Back to the songs that inspire. I finally got my puter up and running, and, amongst all the crap that was clogging up my HDD, I found some MP3's that I had gotten off a local radio station back after 9/11. One of the things that they had put up for people was a copy of Amazing Grace, overdubbed with news reports about the towers. That one really hit me. Amazing Grace is one of those 'grab you by the guts and squeeze' sort of songs anyway, and that just made it all the more...well...amazing. For those that dont know the lyrics, here they are:

PS: One of the most beautiful things that I've ever(bar none) heard was a live rendition of Amazing Grace done by a single bagpipe. It was by a Scottish friend of mine, at an SCA event. There is just something about the bagpipe that makes the melody so incredibly haunting. If you can find the song done to a bag pipe(check most any good Celtic music anthology...you're bound find a copy of Amazing Grace *somewhere*...try the Braveheart soundtrack/score), I highly recommend listening...of course, you might want to have a tissue or two handy when you do. :D

EDIT: The second most wonderful version...Elvis'!! Bow to The King baby!!!

AMAZING GRACE:

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here a thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

Well, Amazing Grace, all by itself is a pretty inspirational song for me. We sing it in church on occasion and it has alot of meaning for me.

Wow...this thread took off, I see! :D
