I think we should build a Great star ship or a giant ring around the Earths Atmosphere to destroy Meteors or other visitors from outer space

HUmanity will never unite till forced.

Independence Day in other words. Maybe after we blow the alien mothership to pieces we can build a truly civilised society where every nation on earth shares in technology and resources equally. Doubt it though.

Personally I agree with what Vernor Vinge has been saying. That we are headed for a technological singularity and that unless we exterminate ourselves in the next 30 some odd years things are going to change so profoundly that we have no way of projecting what will happen after the 'singularity'. Here is an article he wrote about 10 years ago talking about this:
The Coming Technological Singularity

Maybe for a short while, but humans will always be humans. Lust for power, money, and all these other things will eventually take the upperhand again

Here is an interesting article I came across that ties in with the Vinge paper:

It looks like a 'bionic eye' is not too far off in the future. Pretty soon everyone may be sporting borg-like super eyes, lol.

I think...ah well, it doesnt matter what *I* think; read "Revalations" in the Bible. That predicts a lota stuff.

Maybe with hindsight it does, but Ive never seen an actual prediction made with the "Bible Code" or any other interpretation of any religious text. Ever.

Theres only one thing that will force humanity to unite in the long term, and that would be conflict with something from outside. Possibly, after such a conflict, humanity would end up as one "nation" among others, but thats only moving the problem up a notch. The only thing that could unite this galactic society would be a conflict with something outside that.

Thus it has been since the days of warring villages millenia ago. Thus it always will be.

And I am well aware that the chances of interstellar conflict of any level is well below any chance you care to name.

In the year 2100 or even 2200, nothing will have changed much. I mean what has really changed since 1900 and 2000? But what has changed since the late 1800s and 1900s? So I think by the time 2700-3000 rolls around, we'll start seeing big changes..
